If not Bush, then who?
12-28-2003 | agitate

Posted on 12/28/2003 11:26:16 AM PST by Agitate

I've noticed several threads where people say they will not vote for Bush if he supports certain causes. Some include:

Memogate:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1045476/posts

Broad Amnesty in immigration:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1046165/posts

(Please don't see this as an attack on those threads or any comments in them, it's not.)

While I agree with the conservative position on both of these threads, I don't understand how a person could not vote for Bush even if he does some things that are inexplicable from a conservative point of view.

My belief is nothing could be worse than a democrat in office in 2004. I know that is the lesser of two evils vote, but it is true.

Even if Bush gave amnesty to immigrants to pander to hispanics, which would be disgusting, is that reason enough to allow a democrat a greater chance to get in office? Wouldn't the dems likely do worse?

Like I'm supposed to care! You may have some sort of weird grade-school-type hangup about being in the wrong clique, but I certainly don't. I'd be happy if the Democrats adopted the platform of the Constitution Party.

If there was a psychotic axe-wielding maniac running around in your house, I don't think you'd hesitate to call your local police even if you did think there was some corruption going on in the department. Or would you?

Only to come get the body. Get real, the Pubs want us disarmed and helpless as much as the Rats. Remember, it was a PUB who gave us CFR, USA-PATRIOT, et al. So he was just stealing the Rat's thunder, you say? WHY? Let the RATS sink or swim on their own merits. They have nothing worth stealing. No, that excuse won't wash. Bush is naught but a big spending liberal, like it or not. He threw one sop to conservatives that I can think of... ONE... the PBA "ban" which might get overturned in court the way a lot of you thought (hoped) (dreamt) CFR would. Please show some respect for others' intelligence. We can read and comprehend. We also have something worth far more than some party hack can fathom: PRINCIPLES AND VALUES. Bush appears to have none. He panders to the Left on virtually EVERY ISSUE. He has YET to see a bill pass Congress that he doesn't like, though there have been stinkeroos aplenty. Now, please tell us just what differentiates this man from some of the Rat candidates... except perhaps the RATE OF ACCELERATION toward the abyss. There is ZERO change in actual direction.

Have you ever considered why the media is a laging indicator?

We know the media was right wing in the thirties, forties and most of the 50s. The media has been leftist from 1960 unitil now.

WHY?

For most of the first 30 years of the last century the Republicans were in control of the presidency, the house and the senate. If you were a reporter and wanted the news first, you had best have a good relalionship with the Republidna leadership. Most reporters did.

But when Roosevelt came to power in 1933, the media was still on the right. They fought and opposed the Democrats until nearly 1960. But from 1932 until 1960 it was the new minor reporters that got the scoups from the Democrats. A young Walter Cronite and Andy Rooney did get more news out of FDR and his party than did Conservative star anchor H.V. Kaltenborn. Slowly the media moved to the left. And by 1980 it was hard to the left. But with Republicans taking the house in 1994 and keeping it, by taking back the senate and then the presidency, the leftist media is in a bind. Bush, Hastert, and Frist are feeding stories to Fox and holding back on CNN. If the Republicans keep the senate, house and presidency until 2012, the media will shift again with a new generation of reporters. It will be the right wing reporters who get the news. Soon the new media stars will be right wing stars.

The media is driven by public opinion as is the supreme court. But since both the media and the supreme court are not term limited or elected they are a lagging indicatorn. It takes as long as twenty years for them to reflect public opinion.

Why do you think Chris Wallace changed from ABC to Fox? Chris wants to be on the wining team, and changing from left to right is small price to pay to be on the winning team.

The media is influenced over time by who has power not who wants power.

You are so right.

We need to give this country back to the Democrats. If we do, they'll give us;

National health care (socialized medicine)

Gay Marriage

They'll abolish our military and turn our protection over to the U.N.

They'll force industry to comply with the strictest environmentalist demands.

