WASHINGTON -- Some centrist Democrats may fret about front-runner Howard Dean's ability to match up to President Bush in a general election, but his college transcript sure could.

Bush, who graduated from Yale University in 1968, had a less-than-stellar record, with what the president described as "gentleman's Cs." Dean's transcript shows the political science major sailing through a slight sophomore slump to earn mostly high marks his last two years.

...

The transcript shows Howard Brush Dean III with a Park Avenue address and a course load reflective of those antiestablishment years. Dean took more than one class on Marxism and studied the "History of Soviet Union," "Soviet Foreign Policy," "International Communism" and "Chinese Politics."

I know it is possible to get into Med School wih a B.S. in almost any subject, but a certain number of science courses should also be needed. This article does not mention any science courses or, obviously, how Dean did in sciences. Would be interested to know.

. . . and a course load reflective of those antiestablishment years.

BS!!! Few of us took that crap. Only the most dedicated America-haters did. Of all my anti-Vietnam war friends back then, I don't know one who took "History of Soviet Union," "Soviet Foreign Policy," "International Communism" and "Chinese Politics."

I guess the RATS have to dredge up this old chestnut again. All the Republicans have to do is match Bush's legislative victories in 4 years against their "Rhode" scholar, Klinton, in 8 years. Give me an average student with some common sense any day.

Actually I took a bunch of classes like that when I was an undergrad, but I was a poli sci major. Most Poli Sci profs were pragmatists, not commies. Henry Kissenger was their god. Now those english and international studies profs, those were commies.

I took a course on China as one of my political science requirements while at the University of Michigan. Not sure I could recall any specifics about it at this point, though.
