Atlanta, Georgia Long time-Clinton family insider and nationally-renowned political advisor Dick Morris says Sen. Hillary Clinton is leaning toward a run for the Vice Presidential spot in next years election. Morris also speculated that Howard Dean, the likely Democrat presidential nominee, will ask Mrs. Clinton to join his ticket in the near future.
Appearing last night on Bob Barrs Laws of the Universe®, Dick Morris gave some of the most candid insight into the Clinton camps strategy for her much expected run for the presidency in 2008. The transcript from the show that aired last night is as follows:
Bob Barr:
Ive gotta ask you, what is Hillary up to? When is she going to run for President? And, what is she going to be doing in the presidential race this coming year?
Dick Morris: Shell run for President in 08. But, I think that there is an increasing chance that she may run for Vice President in 04. I think that Dean is gonna get the Democratic nomination. And, he has got to be scared to death that the Clintons are going to knife him in the back while hes running.
. . . [T]he Clintons put up Wesley Clark. They funded him. They put all of their people in there. They backed Liebermann before that. They flirted with Kerry. Anybody but Dean! And, Dean has got to be very scared about that. And, I think theres a very good argument that he may wanna take a hostage and put Hillary on his ticket, so that doesnt happen.
. . . And from Hillarys point of view, a month ago she thought she had a clear shot at the nomination in 08. She knew Dean would win. She knew that Dean would loose to Bush. It was ideal. There would be an open White House and no democrat of any stature to run. Then Gore comes along and endorses Dean. And, thats basically a statement by Gore that Im not retired. Im back in the fray. You may see me running in 08.
. . . And then she has to also worry that there may be a new vice presidential candidate, like Wesley Clarke, who could use it to run in 08. So, for a lot of reasons she may want to get in there, preempt Clark, outshine Gore, and have her clear shot at the nomination.
Bob Barrs Laws of the Universe® airs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM each Sunday evening on the Radio America Network. Bob Barr entertains listeners with his sharp sense of humor and unconventional wit applied to current news and politics.

The only way Hillary will be on a Dean ticket is if there is a guaranteed loss in 2004. If Dean were to win in 2004 that would definitely create a problem for her in 2008 assuming Dean elected to run again. Hillary as the incumbent VP vying against a setting democrat president...I don't think so.
To: harpu
Hey, I've been saying it for months.
Of course with Dick's track record I must be wrong.

This clears her of her promise to serve out her term and IF she should get drafted by her minions, then she throws her broom into the ring. Good ol Clinton incrementalism! This primary will be the wicked witch and her 9 monkeys!

Actually, I saw someone on FR give the following scenario...
Dean manages to stay alive for two years and one day after inauguration. Suddenly falls victim to Arkancide.Hitlery sworn in...22nd Amendment says she can now serve TWO FULL TERMS after serving out the rest of the ex-Pres' term.
Enter the "Hillary Decade", full of Constitutional abuses, not to mention abuse of the Patriot Act.
At the end of 12 years, a "national emergency" comes up. Due to the fear and chaos, she assumes Emergency Powers, to include the "temporary" repeal of the 2nd and 22nd Amendments. She's now "Queen Hillary", we're her slaves, and the world goes to Hell.
Happy scenario, no?

A slight misnomer: A VP doesn't "run" for the office. Would agree with some here who say that Hill is afraid of Rudy beating the "pantsuit" off of her...lol

Nah, she heard Rudy is running against her and knows she will never win again in NY. She's moving on to plan B.
That's what I was thinking. She'll be toast in 2006, not 2008, so she'd best do something now.
I was thinking that too. It gives here a "bye" on Rudy, who she probably can't beat. Also, I agree that Gore might get back into it, so a symbolic VP run on a Dean ticket might help her image. The fact that Dean is not expected to win might actually play to Hillery's advantage, since she would not be blamed for a loss.

I don't doubt Morris being right, which means you just gotta love the arrogance of the Clintons. She may DECIDE to run as VP. Never a consideration that the presidential candidate chooses and invites who he wants. No, SHE will decide whether or not she wants to run as VP.

Dean would have to have a pretty serious death wish to want Hillary! as a Veep.

If the lose is that clear...why would she accept second slot?
She wants to be President...NOW.

Dean would not be that stupid...maybe Clark...but not Hillery. He could not trust her one single day of the four-year term. And behind the scenes....with Bill in DC....just doesn't make sense.
To: InterceptPoint
How long? I guess two safe years, that way Cankles could run for two full additional terms.

As long as we're talking nightmare scenarios, how would the NJ Supreme Court deal with the situation if the Howard Dean Straight Talk Express goes off a cliff sometime
after the Convention? Would the nomination go to the Veep candidate automatically? Would the Democrat Party get a chance to name a new candidate at a new convention? Would the dead guy stay on the ticket, with the Veep sworn in instead?
The mind reels!

As usual, I think Dick Morris needs to cut down on his meds before he starts making predictions. I figure its a side effect from the combination of his Zoloft with orally ingested Lamisil. Hey, what pharmacist thought those two would be taken together???
I'm surprised that we still pay any attention to Dickie. If the title of this thread had contained his name, I wouldn't have even clicked on it.

A "presidential suicide" would be difficult to pull off, but if I were Dean, I would not travel on airplanes. I might think seriously of planning my trips on Air Force One, then switching to Air Force Two at the last moment.
To: politicalwit
Dean/Clinton would be a win/win for Hillarius, and a lose/lose for every living thing on the planet should they succeed.
If they lose, she's guaranteed to be the candidate of record for the next election and will be the leader of the party til then. Dean will be toast, like the loser goron.
If they win, Dean will be the easiest of any possible dem presidential candidates for her to snuff. He's stupid as a clam but arrogantly thinks he's a genius. He'll play right into any trap she sets for him.
She'd have a lot harder time murdering one of the others, should they manage to get in.

If she were my Veep, I'd hire a food taster.

If Dean were to win in 2004 that would definitely create a problem for her in 2008 assuming Dean elected to run again.Read my previous post #40 and also read the 22nd amendment. Dean-Clinton 2004 could be Hillary 2007. Also, Hillary could be elected twice after succeeding the president. All she would have to do is make sure she doesn't serve more than half of the elected term. So theoretically she could serve up to ten years as president and be the second longest serving (self-serving) president in US history.

He could not trust her one single day of the four-year term. I think she would be extremely trustworthy for the first 730 days.

If Dean is elected with her as the vp; he better watch his health, my guess is he will catch a mother of all colds by Feb '05
