‘Al Qaeda vows back-breaking strike’

A London-based Arab magazine said on Friday that Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has vowed to launch a back-breaking attack on the US by February, confirming an earlier message by the militant network. The weekly al-Majalla said it received an e-mail from Abu Mohammed al-Ablaj, a little known Al Qaeda member, saying bin Laden would release a video tape in which he affirms his groups determination to fight the US.
A messenger of bin Laden informed him (Ablaj) that the Al Qaeda leader will appear on a televised tape after the execution of an operation which bin Laden described as back-breaking and which would change the order of things, al-Majalla said in a report in its latest edition.
They (Americans) should prepare...their coffins, hospitals and graves. The coming days will be full of surprises and great events which will make them a historic example, the magazine quoted Ablaj as saying. The report came after US officials ordered their colour-coded alert system raised to orange, the second highest level, citing possible year-end attacks.

"Al Qaeda vows 'backbreaking strike'"
What? AQ plans to emulate its Euro-lefty supporters and go out on strike?
What are their demands? Higher wages? Seems unlikely.
Shorter hours? Hmmm, they aren't doing much as it is.
I've got it: survivor's benefits. Saddam's departure has led to reduced income among the families of suicide-bombers so they're trying to make up the loss.

I understand your point and may say the same thing if America was attacked in such a manner, but one thing I can't shake...bin Laden IMHO does not give a damn about Mecca. He cares only for power and dominance.
Do you think that if we could send a representative to OBL, and tell him that if he attacks again we will destroy Mecca, that OBL would not attack us again? I don't think so, and if I'm correct, nuking Mecca is not a deterrence.
This is a war and I've advocated in previous posts that if we ever found OBL, we should cut is head off, stick it on a stake, and put in the ground at the WTC with a sign that says, "This is what happens when people F*** with the United States of America."
Not easy answers in troubled times. Stay safe my friend.

It must very humilating for those Arabs to have their dire predictions fail time after time after time. Will they ever learn that they could save face by just shutting up?

1 Nuke + 1 Mecca @ peak visitation = Impact statement. That's how ya play the game! Actually, I'm in favor of a very dirty bomb air bursting over Mecca. Let them see their moon god's rock but not get close to it for a few thousand years. We could get really sneaky and have this dirty bomb launched on a rickety ICBM from N. Korea (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) at our troops in Iraq but it just happens to veer off-course. Such a pity...

That is called Taqqya. But from him, he believes the denial and deception. He is not a generator of it, only a follower.

I think that OBL is committed to Islam, and his version of Islam is supported by the text. I think he is also a megalomaniac that has grand political goals, but I think they flow from his religious views. Nothing he has ever done has shown him to be a hypocrite about religion. So, I've got to believe that he cares deeply about Mecca and that his belief system would collapse if Mecca was wiped off the face of the earth. I would have to believe that he does not want us to do that, and would not want to be remembered in history as the Moslem who caused it. But I could be wrong, and his mania may have no limits.
If so, maybe the Iranian mullahs or Pakistani tribesman who shelter him would be more protective of Islam's holiest site, and, seeing that we are serious, would rein him in. If not, if we are up against an apocalyptic guy who doesn't care if 1/2 the earth dies, and can't be tracked down, and gets nukes, then we are in for some troubled times, my friend. I don't know what I'd do then.

I think Osama would just love to stick it to the US and not reveal that he is truly alive. There is no benefit to him at this time to reveal such information. If and when it becomes necessary, like when we are within striking distance of OBL or he feels that the war may be lost, then he will show his ugly mug on an up-to-date video.
Add me to the list of people who believes that OBL is still alive.
