letters of reprimand are usually put in your performance fiche-(disk now, I guess)so that it's automatically seen during promotion review...if it was UCMJ action (Article 15), it could be filed in a restricted fiche, and not be disclosed at a promotion board...but at the field grade and above, none of this stuff would be hidden- Fox News will probably pick this guy up...someone didn't watch his 6...

Excuse me. I hate to interject any facts in this love fest for the rule breaker. But West himself reported the incident. He reported that he stood by and allowed his men to beat the prisoner and then he himself fired his gun near the man's head.

Would you have preferred that the process was ignored and they patted him on the head and sent him on his way?

Col. West did the right thing, for the right reason, for the right folks...
He has earned our gratitude and respect....NOT a letter of reprimand.

I think the good Col might disagree with that.
He is a professional; an officer with a brain. He knows the rules and when to break them.

He also knows that there are consequences. He, unlike other shrill voices here, is aware that being a robot with a manual is not the true role of leadership.