All government agencies will double in size, (except intelligence agencies, because the U.N. will make them unecessary)

Oh! Almost forgot! we have to pay for all of those new spending increases! I'm sure we would all gladly surrender more of what we earn for the benefit of the "LESS FORTUNATE". HIGHER TAXES...

Just think, I only covered a few on the list of what the Democrats will give us! (Almost forgot about GUN CONTROL, how silly of me!) But it will sure be worth it!

Won't it? {/sarcasm}

"The media is driven by public opinion as is the supreme court."

Reading that was like getting a tall drink of iced water after a day out in the Miami sun.

I've been beat up in this forum for suggesting that the SCOTUS does not lead anyone in any particular way, but simply acknowledges the direction we've already taken as a society.

That's because there is NO answer!

The Constitution Party is smaller than the LP, whose " hold " over the GOP is zilch! I believe that the CP could hold their convention in a tiny coffee shop and have room left over. Outside of those on FR, 99.9% of the American populace wouldn't know who Phillips is and does not know that there is such a thing as the CP.

And, Luis, what good would it do, for a CP candidate to even be elected to either House of Congress ?He/she would have ZERO clout, ZERO say, and would just be some marginal nothing, who, more than likely, would vote with/help the Dems, just like Ron Paul, the RINO extraordinary.

These third party boosters want a benevolent despot, who would declare whatever it is that they claim they want...NOT a president. No president could ever fulfill their varied and different desires.

Yes, you're supposed to CARE, when what you say is corrected and makes your original argument totally wrong. But since you don't care about being proved to haved been dead wrong,I don't care much either.

Now, as to your inane schoolyard remark ...

If it doesn't matter, to you, which of the major parties takes up the cudgel and goes to bat for something you want, but otherwise does all manner of things that you don't want, to the extent that you get 3% of the things you claim to want, but 97% of things absolutely destructive to your needs and wishes, you've gained far less than you've given away. Ain't that grand ? LOL

The Dems won't adopt the CP's platform and you know it;or should. That's one of THE most absurd remarks, I've ever seen on FR and I've seen some pips. But let's play this game. The DNC adopts most, if not all of the CP's platform, you vote for ALL of the Dem candidates, then the Dems do what they damn please. You've gained nothing you wanted.

Eight horrible, long years of the Clintons have taught you and your ilk less than nothing. Being on FR has taught you even less.Pity that.

I think you might have mean to post that to me, not to nopardons.

Anyway, I'm having trouble reconciling your statement that "The media is driven by public opinion as is the supreme court" with your earlier statement that "The way people vote does not influence the media."

I'm mostly in agreement with you, though I have a few nits to pick. LOL

The N.Y. Times wasn't Anything other than a virulent left wing newspaper in the '30s through the present day. I have a few other examples, but basically, you're correct and spot on, as usual.

If, for some reason, Bush suddenly could not run in '04 (say sudden stroke or illness), who would be your choice then, and why?

Jeb Bush. He is more conservative than W, also has a good heart, nerves of steel, a functional spine, and loves the ofunding principles of the US.

You haven't corrected me at all. I stated that they brought up an issue that touched a nerve with the people, and then one of the two parties took the ball and ran with it. You made some irrelevant point about the name of the party that did it, and pretended that you accomplished something. The only thing you accomplished is to prove that your powers of logic are extremely lacking. Hence, there's really no need to bother with you at all.

Didn't you just get through telling us that this was going to be a "Red Tide" election? Now your stomach's all in a knot over the prospect of a Democrat victory? Which is it?

To quote a damned Dem president, whom the revisionists would have us now believe was a " good guy ", when he was NOT..." I GIVE THEM THE FACTS, THEY JUST THINK IT'S HELL ". LOL

Of course they don't make any sense;they have none. If they were REALLY Conservatives and if they REALLY knew anything about politics,at all, they wouldn't be making these incredibly ill advised decisions and silly posts.

The ONLY time they were " happy ", was when the Clintons were in office and all the rest of us were as miserable about that, as they were. They enjoy being miserable. These UNAPPEASEABLES would far and away rather die of thirst, than drink some lemonade, when all they really want is grape juice.
