Lobbyists working with the White House said Bush is developing a plan that would allow immigrants to cross the border legally if jobs are waiting for them. The sources said the administration also wants to provide a way for some undocumented workers in the United States to move toward legal status.
Bush will try to make the plan more palatable to conservatives by including stricter entry controls, including increased use of technology at the border and steps toward better enforcement of current visa restrictions and reporting requirements, sources said.
< SNIP >
The White House plan is being designed by Bush's senior adviser, Karl Rove, in consultation with the domestic policy staff. Sources said the White House's biggest concern is that the new mechanism not penalize people who had followed the law and reward those who had not. McCain's plan, which was introduced in the House by Reps. Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), tries to mitigate that problem by creating a new type of visa for previously undocumented workers who would be allowed to live in the United States legally for three years. Then the workers could apply for the temporary worker visa, which would be the path to a green card, or legal permanent residency. That would amount to a three-year advantage for those who entered legally.

. There are many people who came here with good intentions, have worked hard and broken no laws other than overstaying their Visas.Greed is a 'good intention'? Excuse me, but your illegal friend just jumped in line in front of millions of people worldwide who are doing the right thing by applying to move here legally....including impoverished people that are seeking to feed their families.
Your friend just said "F*** you all!" to every single person that has been waiting patiently here for years to immigrate here as soon as he overstayed his Visa.
No, your greedy friend should not be rewarded and should be deported to his country of origin. Yesterday.

Yup, and what happens when Dan Rather leads off every single newscast, night after night after night, with crying Mexican women and children being hauled out of the country away from the lives they've built in America.
That's crap. Quit being an enabler of cowardice and appeasement. The Left got all the help it could from Bush, Kemp, and Bennett on #187, and we still won. You're like one of Jushua's spies, afraid that he's a grasshopper. I'll tell you what: Political support for the crackdown goes *poof*.
Look: we won. In your analysis, demonstrated victories are defeats. Quit your hand-wringing and enabling and understand that Karl Rove and President Bush are flat-out political fools to pursue any sort of legalization for Illegals. Why do you suppose the President always so carefully dissembles about is true intentions in this regard? If appeasement to Illegals was popular, why wouldn't President Bush be a more open and enthusiastic champion of this evisceration of our national soverignty and the rule of law?

"I thought they blamed the onion?"
Get my point? It could have been the 5 dideased workers in any specific case. The govt DOES NOT KNOW how EACH victim got sick. But they pinned it on the onions! All 100 something cases.
And we all bought it, hook, line and sinker. Informing us that not all cases might have been from onions was too much of a PC risk.

Flame away all on this thread and tell me how Howard Dean would solve your problema. Dean won't solve the problem, but with a Republican Congress they would never support an amnesty that he proposed. I remember seeing Republicans on tv complaining like the dickens, and rightly so when Clinton proposed an amnesty. I just hope we see them this time around too.

The US is not benefitting from illegal immigration right now. La Raza and other racist groups have decided they will not join the melting pot, they would much rather balkanize. They do not even want to learn the language anymore, they say we should learn theirs.
This is more of an invasion than anything. This will destroy this country sooner or later.

Doens't sound like your friend is too interested in becoming 'legal'. More likely he simply knew nothing about the opportunity's for amnesty you cited. I sure didn't.
Most people like him are scared to death to go to immigration for anything..for fear they will be sent back.
Would you want to leave the US for life in some 3rd world country? I sure wouldn't.

I agree with your post in general, the only problem is that we don't have enough military personnel to do the job. They are already overloaded as it is.

Immigrants should be disease free and be shown to provide a CONTRIBUTION (each and every one). Is that too much to ask.
I am sick and tired of all the lies shoved down our throats about I I, to condition us into submission.

..for fear they will be sent backIf that were the case, this entire thread and the entire issue would not exist.

Greed is a 'good intention'?
Huh? According to your logic anybody who attempts to better themselves or advance their career is just an evil "greedy" person?
Give me a major break.
