Defend Paul Harvey Against Attacks
ISSUE: According to a report from CNSNews.com, "General Electric, in response to Muslim complaints, has decided to pull its lighting advertisements from Paul Harvey's syndicated radio show, at least for the time being."
On Dec. 4, the 84-year-old Harvey was describing cockfighting in Iraq when he made the following comment on-air: "Add to the thirst for blood a religion which encourages killing, and it is entirely understandable if Americans came to this bloody party unprepared."
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim "civil rights group", objected to the phrase "a religion which encourages killing," and it demanded an apology. About a week later, Harvey issued an apologetic statement through a fill-in host.
And who is this CAIR? According to terrorism expert Daniel Pipes, CAIR "presents itself as just another civil-rights group... In reality, CAIR is something quite different. For starters, it's on the wrong side in the war on terrorism."
CAIR has said that depicting Osama bin Laden as "the sworn enemy" is "offensive to Muslims"; when President Bush closed the "Holy Land Foundation" for collecting money he said was "used to support the Hamas terror organization," CAIR decried his action as "unjust" and "disturbing"; and the FBI's former chief of counterterrorism, Steven Pomerantz, has even concluded that "CAIR, its leaders and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups."
And it's THAT group that is now attacking Paul Harvey for a single on-air comment... and what's worse, General Electric is listening to them!
It's time for GE to listen to YOU instead.
ACTION ITEM: Paul Harvey is a true-blue, red-blooded American patriot, and a long-standing icon on American airwaves. Shouldn't hard-working, patriotic Americans like you and I stand up for him when he's attacked by radical groups like CAIR?
A GE spokesman was quoted as saying that the company hasn't yet decided whether to resume its advertising on Harvey's syndicated radio show, which has 24 million weekly listeners on some 1,600 radio stations in this country and around the world.
So, we've set up a quick and easy way for you to have your voice heard LOUD and CLEAR in defense of Paul Harvey. Go to our site below to send a message to GE, urging that company to ignore the complaints of radical groups like CAIR and keep supporting Harvey:
Support Paul Harvey
NOTE: If you prefer, you can also call GE's Public Affairs office at:
203-373-3476 to voice your opinion.
Be sure to forward this Alert to everyone you know who doesn't want to see patriotic Americans like Paul Harvey attacked by radical groups like CAIR.
Thank you!

Wait a second! GE produces engines for our fighter/bomber aircraft in their Lynn, Mass plant. Those same aircraft have killed thousands of Muslims.
I'm happy to see that GE and the Arabs have joined to fight the real enemy: 84 year old Paul Harvey!
Yes!
Good Day!

Most GE appliances that I've purchased over the last few years would have probably made good boat anchors. They haven't been good for much else Hot Point products are also made by GE. Get White-Westinghouse, Whirlpool, Maytag or other brands as appropriate. Sears/Kenmore are mostly Whirlpool.
Westinghouse also makes those electrical generators that so bothered a previous poster.

That they do, but most of those aircraft can accommodate an equivalent Pratt&Whitney engine. Those that can't, like the A-10 and S-3, could probably be re-engined with something by Williams Research, or other small engine maker. Even Allison (Now part of Rolls-Royce) can make some perfectly good engines. We don't need no steenking GE.

I didn't know that! (I heard GE makes the best engines in the world, so I hope they don't lose the contract.)
This is a really weird fight for GE to pick. I can't understand it, unless they are appealing for Mid-East business or something. Very distressing as Paul Harvey's comments are off the radar of the major news media. People kind of expect Paul to say these off the wall things. CAIR shouldn't care.

thanks.

