I have corresponded directly with LTC West on several occassions. He is planning to retire.

And, he prevented casualties in the deadliest month possible, while Mike Ware of TIME magazine partied with a similar group of terrorists while they attacked our boys for 3 weeks, then filing an anti US propaganda piece widely praised today.
What's wrong here?

I don't know if this is really good news, or merely a tactical retreat from a horrible blunder by the commanding officer.
What happens when a Colonel gets a written reprimand? Doesn't that pretty much end his chances for further promotion? If so, then I still consider this to be a major injustice. The reprimand should go into the file of the general who approved this unjust process.

They have to back off because of public opinion and pol consequences. State is saddened.
The 10,000 lawyers assigned to the military must now look for others to make an example of.

The Letter of Reprimand is P.C. chicken shit in the extreme..
This will have the effect of forcing some "officers" to be more concerned about the "rights of prisoner" than the lives of their troops..
Col. West did the right thing, for the right reason, for the right folks...
He has earned our gratitude and respect....NOT a letter of reprimand.

Damn shame. He might have gone on to become a fine flag officer (ballsy one at that).

Yep. In NJ, after the profiling witch hunt, State Troopers simply stopped pulling suspicious people over. And the people get screwed.

Reprimand - as in Article 15?
Sounds like it. But I think he was just trying to keep his pension. Bastards.
To: The KG9 Kid
No em dropped a dime, he reported the incident himself.
His CG did nothing at the time, because he thought it was a minor incident.
Some staff weenie sitting in an office in downtown Baghdad reviewed the record and recommended action be taken.
You basic racist REMF going after a combat officer.
As far as his getting the the reprimand, his career was shot when the "the white racist" REMF, decided to take him down.

Waiting for confirmation.O'Reilly had Col. West's attorney on his show, and he more or less confirmed it He said the Army was going NJP him, which almost certainly means he'll get a letter of reprimand placed in his personnel file.

See my #35. I am awaiting confirmation via email from LTX West himself. but, given the qyotes of his wife and lawyer, I have to believe this is the real deal.
IMHO, sounds like the 4th ID CO figured it out, albeit belatedly. This should never have gone as far as it did and I only hope it has not effected the moral and willingness for other CO's to do what must be done over there.
To: xzins
I am afraid he will carry this in his 201 file and he will probably retire as soon as he has enough years in grade. Promotion may not come along. Good luck and Godspeed Col.

If I had some moola, I'd take out a full page in the Slimes to expose this crap for what it is.
