What is the matter with you, can't you see this is a combination of the Bubonic Plague, Nuclear War and the Heartbreak of Psiriosis all rolled into one?

If I want to personally produce a television advertisement that says the Democrat candidate for President will be dangerous for America, and I personally buy the airtime to show that advertisement on television, if I do this within 60 days of the election, I am in violation of this law. Not if you declare yourself a candidate. ;^)

"This has no affect on your right to speak.Newspeak.
" The NRA can still run NRA ads. They just can't say "Bush." We can still plead our case without mentioning a politicians name."
In case you haven't noticed most folks that toss votes don't have a clue what the politicians are up to, or what they think. They feel and suck in the drivel from leftist publications. Unless those that do have some concern are presented with the truth, they remain ignorant.

" And I guess you are in the fetal position sucking your thumb."
Not at all. I will simply state, somewhere, that I told you so. I am not in "fear" per se. I have a concern that FR will be killed. If you think the ACLU or People for the American Way OR Senator Boxer won't sue to shut down talk radio or FR, you are more naive than a Klinton supporter.

"Anyone here can still walk into a TV station, cut a check from their personal funds and run an attack ad."
True but not everyone here can AFFORD to financially. This is why we rely on representatives for whatever special interest group we belong to to speak for us. And we ALL belong to a special interest group, every single one of us.
And I may be wrong here but even if you do go into a TV station and pay for a political ad, you could come under investigation as to where your money came from and if you belong to any special interest group.

You have absolutely no basis for saying that except your hatred of people who expose posters like you for what you are. You've exposed nothing.
Get somebody to empty your bed pan. It's starting to smell around here.

All future attack ads will be directed against "Some People". The 2004 election is a walkover. The only dividing issue will be which party is most trusted to provide national security. This could go either way, depending on events between now and then, but the CFR law will have no impact.

You haven't seen George Soros give $15 million to front groups dedicated to defeating George Bush? He quite candidly said that is what it was for. Why isn't that soft money? Because it's Move On and not the DNC.And Bush is still kicking their ass in contributions! LOL. Those rich liberals can keep trying, but eventually they'll need money to eat!
They won't starve any time soon. According to Forbes, Soros was worth $5 billion before the recent run-up in stocks. His $15 million initial donation to Move On is chump change to him, less than 0.3% of his total wealth.

How long until a liberal left wing nut sues FR and shuts us down 60 days before the election for "promoting" candidates and "hate speech" against Democrats and other left wingers in general. I have a distinct fear that it is coming down the tracks like an out of control freight train. Not long at all. This law will be a ripe source for political intimidation
I can't believe people here are supporting it
To: JustAnAmerican
Care to tell me what 60 day (no political ads) limit was in effect during davis's recall? Actually, it only affects issue ads by outside groups. Candidates can still run their ads, IIRC. Arnold could run ads himself right up till election day.

I am neither a libertarian nor a liberal however as long as we are assigning names anybody who makes a statement like this: " This is now the law. They'd better get used to it." can, IMHO, be accurately labeled a marxist. LOL. Oh, ouch. That really hurt - NOT!
Sorry if you're dismayed. Can't say I feel your pain, though. I think you're knee jerking a bit.

Can the Candidates run all the ads they want to as long as they pay for it?

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press...
You have three choices, sport:
1) prove that Congress did not pass the so-called 'campaign reform' law in question;
2) prove that political ads do not qualify as "freedom of speech, or of the press;" or
3) prove that a ban on such ads does not 'abridge' our free speech rights.
Worth repeating.

Yes, but since FR is INSIDE THE 9TH CIRCUIT an injuction forcing FR down could be filed and granted quite rapidly. Damn. Offshore hosting maybe?

"Remember your words when Rush, Hannity, Savage, Boortz, etc. all go off the air or talk about breast enlargement or Canadian Baby seals, 60 days before the election"
Under your scenario, so will the New York Times, Wash Compost, CNN, etc.etc.
Actually, you are right. If a media source covers a candidate at all, they are essentially giving him or her free advertising - which has a cash equivalent. So, Campaign Finance reform is the exact same as Media Finance Reform. It really is a far reaching and devastating decision.

Unfortunately, and until it goes into court, I think I'm right. And those that think that the courts won't create rulings to impede a Hannity or Jim Robinson are fools. They will interefere. And they will shut down much of what many participants here took for granted.

Maybe it has escaped your notice but the People not only do NOT march to the beat of the RATmedia but actually seem to go the other way. Look at the California recall. EVERY position of the RATmedia was rejected OVERWHELMINGLY.
I realize it is difficult to believe but the Sheeple appear to be waking up and the day of RATmedia control is ending.
