Ten Russians Reported Killed in Chechnya
Associated Press ^ | 12/20/03 | YURI BAGROV

VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia - Ten Russian servicemen were killed in rebel attacks in Chechnya within 24 hours, an official in the Kremlin-backed Chechen administration said Saturday.

In the neighboring republic of Dagestan, meanwhile, Russian forces in the snowy mountains fought a band of Chechen insurgents who crossed into Dagestan early in the week.

The news agency ITAR-Tass cited Dagestan's leader, Magomedali Magomedov, as saying that one group of insurgents was trapped in a gorge, but it was unclear whether that included all the remaining fighters who entered Dagestan on Monday. Officials previously said that at least 10 of those rebels had been killed.

The foray into Dagestan prompted fears that Chechen rebels would repeat previous incursions into the region during Russia's two wars against Chechen separatists in the past decade.

Russian troops rolled back into Chechnya in September 1999 after Chechen rebels carried out attacks in villages in western Dagestan and after the Kremlin blamed militants for apartment bombings that killed some 300 people in Russia.

The current war has seen few major offensives by either side in recent years. The battle has turned into a bloody stalemate in which the rebels inflict daily casualties on the Russians with small attacks and explosions, while Russian forces pound the mountainous southern region with artillery and air attacks to uproot the rebels.

During a recent 24-hour span, five Russian soldiers were killed when military positions and checkpoints came under rebel fire, an official in the Chechen administration said on condition of anonymity.

Three more soldiers died when their armored personnel carrier hit a land mine, and two members of OMON, the Interior Ministry's special troops, were killed during a clash with rebels, the official said.

It appears most of the "Chechen" rebels killed were TURKS, if the following sources are correct, though I can't read the Russian in the second link.

When oh when will people finally realize/admit/acknowledge that Russia's battle against the Chechnyan terrorists is the same battle we're fighting against al qaeda and the same that Israel is waging against the pali terrorists (so-called palis) and the Philippines against Abu Sayyaf?!

It's a worldwide battle to the death with islamofascism, only our side doesn't realize the full extent and importance of this.

In the last week alone, the Russkies have lost 50+ servicemen in the Caucusus. That doesn't even include non-fatal and civilian casualties.

Of course, I'm waiting for CNN et al, to point out these deaths and the total thus far, just like Iraq! Yeah, right...

We're waking up to the real scope of the threat, and it ain't pretty.

The stunning victory of Chechen nationalists versus the decaying Russian Federation was a minor campaign in the Third World War yet it held tremendous strategic significance for America's 21st century energy policy. With U.S. covert operations successfully overthrowing the Georgian government, the Chechen flank was secured and Shamil Basayev given the green light to launch his offensive against Moscow. Basayev was willing to negotiate free passage for the Baku-Tblisi oil pipeline in exchange for the high-tech weaponry and real-time intelligence reports needed to annihilate the Russian occupation forces.

-- Triumph of the Postmodern: The Third World War Revisited. p. 156

*******

Actually they are two different battles. Chechen nationalists seek to effectively reach a decision in their two century struggle with Russia by collapsing the Russian Federation with a direct strike on Moscow. Shamil Basayev has vowed a holy oath to neutralise Putin and in doing so free his people.

Liberal elements in the US State Department have constantly battled conservatives that understand the true threat to America by Russia and the ex-KGB thug. The conservatives reaching a deal in the last few weeks with Basayev much as has occurred in Libya. Chechen nationalists have received modern MANPADS to jump start their new offensive in return for pipeline assurances in the 21st century.

Putin just another Moscow hoodlum wearing a cheap suit and bad haircut. He has hijacked democracy in Russia and now must be eliminated so that all mankind can be free and prosper. You are either with the US or against the US -- Putin has made his choice and now will suffer the consequences.

Moscow forecast for February 1st: Two thousand degrees and partly cloudy...

Basayev travels light, but that one suitcase packs a real wallop...

The forces of freedom on the move. Europe trembles.

Why isn't this front and center in the news, tied into the war against islamofascist terrorists?

And while I'm on this tear, what's with the dopey "War on Terrorism"? Terrorism is the means of waging war, it's not the enemy; the enemy is islamofascists who want nothing more than to convert or kill us, and establish a worldwide wahabbi nation. Time to knock off the politically correct bullclinton and call the enemy what it is -- ISLAMOFASCISM.

1 Feb is now the date that the most brilliant military leader of our lifetime will choose to turn Moscow into a parking lot? I've jotted this down on my calander. Russian intelligence better be on the lookout for a peglegged moron in a luggage store.

I keep wondering why a thug like Putin is putting up with this carnage. Why doesn't he go in there and clean house?

It occurs to me that he is likely using the situation to facilitate his consolidation of power. He can leverage the Russian's fear to garner more power in the name of "security".

Chechen separatists

An article worthy of Pravda, Isvestia, and The New York Times.

Just can't bring themselves to say the word "Muslims" or "Islamic" along with the
word "terrorists".

The writer of the article must be trying to follow the example of Walter Duranty...
The NYTimes writer who got a Pulitzer for articles full of half-to-zero truth.

Fusion is not what he's cracked up to be. I actually enjoy his posts.

RC, I'm not 100% accurate, but I believe that their are around 70 recognized conflicts on this planet. Of those conflicts all but a handfull involve Islamonuts and the different cultures that they border. Is it the rest of the world ganging up on them??? I doubt it...look at the demographics in the muslim countries - 99.9% muslim, .1% other. Either you are with them, or you will die. We are in WWIII....I hope Putin & Bush have several covert aggreements to help the cause. China too as they are being victimized in their western provinces as well.
