President Bush had an obligation to the Constitution to veto this bill. Yep. Of course, FreeRepublic's resident experts assured me SCOTUS would strike the bad parts down, even as I claimed SCOTUS was too unpredictable to make that assertion.
Bush gambled, and lost.

You would have thought the GOP, or the President at the very least, should have been aware that the Supreme Court no longer considers the Constitution in its rulings.

Bush gambled, and lost.He gambled with my money. He played Russian Roulette with my rights.
He didn't lose my vote, he had to earn it and he never did.

The Supremes almost always uphold campaign finance restrictions on political speech. To be fair, a few who supported his signing of the bill have acknowledged now that it was a mistake.

I was one of the "experts" who made that assertion. If this decision is as bad as the comments so far indicate, I WILL resign from the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, exactly as I said I would if we did not get major parts of this law struck down.
I have been a member of that Bar since 1976. My 18th brief in that Court will be filed on 19 December. But beyond a certain point, any institution can become so corrupt that an honest man can no longer associate with it. Once I have read the opinions in this case, that is probably where I will be, with respect to the Court.
