PICTURE OF NIAGARA FALLS APPEARS ON AL-QAEDA WEBSITE

The Buffalo branch of the F.B.I. confirms the news with Channel 2: that they are aware of a known Al-Qaeda website that posted a picture of Niagara Falls. A picture that was taken at night from high above, facing the American side of Niagara Falls.

NBC News is reporting that the F.B.I. is concerned about the picture, and the fact that a picture of Niagara Falls was posted on a known Al-Qaeda website.

The web address of that Al-Qaeda website is based somewhere in the United Kingdom, and is no longer an active Internet link.

Channel 2 News tried logging on to that website, but an error page popped up every time.

According to NBC News, there are pictures of known hijackers and familiar Al-Qaeda images on the website.

There were a number of different image files on that Al-Qaeda website, including the following file names:

“Atta Group.”

“Flight 11 Seating.”

“Department of Mayhem.”

“Surprise.”

“Bin Laden.”

And the one file name that is causing concern within the FBI here at home:

“NiagraFallsatnight,Canada.jpg,” with the file name not adding the letter “a” to correctly spell “Niagara.”

According to NBC News, the F.B.I. is troubled by the addition of the Niagara Falls picture on the known Al-Qaeda website, and that the F.B.I. is studying the image for any potential secret messages embedded in the photo, who posted it, and why?

“I doubt very much that Al-Qaeda is carrying out tourist trips to Niagara Falls. The odds are much more likely that it is the subject of potential targeting for Al-Qaeda,” said NBC News Terrorism Analyst Steve Emerson.

Channel 2 News did talk to Buffalo F.B.I. Spokesman Paul Moskal about our story. He released this statement:

“Nationally and internationally, the F.B.I. has not received any information indicating any person, group, or location within any area in Western New York, that is being targeted by Al-Qaeda,” said Moskal in his statement.

They could easily hide something in a pic using steganography, but I doubt they'd put something out there so blatant/obvious.

Agree, if not stenography it is more likely code for something else not Niagra Falls.

No, but there are large power plants on each side of the falls. Knocking out the Niagara Mohawk Power Station would induce a blackout.

I thought they tried that back in August. Oh wait, never mind. That outage was caused by a downed tree limb in France.

The one that ought to be named the Tesla Power Station but somehow got named Consolidated Edison?

Ditto to your above post. I sure hope it doesn't involve the Skylon Towers, where I think the photo was taken from. I know the family that owns it.

Tesla brought alternating current 300 miles to NYC from Niagara. The best Edison could do was direct current about 30 miles.

The Robert Moses Power Facility which supplies most of the power to NY State is just a couple miles from Niagara Falls.

There are 2 HUGE UNDERGROUND Water pipelines (I am talking 10-20 story High Pipelines) Directly under the City of Niagara falls. If you look at the picture and follow the river above the falls that is where the Pipelines start. These pipes supply ALL OF THE WATER that is used for the Power Generation Plants.

Take out those Pipelines and you have completely shut down power Generation for the entire Northeast Quadrant.

Is THAT a high profile enough target?

Now that I review the photo it's too up river to be shot from the Skylon. Maybe Minolta Towers?

...not like they are going to do anything other than a blackout if they do something to it...

A BIG blackout. A single $2 electrical switch at Niagara Falls failed in 1965, and left 25 million people in the dark - imagine what happens if you destroy or seriously damage it.

On 9/11/01, the New York State Police and the FBI shut down the Robert Moses Parkway leading to and from the Falls, and the Falls themselves, because they were afraid that the power generating facilities were also a target - shut down Niagara Falls, and you'll have just about everyone from Ontario to Virginia in the dark. By itself it might be "lame", but as part of a multi-pronged attack, that's a different story. First you turn out the lights, then you start hitting targets while everyone's running around trying to figure out what the hell's going on...

Blowing up Damns? Hmmm... well, if that's their intent they better get their technology a lot higher than what they have... an RPG isn't going to do squat to an earthen damn, let alone a reinforced concrete damn.

Hell even a 777 fully laden with fuel wouldn't do squat against the large type damns.... might be able to do something with some of the smaller flood control damns, but large scale? They are dreaming if that's their plan.
