Four Louisiana Congressiona Seats in Play

4 CONGRESSIONAL SEATS IN PLAY

The candidacies of Chris John and David Vitter open up their congressional seats in Acadiana and metro New Orleans. The next shoe to fall could be Billy Tauzin's, who might be lured to Hollywood to lobby for the movie industry. Also, national Republicans, stung by the loss of the Fifth District seat in 2002, are expected to target freshman Congressman Rodney Alexander.

Political sources say that Bobby Jindal is leaning hard to running for Vitter's seat in suburban New Orleans. His ambition conflicts with that of his major gubernatorial supporter in the area, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-Metairie), who has long been aiming for this race.

Whatever Republican makes it through the run-off is in for District-01.

Cooksey will probably take his seat back. Chris John's district seems like it would be a good pick up. Anyone got a handle on it?

No matter what we need Jindal for 2007.

I hope that Jindal will run for a House seat this time around which would prepare him for the next Senate election election. David Vitter should be a stronger candidate than Jindal for Breaux's seat.

Jindal's an executive leader deep down. He'll be okay as a legislator but I think we need him in 2007 to turn the state around after Blanco reminds us of what it was like in the 80s.

I don't know about the other two seats, but John's and Vitter's seats are not "in play". They both won with over 80% of the vote last time. Those seats are not going to switch.

Vitter will be a strong candidate.

He is very conservative socially and economically; but sensible

He will play very well in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge suburbs, and also in North Lousiana.

Because he is a conservative Catholic, he should also do fairly well in Cajun country if he can increase his visibility there and find some issue of economic populism to run on.

CD-1 (Vitter's seat) will stay GOP without a Jindal run. Jindal will have carpetbagger problems if he does decide to run.

John's seat will be a Dem hold due to the increasing Dem momentum in the area.

Tauzin's seat is gone because his district is virtually the same demographics as Acadiana.

However, Cooksey will probably pick up his old seat for the sake of nostalgia (which is usually good enough to win in Louisiana).

Hopefully by 2007, the population of Louisiana will have evolved enough to elect Jindal, but pending a massive exodus of the idiots from North Louisiana, it's not looking good.
