Albert A. Gore III, the son of former Vice President Al Gore, was arrested last night in Bethesda, Md. for possession of marijuana.
According to Montgomery County police, Gore was driving a dark-colored Cadillac through downtown Bethesda around 11:30 p.m. with the car's headlights off.
Police officers who were conducting a campaign against impaired driving during the holiday season stopped the car and noticed that despite the freezing temperature, all the car's windows were open as well as the sunroof.
When the officer spoke with the driver, Mr. Gore, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.
When officers searched the car, they found what appeared to be a partial marijuana cigarette near the center console area. They also found a baggie of suspected marijuana inside a cigartette box and a crushed soda can with an odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the can.
Gore and the two passengers in the car were charged with one count of possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. All three were released pending trial.

Hey, what's Gore III doing driving around in a Cadillac? With his enviro-nut dad, he should be driving some sort of electric hybrid or maybe a bicycle.

Ah, he's apparently "inför" being a "rätta" ...

Al Gore's son arrested for pot possession WASHINGTON (AP) The son of former vice president and 2000 Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore has been charged with marijuana possession.
Albert A. Gore III, 21, was arrested Friday night after he was stopped for driving a vehicle without its headlights on. Two passengers were also arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. They were identified as Yann V. Kumin, 21, and Marc G. Hordon, 22, both of Cambridge, Mass. A Montgomery County, Md., police officer stopped the car, a dark-colored Cadillac, in Bethesda, a Washington suburb, around 11:30 p.m. Friday. The officer noticed the car's windows and sunroof were open, despite cold temperatures Friday night. There was also a smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a news release from the police department. A search of the vehicle turned up a partial marijuana cigarette, a cigarette box containing suspected marijuana, and a soft drink can that also smelled of marijuana. All three were released pending trial. In September 2002, the younger Gore was ticketed for driving under the influence. He was pulled over and ticketed by military police just outside Fort Myer in suburban Virginia, but was not taken into custody. In the summer of 2000, Gore was cited by the North Carolina Highway Patrol for driving 97 mph in a 55-mph zone. Under an agreement with prosecutors, a reckless driving charge was dropped in the North Carolina case, but he was fined $125 for speeding and his driving privileges in the state were suspended. |

I have no sympathy. Any bad fortune that befalls the Gore family is well earned by Al's attempted coup d'etat for those 36 days in 2000.

You mean that he doesn't drive a hybrid? I thought the internal combustion engine was supposed to be the most evil thing in the world, after W, of course.

Any mention of anything related to Al Gore does bring about a certain queasiness in many people.

Al Gore's son charged with pot possession

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The son of former Vice President Al Gore was arrested Friday night on a marijuana possession charge after police stopped the car he was driving for not having its headlights on, according to a news release from the Montgomery County, Maryland, Department of Police Services.
Albert Gore III, 21, was behind the wheel of a Cadillac driving in downtown Bethesda at 11:30 p.m. EST Friday when it was spotted by a unit with the Montgomery County Police Holiday Task Force, the statement said.
After he pulled the car over, Officer Robert Cassels noticed all of its windows and the sunroof were opened despite the freezing temperature, and he "smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the car," the statement said.
A search of the car found "a partial marijuana cigarette" and "a cardboard cigarette box with a baggie containing suspected marijuana," the police statement said.
In addition to Gore, police charged two male passengers in the car with a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana. The three were released from jail, pending trial.
Gore, a Harvard University student, has had previous brushes with the law. He was ticketed for reckless driving by North Carolina police in August 2000 when he was clocked going 94 mph. Military police arrested him for drunk driving near a military base in Virginia in September 2002.
My Comment: It's interesting to note in this CNN story, they say that the three were released from jail... in MoCo they usually just write a citation on the spot for simple possession. So maybe they were brought into the station because AlGore III was driving at the time of the judgement error. Or it could just be sloppy rewriting of the press release.
