Bill O'Reilly: Did He Really Have To Take A Shot At Dead Strom Thurmond??
O'Reilly Factor ^

Posted on 12/19/2003 5:59:03 PM PST by Recovering_Democrat

For God's sakes. O'Reilly apparently got Strom's grandson on--a black American who is Strom's grandchild through Essie Mae Washington-Williams. The man had nothing bad to say about Strom...he said it was kept quiet because there was no reason to say anything, and that the family viewed Strom in a favorable light.

He even said he was a Republican who supported the President and will vote for him again.

Bill's response? I'll paraphrase:

"I'm glad all this is coming out. It shows your grandfather to be a massive hypocrite. Don't wanna hurt your feelings, but your grandad was a hypocrite."

The guy (sorry I didn't catch his name) didn't seem angry or anything, he just smiled at Bill.

Now I generally think O'Reilly is okay...but taking a shot at the recently deceased is, um, well, a bit in bad taste, isn't it? Especially since even the "victim" isn't mad...and in fact looked up to old Strom.

Just my opinion.

Of course, his ratings would really have to plummet in order to go below the losers on CNN. ;-)

O'Reilly was no doubt expecting someone with a grudge.

You ain't just whistling Dixie, Miss Marple. O'Reilly got his head handed to him by the gracious doctor.

He is--by far--a bigger threat to democracy than is any conservative.

The thing I really don't like about O'Reilly is his shat-eatin Kool-Aid grin. I get sick everytime I see it.

I haven't watched O'Reilly in a long while.

Too bad for you. I guess you missed the 1000 plugs for his book.

Regardless of whether Bill thinks that Strom was a hypocrite, if he can't debate that with Strom himself, he has no business trying to get in his insults to his grandchild. He should have kept that to himself.

No, my preference run to the right of those feloows and O'Reilly and when I want diversity I listen to some local liberals who are relatively honest. I prefer people who believe in something, no matter where they fall on the spectrum. O'Reilly doesn't believe in anything but thats just MHO.

Hey, yall:

Are we each going to write a pithy comment to O'Reilly or just let him slide?

I was just going to suggest that! Let's write a letter about it (I'm sure he's going to get thousands about this one).

O'Reilly has peaked. He was interesting when he was new, but after awhile you realize that anyone who claims to have it ALL figured out is a boob.

He's dead wrong on some issues, and in any event, it's all about him. He shares that characteristic with Hillary Clinton, someone he detests.

I guess it can't be all about BOTH of them.

The whole spat with Drudge began when Matt exposed that O'Reilly was planning a radio show to compete with Rush right after the hearing loss was announced. It has gone down hill ever since.

O'Reilly doesn't call himself a conservative, and he isn't. He's a populist, who is always looking for an angle to represent "the little guy" against "the powerful." In this he is much like Howard Dean. There is really very little ideological about Bill O'Reilly.

I think what is frustrating the effort to besmirch the memory of Thurmond is the fact that in the face of a mistake he did the right thing. There can be no claim of deadbeat dad or that he never was fatherly to her. Its the leftists (or near leftists) trying to point out the spinter in other people's eyes when they have logs in theirs.

Democracy -- Bill O'Reilly and as many people that he sway to vote like him, against you. Sorry, I don't like democracy. Two wolves, one sheep, "who's for lunch" and all that. If Bill O'Reilly is a threat to "smaller government," then I be agin' 'im.

An astute analysis of O'Reilly.

I almost forgot his radio show existed. *LOL*

Strom Thurman was no more a hypocrite for embracing white segregation than many black revolutionaries were for making babies with white women. At least he had a grain of a conscience and took care of his daughter when he didn't have to. That's more than I can say for a lot 'civil rights' leaders.

O'Reilly is like a strong adult beverage. Small sips and best watched after a large turkey dinner.