Thanks Webber, I just wrote the following letter, I hope it's ok.
Gary Sheffer
General Manager,
Public Affairs and Employee Communications
General Electric
Dear Mr. Sheffer;
I find it discouraging that your fine institution, General Electric, has stooped to "politically correct" appeasement of the worst kind. I refer to your withdrawal of sponsorship from Paul Harvey's radio show after pressure from the extremist Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR.
Paul Harvey is a great American and a patriot who remains a loyal, productive and positive part of our society even in his senior years. He truly represents Americans at their best. How insulting that you choose to side with CAIR, even after Mr. Harvey has apologized for stating his opinion, something no American should be forced to do.
CAIR presents itself as speaking for the rights of a minority, when in fact they are an aggressive group with a specific agenda. Terrorism expert Daniel Pipes, recently appointed to the U.S. Institute of Peace has this to say about CAIR:
Excerpts from: http://www.danielpipes.org/article/1374:
"His (Paul Harvey's) recent run-in with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), militant Islam's most powerful institution in North American, provides a textbook example of Islamist aggression."
"I have been documenting since 1999 CAIR's use of such censorious tactics against anyone who dares criticize Islam, militant Islam, or Muslims. This reflects the militant Islamic ambition to privilege Islam, which implies in part a prohibition on free discussion about it."
"CAIR upped the ante on Dec. 8 by calling on its minions to contact a different sponsor of Harvey's each day to press it to drop its advertising on his program "until Harvey responds to Muslim concerns. CAIR here rejects the American principle of free speech and the belief that differences in opinion should be dealt with through reasoned discourse; it wants to close down debate. I can think of no U.S. organizations except the militant Islamic ones that deploy comparable tactics."
Excerpts from http://www.danielpipes.org/article/394:
"The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations presents itself as just another civil-rights group. "We are similar to a Muslim NAACP," says spokesman Ibrahim Hooper. "
"In reality, CAIR is something quite different. For starters, it's on the wrong side in the war on terrorism. One indication came in October 1998, when the group demanded the removal of a Los Angeles billboard describing Osama bin Laden as "the sworn enemy," finding this depiction "offensive to Muslims."
Not surprisingly, CAIR also backs those who finance terrorism. When President Bush closed the Holy Land Foundation in December for collecting money he said was "used to support the Hamas terror organization," CAIR decried his action as "unjust" and "disturbing."
"...On Feb. 2, 1995, U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White named Siraj Wahhaj as one of the "unindicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators" in the attempt to blow up New York City monuments. Yet CAIR ... includes him on its advisory board."
"...FBI's former chief of counterterrorism, Steven Pomerantz, concludes that "CAIR, its leaders and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups."
For a Muslim point of view on the extremism promoted by CAIR see the following:
From http://www.meforum.org/article/14/ :
"Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is a Muslim Brethren front organization in the United States that lobbies against journalists and scholars who dare to write anything about Islam at variance with the Brethrens Islamist agenda, such as advocating diversity in Islam. " Your capitulation to a group such as CAIR is both appalling and distressing. I hope you take the time to visit the links above and learn more about this organization, it's ties to terrorist organizations and its aggressive agenda against the American principle of free speech.
In the meantime, I will avoid products with the GE label and advise my friends to do likewise. Americans like Paul Harvey and free speech must be protected against subversive groups such as CAIR. In your zeal for political correctness and fear of being branded anti-Muslim, you have acted in a way that harms American freedom and honest Muslims everywhere.
Thank you for your attention and consideration of this matter.

Sears/Kenmore are mostly Whirlpool. :>) GE has some good cooking appliances. However, you never want to buy anything manufactured by GE that runs water through it. NEVER buy a GE washing machine or dishwasher. A lot of people say the same about their refrigerators.

GE respects these Bin Laden loving clowns? People who go nuts when you say Bin Laden is the enemy? Good grief. Judging GE by the advisers it keeps, I'd call that company a bunch of creeps. "We bring good things to the dark."

Paul Harvey is as mainstream as apple pie. He's a gentleman who if anything, is too worried about offending people.

Osama bin Laden IS our sworn enemy, basically. CAIR can cry me a river about that one!

From Paul Harvey's biography: Mr. Harvey moved to Hawaii in 1940 to cover the U.S. Navy as it began to concentrate its fleet in the Pacific. He was returning to the United States from that assignment when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Paul Harvey enlisted into the Army Air Corps, where he served until 1944. How many servicemen in World War II were discharged honorably before the end of the war?

FYI. I just called GE and they have decided to continue to advertise with Mr. Harvey. Well done Freepers.

Refreshing. Vintage Harvey.
Blood sports are un-American and anti-Western. Uncivilized and barbaric. Thank goodness we still have at least one person, Mr. Harvey, in the national media who has the courage to say it plainly.

I posted in #28 regarding a rumor I had heard that Paul Harvey avoided military service in WWII. I thought this should be brought up since someone had called him a "true-blue, red-blooded American patriot". The truth of the matter is that he served in the Army Air Corps, but was discharged in 1944. It has always been my impression that most servicemen in WWII were "in for the duration", both by requirement and inclination. So it seems somewhat odd that Harvey left in 1944. Someone mailed me privately giving a reason that he had read for Harvey's early discharge. Since it was a private communication, I won't repeat the details here. I used to enjoy listening to Paul Harvey, although I thought that the SNL caricature of him many years ago was pretty good.
