New photos of Mars during the Bush Presidency reveal little atmosphere, inhospitable environment. Women and children affected most.

"Where's the American flag our astronauts put there a few years back?" (Didn't Sheila Jackson Lee ask that question?)

On a side note, my wife, who isn't the space enthusiast I am, walked in, took one look at the mars picture and declared that they managed to land in the most boring spot on the whole planet.

I'll bet she's already making plans to add some hydrangeas and maybe a little creeping violet over by the crater...:O)

I don't know why but every picture of Mars is just strewn with rocks and covered so uniformly that there must have been something unbelievably huge crashing into it at some point.

It just looks like the dust (and rocks) settled evenly over the whole surface.

Actually, I think someone once pointed out that Earth would look much the same if it didn't have water (thus no rains, rivers or oceans to reduce the rocks to pebbles, sand, et cetera).

Rocks are on top of dust. If you have a jar of pebbles and sand and shake it a little, the rocks kind of move to the top and the sand settles. Maybe there was or is some kind of shaking there so the rocks moved to the top. The rocks are smoothed, which might be nothing more than sand-blasting for a few million years. Or it could be water action, but water wasn't flowing very long. Like it rained once and that was it.
