The Buffalo branch of the F.B.I. confirms the news with Channel 2: that they are aware of a known Al-Qaeda website that posted a picture of Niagara Falls. A picture that was taken at night from high above, facing the American side of Niagara Falls.

NBC News is reporting that the F.B.I. is concerned about the picture, and the fact that a picture of Niagara Falls was posted on a known Al-Qaeda website.

The web address of that Al-Qaeda website is based somewhere in the United Kingdom, and is no longer an active Internet link.

Channel 2 News tried logging on to that website, but an error page popped up every time.

According to NBC News, there are pictures of known hijackers and familiar Al-Qaeda images on the website.

There were a number of different image files on that Al-Qaeda website, including the following file names:

“Atta Group.”

“Flight 11 Seating.”

“Department of Mayhem.”

“Surprise.”

“Bin Laden.”

And the one file name that is causing concern within the FBI here at home:

“NiagraFallsatnight,Canada.jpg,” with the file name not adding the letter “a” to correctly spell “Niagara.”

According to NBC News, the F.B.I. is troubled by the addition of the Niagara Falls picture on the known Al-Qaeda website, and that the F.B.I. is studying the image for any potential secret messages embedded in the photo, who posted it, and why?

“I doubt very much that Al-Qaeda is carrying out tourist trips to Niagara Falls. The odds are much more likely that it is the subject of potential targeting for Al-Qaeda,” said NBC News Terrorism Analyst Steve Emerson.

Channel 2 News did talk to Buffalo F.B.I. Spokesman Paul Moskal about our story. He released this statement:

“Nationally and internationally, the F.B.I. has not received any information indicating any person, group, or location within any area in Western New York, that is being targeted by Al-Qaeda,” said Moskal in his statement.

If you'd asked me about it on September 10'th, 2001 or so, I'd have agreed that they were almost certainly incapable of a broad, coordinated attack. Nowadays, as much as I'd still like to believe that, the fates have a way of punishing folks who get all fat and sassy - common sense demands a certain prudence.

I'm not sure .. but what about if they put some kind of poison in the water over the falls .. where does that water go and could they put enough poison into the water to create a problem ..??

Or...knock out the Mohawk station and then hit it with a dirty bomb. So the power would be out, couldn't repair the station for a while...and (I think) the radiation would have an adverse effect on the water supply. A triple threat.

No surprise our biggest enemy within is working in conjunction with our biggest enemies without (they always have been, that's why the money always materialized as needed to catapult the poor white trashbags from nothing to the road to the White House!). 9/11/2001 happened because the west allowed a network to grow unchecked in places like Afghanistan they could set up bases and coordinate troops and movements and plans... that doesn't exist anymore... there is no coordinated effort or attack.... when terrorists are pressured by states all they have is uncoordinated attacks...

As I said look at Israel, the terrorists rarely do more than disruptive acts, because even though they are engraned in their societies they don't have the capacity to pull it off.

9/11/2001 was the result of a president more interested in his winky than national security, a security and foreign policy based on 1960s radicalism and frankly a flying public that had been told for years, just sit back and survive if your plane had been hijacked....

It will never happen again. The "lone wolf" is really all they have left, independent cells acting on their own... which never results in anything more than disruption at best.... sure there could be a dirty nuke blown up somewhere or a chemical or biological release somewhere, but there is no coordinated attack nationwide... just sand gnats hopign for some PR to keep thier organization from completely collapsing.

Actually it would be more than just a blackout if they took out the Water Intake Tunnels.

First, to do it would require a huge amount of explosives (And you are right they "PROBABLY" Don;t have the capability - or maybe they do have a suitcase nuke). So there would be massive devestation to the City of Niagara Falls.

Capability aside, Let's continue the "what if" game though. If they did succeed in taking out the intakes, The Moses Plant would be dead for months if not years. The largest power production plant in the NE, finished.

Sure, the blackout would probably only be a few days until things got rerouted and straightened out. BUT, you now have the largest power producer gone on an already overloaded, antiquated, wildly unstable power grid.

Is this type of attack likely? - no, possible? - probably not. But, if it did happen the initial social chaos would be tremendous, the economic impact would be huge, and with the power grid already teetering on collapse -- blackouts would become a daily if not hourly occurance.

Please have some faith in your fellow americans. These sand gnats don't have a prayer of ever doing anything significant in terms of a true threat to our nation or way of life.. and they know it.

They don't have the capacity to take out the power plants... neither in terms of firepower or frankly ability. Its chicken little doomsday nonsense. Should we work to prevent it from happening ? Sure, but its not the "end of the world" if it does.

The reality is simple folks, the terrorist can hurt us individually, but they don't have a prayer of destroying our nation or way of life.. Even if they managed a dirty nuke in the heart of manhatten, or say a small pox release there... and it killed 100,000 or even 1,000,000 people before it was contained... do you really think the United States of America, or the western way of life is going anywhere?

Be serious. They are a threat to us individually, yes, but they are not a threat in the least to our society... they don't have the capacity to be that, and they know it. THey prey on our fears, nothing more. They are bugs, and they will be squished under our heals... its really that simple.

Last week, there was a story about 'new' video footage of the towers being struck which was loaded onto a terrorist website. The video was previously only known to the FBI - how did AQ get a hold of it? Since that was not so long ago, I think the image of Niagra Falls on the website now is quite alarming.
