Christmas Under Attack Nationwide
Library officials in Meriden, Connecticut, have banned five paintings of Jesus by local artist Mary Morley. The library is allowing paintings of Moses, David and Goliath, Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II, and other religious figures but not Jesus.
According to Morley, library officials told her that paintings of Jesus "would cause too much upset and outcry. Isn't Jesus a historical figure?" The library says it can ban displays that are "inappropriate" or "offensive" to "any segment of the community."
Morley has contacted The Rutherford Institute to consider filing a lawsuit against the library for religious discrimination and violation of her freedom of speech.
More on this story is available here: Record-Journal.com
In Pennsylvania, a school district and parents are arguing over whether or not to ban all Christmas celebrations, including the singing of Christmas carols.
In Colorado, the ACLU has threatened to sue a school district over Christmas celebrations, including the singing of "Jingle Bells." The ACLU claims that Jewish students don't feel "safe or welcome" in the school when Christmas is celebrated.
Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). According to ADF lawyer Barry Arrington, "This is the same old ACLU ploy of fear, intimidation and disinformation." The ADF has launched a Christmas Project that provides legal information for schools facing ACLU threats.
TVC has posted several links on this issue on our web site.
The attacks on Christmas are not limited to the ACLU. Corporations are now becoming "politically correct" and many are deleting any mention of Christmas in their advertising or stores. Instead, they are using words like "winter holiday" to describe the Christmas season.
In New York, public school officials are denying that Jesus was a real historical figure so they can ban Christmas!
A couple in Virginia recently started a web site to fight back against this anti-Christmas trend.
The GrinchList.com site describes what companies are becoming politically correct and lists those that are still promoting Christmas.
The mission of the site is to: expose [offending organizations] to the millions of consumers whose heritage is being expunged from the public cultural arena."
GrinchList founders Kirk and Amy McElwain, urge consumers to contact stores that have censored any mention of Christmas and to encourage corporations that have stood strong against the tide of political correctness.

Until recently I did not realize how diversified I truly am.I have no problem with people enjoying whatever religion they please(If they disliked it they probably would not be in it),eat the foods wear the clothes play the games and generally live their lives as well and meaningfully as they desire....However I do not want them the A.C.L.U. or the government telling me that I or anyone else may not do the same because we may offend a certain group(s).Who decides what is offensive, and to whom....Easy,it is those who profit from the social friction, pitting one group against another, create a problem(s) for which only they have the answer(s).

The ACLU claims that Jewish students don't feel "safe or welcome" in the school when Christmas is celebrated. Well, I am Jewish, and I don't feel "safe or welcome" any place where the ACLU is around.

I have yet to see the A.C.L.U. demand that Jews refrain from religious displays in public The ACLU has been trying to ban the Chabad public menorahs for several years now.

It seems to me that if the birth of Christ was important enough for the angels to come to Earth to sing out with joy, then is is important enough for me to remember it each year and celebrate this most important date in the history of mankind in a similar way. If you feel otherwise, that is up to you, but don't criticize those who celebrate Christmas for all the right reasons.

A couple of years ago I attended the Christmas performance of my daughter's school chorus. About midway through I noticed that I had entertained songs about winter, Kwanza, and Hannakah; however, I had not heard one mention of Christmas, Jesus Christ, or get this -- even Santa Claus. I was upset about it enough to call the school about it, but I got the usual "We'll look into it." response.
I did, however, coin a phrase for this type of situation -- "diversity to the point of exclusion".
To: cincinnati65
"diversity to the point of exclusion".I'm going to remember that one!
Actually, I think if we're going to be totally PC we need to ban the word "holiday." Its root is from two words, holy day.
"Holy" implies religion. That is unacceptable, and it needs to be banned.

Oh Oh....Now You've done it. All these school teachers & administrators are going to have a fit over their "Holiday" celebrations.
Of course, as professional educators they should have figured that out before using it to replace Christmas. Maybe "Happy Diversity Season" will do.
Merry Christmas .... My favorite time of year.

Actually Jefferson was referring to a state sanctioned or mandated religion such
as England had at the time.
That is my understanding as well.
My comment on Jefferson was not a slam on him, but on the way the ACLU and their
fellow travelers have hi-jacked his good intentions about avoiding the sort of
theocracy that usually deteriorates into a real mess.
I respect Jefferson's vision and intellect, despite his many human flaws, such as being
unable to extricate himself from being a slaveholder.
And thank you for the A.C.L.U. Muslim/Synagogue line,I will remember it.
Another one that usually silences the crowds is this one...
Q: "Where was Jefferson the Sunday following the Friday on which he wrote the
'separation of church and state' letter to the Danbury Baptists?"
A: Attending church services held within a government office building in Washington, D.C.
Just as he did on most Sundays while in D.C.
(I think it was one of the older areas that the Congress met in during the week.)

JFK is a religious figure?
LOL! Thanks for waking me up to that connection!
I'd not really let that sink in...as I had gotten tunnel vision just thinking
of how silly that just Jesus was kicked out, but a fairly wide spectrum of
followers of Jesus made the cut!

"Can someone show where in the Bible where it says we are to celebrate Christmas annually as a lasting ordnance? Or Easter while we're at it?"
Can someone show me where God forbids the celebration of His Son's birth, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven or where we cannot worship him or practice our faith on government property, or to have a government based on Judeo/Christian Ethics?

