Town Refuses to Ask Citizens If Library Porn Should Be Filtered Out; Plan2Succeed.org Seeking Pro Bono Counsel.

Something is wrong when a small group of people called a Library Board of Trustees determines that a public library must continue to allow access to pornography despite admittedly being outside the library's mission, the Township Committee claims it is powerless to stop the Board, and the citizens have no say.

The problem is you seem to believe the library should be absolutely blameless in what it makes available to its patrons, regardless of age.

That is absolutely unacceptable.

If your youngest is not at least 18 years of age, s/he is still a minor who should not be looking at adult or obscene material. Period.

Are you over 18? If so, when you were younger did you ever look at adult or obscene material?

If not, do you ever look at adult or obscene material?

Be honest, now.

Honestly? It is none of your damn business how old I am and what I choose to do in my spare time. This is not about me. And I refuse to have this topic turned into me. If you have nothing more to say that is not on topic then I suggest you move along.

You had no problem with trying to make it about me.

But you are correct - it's time for me to move along. You obviously want bigger government - "for the children" of course - and I'm tired of watching your contortions toward that end.

How much spare time do you have? ;-)

Because I'm surprised someone with your track record around here would be supportive of letting kids acess porn at their library. No wonder the liberals' attacks on the family and our culture have made so much ground.

In today's society , if the child in question is older than 12, chances are better than 75% that the "child" is no longer "innocent" in the classic sense of the word, and has almost certainly seen pornography before - even the "good" kids.

But you're correct: using the Lefts' own tactics against them DOES have a certain appeal. :)

I don't agree with all this suing, but it doesn't count if done against the perpetrators ;)

I think in general children should be accompanied by parents who are monitoring their behavior in any public place, including a library.

I think grownups should view their pornography at home or in some private location.

The library is a public square -- ya don't have the unalienable right to do anything there.

One of us actually quit teaching in a school that had inadequate filters because the youngsters were accessing porn and he did not want to be involved in that, and efforts to improve the filters went unheeded.

Oh cool man. Public education allowing our kids to see porn.

Sheesh!

I will tell you that when they were small I didn't leave them in public places (including the library) unattended. I had them; they were my responsibility, not someone else's. If you want to believe, as Hillary does, that the "village" is responsible for raising your children, fine. I never believed that, and I don't now.

It's a two way PUBLIC street.

Parents should watch their kids in public places AND public places should not be used for porn.

Hillary and her stinking village believes -- neither!

Maybe I misunderstood the problem. Is the problem that people are afraid children will access porn at the library, or is the problem that adults are currently accessing porn at the library?

The problem is children accessing porn and the problem is adults who don't want to see porn, but for various reasons they would be subject to the porn viewing of others.

So you are saying that children currently ARE accessing porn at this library?

You're saying that adults ARE NOT accessing porn now, but if they did, others who didn't want to see it would?

Eno_: You said, "I don't use porn filters at home, and I trust my kids not to surf porn at the library. Scanning the logs and reprimanding kids that violate library policy should be enough"

Scary. Even perfectly innocent children can accidently get a porn site and may become permanently scarred by what they see, or some spyware software pops up pornographic windows even where your kids are blameless. A few weeks ago a man was arrested or convicted of having thousands of misspelled sites like dinsey.com just to lure kids to porn. Please see our Links page on http://www.plan2succeed.org/ to learn more about this. We ask questions and provide links to answers you may find useful. We are not asking you to agree with us, just to take a look to see if you can find something that helps you vis-a-vis your own children. And thank you for posting to this thread. Please continue to do so.

Okay. Well, I'll go read the whole thread, and hopefully find where you've elaborated. Cheers, By
