Congratulations! It was five years ago today the House of Representatives impeached President William Jefferson Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice.
Those brave representatives survived an all-out war of political brinksmanship which included public threats of retaliation and private threats to bring down the government if Clinton was impeached.
James Carville threatened Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr with "kneecapping;" Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde; George Stephanopoulos passed along the threat to employ the "Ellen Romesch defense"--a public blackmailing of Congress; Hillary Clinton said on the Today Show that those plotting against her husband "would have alot to answer for" when this was done; Paula Jones was called "trailer trash" and worse for simply seeking justice and an apology; Linda Tripp had her reputation destroyed by a conspiracy of Clinton administration officials and media operatives. Even Monica Lewinsky feared for her life and kept the infamous blue dress stained with presidue for insurance.
Thank God that people like Linda Tripp stood tall and refused to back down in their determination to see that a president of the United States could not commit felonies in office with impunity.
And thank God for people like Jim Robinson, Bob Barr, Gary Aldrich, Alan Keyes, Larry Klayman, Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Dale and all the rest who spoke at, organized and attended Free Republic's nationally televised rally supporting Clinton's impeachment on October 31, 1998.
You done good! Impeachment is forever. You can be proud that in America's hour of need, you answered the call to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

And remember Bob Livingston taking the podium and those odious dems starting to chant "Resign, resign"
And he DID! And he also made the case for the impeachment.

I should have added, at quick read (and before tea!), it appeared you were perhaps one of the "soccer moms" who helped Clinton get elected and re-elected.

It implies he/she thought he didn't deserve it. I think the screen name "nina0113" implies that its owner is a woman, but "Not because X" does not imply "X." But if anyone is uncertain about it, clicking on the "nina0113" at the bottom of the post and then on the "In Forum" link should clear things up.

Wrong, What Clinton is most remembered for in the year 2200:
Clinton - Allowed the communist Chinese to acquire orbital delivery capablities. - giving speecehs at $100,000 a pop.
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg - allowed the Soviets to have plans for the atom bomb. - executed
General Benedict Arnold - attempted to give the British the plans to our northern defense, West Point. - banished
Traitors all, one major difference, Clinton committed hios treason from the loftiest office in the land. The Soviets never used the bomb, that did not lessen their crime, the were executed. The Chinese have not hit us with ICBM's, yet. It is so right to hate a traitor, why do Rush and Hannity not understand this?

Something I'll never understand about why there wasn't a slam-dunk on Obstruction of Justice or Witness Tampering.
1. Clinton's secretary testified that he came to her to "refresh his memory" about what happened.
2. In that meeting he, said over and over again, "We were never alone, right? You were always there, right?"
3. Unless he was being serviced right in front of Mrs. Currie, the above statement was absolutely false, and could not have been part of a memory refresh. i.e., it was obvious coaching of the witness to give false testimony.
Slam-dunk!
If the Senate would have concentrated on this point alone, there would have been sufficient support for removal from office. But I never heard it mentioned after the trial in the house.

If I had a dime for every time I thought..."We've got that SOB this time!" Where you been? We did get him. 100 years from now when a high school history student orders up the hologram to study the Clinton presidency, he'll see nothing but one lurid scandal after another, lies upon contemptuous lies to the American people, and cowardice in the face of terrorism. Impeachment was merely the cherry on top.
Clinton is a national embarassment, and always will be. He got his, alright.
Happy Impeachment Day. ;)

----Alec Baldwin called for the murder of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde----
And his children, as I recall.
I'll never forget the events of 1998-99.... they drove me into becoming politically active. I'd never liked Clinton, but other than that I knew jack about politics. But throughout Impeachment, seeing the lengths to which Clinton and his supporters were willing to go in order to hold on to power was so sickening and horrifying that the whole affair turned me into a hardcore Republican.
So, if not for Bill Clinton, I'd probably still be a blissfully ignorant schumuck. Thanks to the Perp-in-Chief, I am now a thoroughly educated schmuck. Thanks, Bill! (You rotten, impeached, hillbilly excuse for a President.)

I despised Clinton from the day I saw him on "60 Minutes", with his weaselly little statement about "causing pain in my marriage" when he was asked about adultery. Either say "Yes I did", or "No I didn't", or "None of your effing business" (which is the answer I would have respected most) - but don't be a weasel.