"Don't be addin' stuff like Holidays not prescribed by Him!!"
God commanded us to work 6 days, and then on the seventh day rest. You are not to do any work on the Sabbath, nor travel no more than a stones throw from your home on the Sabbath. So, because God mandated these things to you, you observe these things strictly, don't you?
By the way, God didn't prescribe driving a car, having a refrigerator, watching tv, going to movies, etc. either.
God said that "Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all, your hear, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love thy neighbor as yourself. He also said that if someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also, and if a person forces you to walk a mile with him, walk an additional mile with him also, and if some one takes your shirt, offer him your jacket as well. And since you would not want to do something that God did not propose, YOU would definitely NOT want to offend God by NOT OBEYING ALL OF HIS COMMANDMENTS WOULD YOU?

"Can someone show me where God forbids the celebration of His Son's birth, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven...?"
The Bible is a wonderful book. But you have to actually READ it, and do what it says, and don't do what it says not to.
Isaiah 1
13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!
Your incense is detestable to me.
New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations-
I cannot bear your evil assemblies.
14 Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts
my soul hates.
They have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even if you offer many prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are full of blood;
Leviticus 23
1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD , which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.
The Sabbath
3 " 'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD .
The Passover and Unleavened Bread
4 " 'These are the LORD's appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times: 5 The LORD's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 On the fifteenth day of that month the LORD's Feast of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. 8 For seven days present an offering made to the LORD by fire. And on the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.' "
Firstfruits
9 The LORD said to Moses, 10 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11 He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12 On the day you wave the sheaf, you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the LORD a lamb a year old without defect, 13 together with its grain offering of two-tenths of an ephah [1] of fine flour mixed with oil-an offering made to the LORD by fire, a pleasing aroma-and its drink offering of a quarter of a hin [2] of wine. 14 You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until the very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.
Feast of Weeks
15 " 'From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. 16 Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the LORD . 17 From wherever you live, bring two loaves made of two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour, baked with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits to the LORD . 18 Present with this bread seven male lambs, each a year old and without defect, one young bull and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the LORD , together with their grain offerings and drink offerings-an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD . 19 Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering and two lambs, each a year old, for a fellowship offering. [3] 20 The priest is to wave the two lambs before the LORD as a wave offering, together with the bread of the firstfruits. They are a sacred offering to the LORD for the priest. 21 On that same day you are to proclaim a sacred assembly and do no regular work. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.
22 " 'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.' "
Feast of Trumpets
23 The LORD said to Moses, 24 "Say to the Israelites: 'On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. 25 Do no regular work, but present an offering made to the LORD by fire.' "
Day of Atonement
26 The LORD said to Moses, 27 "The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves, [4] and present an offering made to the LORD by fire. 28 Do no work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God. 29 Anyone who does not deny himself on that day must be cut off from his people. 30 I will destroy from among his people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a sabbath of rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath."
Feast of Tabernacles
33 The LORD said to Moses, 34 "Say to the Israelites: 'On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the LORD's Feast of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days. 35 The first day is a sacred assembly; do no regular work. 36 For seven days present offerings made to the LORD by fire, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present an offering made to the LORD by fire. It is the closing assembly; do no regular work.
37 (" 'These are the LORD's appointed feasts, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies for bringing offerings made to the LORD by fire-the burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings required for each day. 38 These offerings are in addition to those for the LORD's Sabbaths and [5] in addition to your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the freewill offerings you give to the LORD .)
39 " 'So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the LORD for seven days; the first day is a day of rest, and the eighth day also is a day of rest. 40 On the first day you are to take choice fruit from the trees, and palm fronds, leafy branches and poplars, and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the LORD for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 Live in booths for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in booths 43 so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in booths when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.' "
44 So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed feasts of the LORD .
Revelation 22
18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

You really love that book don't Eccl. These laws were given to a people who rejected God for FOREIGN Gods, but retained the "festivals" of Judaism as "ritual only". If you had bothered to read the meaning of the words in the Bible, you would not have written that ridiculous reply to my post. By your response though, it kinda tells me that you may qualify as one of the people whom God is "rebuking" for their "idolitrous" and rebellious living.

Your stunning ignorance of things Biblical is surpassed only by the unBiblical manner in which you display it.
"You really love that book don't Eccl. These laws were given to a people who rejected God for FOREIGN Gods,..."
Just as with any demographic (see the Parable of the Sower),
there are those of God's Chosen People who were faithful to God, and those who weren't. In case you missed it, every book of the Bible is written by a Jew. All the Apostles are Jews, and, oh yeah, Jesus was a Jew.
"but retained the "festivals" of Judaism as "ritual only"."
Carefully read the book of John. If you do, you will see Jesus kept the Feasts, including the one from which believers take Communion, and the one from which Easter was invented to distract believers from - Passover.
"If you had bothered to read the meaning of the words in the Bible, you would not have written that ridiculous reply to my post."
I'm sorry you find the Bible ridiculous.
"By your response though, it kinda tells me that you may qualify as one of the people whom God is "rebuking" for their "idolitrous" and rebellious living."
On the contrary, I am blessed by God in far more ways than I deserve. And did God tell you what He is thinking about me and my "idolitrous" (sic) living? I'll bet not.
Merry Christmas. Try to meditate on the meaning of the Cross, other than watching it burn on some heathen's front lawn.

The ACLU claims that Jewish students don't feel "safe or welcome" in the school when Christmas is celebrated. A total lie. My elementary school was around 95% Jewish, and every year the whole of our (large) class (except for perhaps 10 students) participated in the annual Christmas carol performance in the school auditorium, performed for our (Jewish) families.

Personally, I'm not offended if Jewish people want to celebrate Hanukah. However, don't tell me that I can't celebrate, or say, Christmas. Only a few nutballs would do that; unfortunately, they're vocal nutballs.
