Visiting your house when no one is home so I can defile your dog is now, much more palatable.

Thank you.

Ignore the smiles on your dog.

A question, Yeti, is suicide a noble act or not?

Dane, I read the whole thread for TILH. At NO time did I see anyone post ANYTHING that could have been construed to saying it was a noble act.

Stop hanging out with strawmen.

Consider this my FR Opus.

Please author a thread. Every good opus needs a thread.

That "Opus" is about as intriguing as Brad Paisley (of "When you're a celebrity fame") singing at Trista and Ryan's wedding, no?

They say I've gone insane, I blame it on the fame . . . and the pressures that go with . . . being a celebrity.

You mean the guitar part where it goes soft?

No, I mean the end, the end of the song.

Shatner was PERFECT for that video.

Family members shouldn't blame themselves, I agree - and I'm glad to know that was your point. I still strongly disagree with your insistence on describing suicide in such general, sweeping terms as "selfish" - you're just plain wrong in the case of what my family experienced - and I wish you would consider qualifying your remarks in that regard.

And in each case, you can see that selfishness, expressed as a stubbornness, while the person was alive, if you look closely.

Bullspit. Seriously.

That happens, and it's horrible. I can't imagine anything worse.

I just know it isn't always like that. It's probably not even most often like that. More typically, someone in tremendous emotional pain feels they cannot go on living. They may - like my brother did - feel they are too much of a burden or embarrassment to those they love. They may - like my brother did - feel they are a danger to those they love.

If I hear one more person insist on using the "s" word tonight ("selfish"), I swear I'm going to scream.

Depression and despair are a tad different. I'm not sure how to word this, but to a point substance abuse is a choice. It may be an outgrowth of depression or despair, but still a choice. I don't believe most people have a choice of whether depression or despair are a part of their lives.

Sometimes people can abuse feelings too, the same way people can abuse drugs and alcohol.

However, genuine, clinical depression is a tad different.

I too have at times in my life, contemplated not living. It's the depths of self-pity, selfishness, etc. It also seems like it's the only thing that will make the pain go away.

By God's grace, although unknown at the time, the fog lifted, and He has given me the strength to go on one more day until I could seek Him myself.

But I understand that for some people, there is an organic, physiological problem that keeps the fog there. And that's why God has given talent to the medical community. Unfortunately, mental health is not an involuntary issue. It takes participation.

In your case, there just may not have been a physiological/chemical issue at hand. Consider yourself lucky.
