The Buffalo branch of the F.B.I. confirms the news with Channel 2: that they are aware of a known Al-Qaeda website that posted a picture of Niagara Falls. A picture that was taken at night from high above, facing the American side of Niagara Falls.

NBC News is reporting that the F.B.I. is concerned about the picture, and the fact that a picture of Niagara Falls was posted on a known Al-Qaeda website.

The web address of that Al-Qaeda website is based somewhere in the United Kingdom, and is no longer an active Internet link.

Channel 2 News tried logging on to that website, but an error page popped up every time.

According to NBC News, there are pictures of known hijackers and familiar Al-Qaeda images on the website.

There were a number of different image files on that Al-Qaeda website, including the following file names:

“Atta Group.”

“Flight 11 Seating.”

“Department of Mayhem.”

“Surprise.”

“Bin Laden.”

And the one file name that is causing concern within the FBI here at home:

“NiagraFallsatnight,Canada.jpg,” with the file name not adding the letter “a” to correctly spell “Niagara.”

According to NBC News, the F.B.I. is troubled by the addition of the Niagara Falls picture on the known Al-Qaeda website, and that the F.B.I. is studying the image for any potential secret messages embedded in the photo, who posted it, and why?

“I doubt very much that Al-Qaeda is carrying out tourist trips to Niagara Falls. The odds are much more likely that it is the subject of potential targeting for Al-Qaeda,” said NBC News Terrorism Analyst Steve Emerson.

Channel 2 News did talk to Buffalo F.B.I. Spokesman Paul Moskal about our story. He released this statement:

“Nationally and internationally, the F.B.I. has not received any information indicating any person, group, or location within any area in Western New York, that is being targeted by Al-Qaeda,” said Moskal in his statement.

There is extremely tight security around Niagara Falls. My son-in-law took his family there last summer, and said there was security everywhere. They had to show their credentials several times.

But he also said that the crowds are horrific, esp. in summer, so maybe these Al Quaeda punks think they can slip through.

I hope someone spots them in time and shoves them over the Falls.

It could be code, or maybe as others say, the Power plants. Who know? There are those who think they were responsible for our power outages in NY etc. They took credit for them.

Well, anytime anything happens anymore, they are going to take credit for it. I'm waiting for the Al Q press release stating that the earthquake(s) on the east coast were their responsibility, lol.

I just don't think they'd be so blatant as throw up a picture of something they are going to attack, except to try and scare people or make them jump to conclusions (and thereby divert their attention).

The government is in a bad situation right now - anytime anything like this happens, they have to take it seriously, or at least check it out, otherwise if something did happen and they had ignored the warning signs, you could have more Americans dead and a lot of government officials losing their jobs (yes, I've known politicians who cared more about their jobs than the American people). The FBI/CIA/etc. got a "get out of jail free" card with 9/11, if something else happens that could have been prevented, a lot of bureaucrats' heads will roll.

I stretched the original jpg to 600x450 and came out with 33 kb. It's not much of a difference and could just be due to the program I used versus other software. If there is something hidden via stego it has to be a small file like a simple text document. I'm sure the FBI is checking this out very carefully.

There are several hits, and two separate sites on which this jpg appears. One is UAE related, the other, Pakistani. The Pakistani site poster, JaanJaogay, also posted a picture elsewhere titled Bin Laden Airlines, in a file he calls funnypictures:

I was thinking along similar lines. What stood out to me in one of their rants was their threat to divide the US into 3 parts. It seemed they meant CONUS, and whatever they had in mind would disrupt communications.
