What The Media Are Saying About Vernon Robinson

"The White House [has] a favorite."

National Journal

"Jesse Helms is back! And this time, he's black." and "A man of considerable intelligence and a conservative philosophy."

The Winston-Salem Journal

"The early favorite" to win the open seat in NC's 5th Congressional District.

United Press International

"A rising star", "the next J.C. Watts", and "the new face of the Republican Party."

The FOX News Channel

"Helms redux."

Queer Notes

"The next black GOP Congressman." and "When elected, he will be the first black GOP Congressman elected from a Confederate state since Reconstruction."

The Wall Street Journal

"The Senate candidacy of 5th District Congressman Richard Burr (R-NC) has created an open seat that may provide national Republicans with a chance to not only fill the void of black Republicans in the halls of Congress but also to move out of the shadow cast by Sen. Trent Lott's (R-Miss.) comments late last year."

Roll Call

"He's like a Rush Limbaugh candidate. His conservative credentials can't be matched. He's a firebrand Winston-Salem alderman. A U.S. Air Force Academy graduate. Smart. Outspoken. Able to raise money. And not reluctant to take on his opponents."

The Davie County Enterprise-Record

"The only black Republican re-elected to partisan office in NC in at least a century. Mr. Robinson, who has served on the Winston-Salem City Council since 1997, also carried every county in the 5th District in his 1996 race for Superintendent of Public Instruction."

The Wall Street Journal

"With Robinson on the City Council, it seems likely that [taxpayers'] pennies will be scrutinized and squeezed. In times like these, that's the way it ought to be."

The Winston-Salem Journal

"Good material for Congress."

The Clemmons Courier

"His record has been unabashedly conservative. He is the founder of two nonprofit organizations: the N.C. Education Reform Foundation, which promotes school choice, and the Carolina Education Opportunity Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to private schools for children from low-income, inner-city homes. And his compassion for children is not merely a political stance -- Robinson and his wife have three children, two of them adopted after the death of their mother."

American Family Association's News Service

What Conservative Leaders Are Saying About Vernon

"I want to recognize Vernon Robinson. We're lucky to have his conservative voice. He's done a great job on the Winston-Salem City Council and I wish him well in his campaign for Congress."

Senator Jesse Helms

"I've been watching Vernon's career on the Winston-Salem City Council for six years. He has my vote for Congress and anything else he runs for."

Charles Helms (Senator Helms' son and a resident of the 5th District)

"I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many great conservative leaders. My good friend Vernon Robinson is one of the finest of those leaders. A true Ronald Reagan Conservative, he has led the fight for school choice, less government spending, and pro-growth tax cuts for many years. Thank you in advance for helping this great American and terrific candidate get elected to the U.S. Congress."

Secretary Jack Kemp

"Vernon is a longtime activist and successful public servant who has been an effective leader on moral conservative issues for many years. He is a bold and courageous man who speaks the truth and defends without apology or equivocation that principle of human equality upon which America is founded. I am pleased to support him now in his bid for Congress."

Ambassador Alan Keyes

"Tested by fire on the Winston-Salem City Council for years, he's proven he's willing to take the heat. I hope you will join me and the 20,000 other Americans who have made a financial contribution to his campaign. Please help me get Vernon elected to Congress."

Congressman Tom Tancredo, Chairman of the Immigration Reform Caucus

"If sleazy politicians like Clinton are the disease, then virtuous statesmen like Vernon are the cure."

Lucianne Goldberg (Publicist who got Linda Tripp to tape Monica Lewinsky)

"I applaud Vernon for his allegiance to hard-working taxpayers."

Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform

"One of the most effective grassroots warriors for school choice in the country."

The Milton Friedman Foundation

"His defense of the Boy Scouts against the United Way is a victory for people of faith across the country."

Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family)

"We have plenty of conservatives in Washington. What we don't have is good conservative leaders with courage. That's why it's so critical that we elect Vernon to Congress."

Gary Aldrich, Author of "Unlimited Access: An FBI Agent Inside the Clinton White House"

"I know what kind of pressure the media, the Democrats, and even some within our own Party can put on a Congressman. Very few people can stand up to that kind of pressure. I know Vernon can."

Bob Barr, former Congressman and House Impeachment Manager

Vernon Robinson, an Air Force Academy graduate and former Bush Administration official twice elected to the Winston-Salem City Council, has at one time or another been endorsed by:

Jesse Helms • Elizabeth Dole • Lauch Faircloth • Alan Keyes • Bob Barr • Richard Burr • Tom Tancredo • Jack Kemp • Dick Armey • Gary Bauer • NRA • Gary Aldrich • Executive Directors of Gun Owners of America and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms • Grass Roots North Carolina • Right-to-Life • Bill Bennett • Pat Buchanan • Pete du Pont • U.S. Immigration Reform • English Language PAC • Police Benevolent Association • Int'l Association of Fire Fighters • Republican Liberty Caucus • The Dixie Daily News • Southern Caucus • Richard Petty • Dr. D. This is interesting. There are lots of black conservatives who are coming into the open. My friend's husband is now a Republican and he attends conservative political meetings. She told my husband about this recent change and said "there are a lot more where he came from". I think it's a silent revolution against the donkey party. People are waking up and calculating the odds. Many blacks don't like what they are seeing these days. The truth shall set you free!

I understand the sentiment, but there are few enough prominent black conservatives (seeing as how the forces that be invariably try their best to crucify them) that the announcement of a rising black conservative star is cause enough for rejoicing.

Yeah, like the 'Arnold for Gov' people were keeping silent this past Fall. This is a Conservative Forum, which includes the support of politically Conservative candidates (whenever they occur). If free speech reigns anywhere, it should be here.... excepting DU trolls, of course   ;-)

Meanwhile, I'm already sick of they Jay Helvey for Congress spots: "And now, a Conservative Minute from Jay Helvey..." -- me thinks he protests too much if he's having to mention "conservative" to intro his ads.

I agree completely!

I haven't heard any of the Jay Helvey spots, of course.
Sounds like he's a RINO on the march.

" Meanwhile, I'm already sick of they Jay Helvey for Congress spots..."

Isn't that the truth??!! And then he goes on to spout some union rhetoric about people getting cheated out of their jobs.

You know me, I'm all for using tariffs to even the playing field, but Helvey sounds like he has something more ominous in mind. The worst part is that he doesn't quite let you in on what it is.

We positively must have Vernon in Congress. If for no other reason than to be an irritant to the status quo, especially the Republicrat status quo.

Vernon is one of the few people I will be voting for next fall.

I wish I COULD vote for him.

Unfortunately, I am in Frank Ballance's district.
Before him, it was (gag) Eva Clayton.

Oh PULEEZE jern!!!!

I for one appreciate Bob providing all of these quotes in one post. I've heard and read how great Mr. Robinson is but I've not seen most of these quotes from his supporters before.

I only wish I lived in a part of the state where I could cast my vote for him. God knows NC needs more real conservatives as our leaders. I hope by getting elected to Congress it will lead to a much more prominent role for Vernon in future national and state politics.

I am sure that Vernon would love to have anyone volunteer on his campaign. I have done some campaigns, and I know that are always in need of volunteers.

His website is www.robinsonforcongress.com

If you are questioning whether Vernon is conservative, he is.

I heard him on a local talk show and believe me, he is the real thing.

Unfortunately he is in Winston and I am in Raleigh.
