November 25, 2003 -- A sneak-attack caller yesterday launched Rush Limbaugh into a defense against charges he was a hypocrite for demanding tough sentences for drug users while he himself was taking black-market pain killers. "It's not hypocritical because my behavior doesn't determine the value of right and wrong - nobody's does," Limbaugh told listeners.

all calls are screened. Limbaughs biggest sin is not drug use it is that he is boring. A modern day knock-off of Father Conglin.

"Are you saying that Rush is a hypocrite because the Scriptures say we are all sinners until saved? Or something along those lines."
No, if you read my post, I was responding to a statement about an Ayn Rand book. I gave a better source for her point. I was also using it as a means of giving a chance at eternal life, to sinners!
I AM saying that Rush is a hypocrite because he asks everyone to forgive him, while continuing to justify his actions "because he did not understand why he was doing those things (my paraphrase)" or similar ridiculous statements, UNTIL HE WAS IN REHAB. If he was as smart as he claims to be (and i do not doubt he is smart), and able to perform his radio show, without problems, then he must be a hypocrite. He knew he was doing wrong. Admitting it, in the light of discovery, does not make him honest, just caught!
I like the guy, I listen to the guy, but I do think that this is hypocritical. I have smoked hemp, and eaten peyote. I do not regret it, and do not state so, though they were illegal drugs (though naturally obtained). I contend the WOD is a farce, and a waste of people (to hell with the money wasted). I have cringed when he has made repeated reference to "pot-smoking, maggot infested" people, implying a GENERALIZATION of characteristics, with the leftist creeps, and castigating/demeaning those smoking hemp.
Please explain to me why his past statements should not now be recognized, as hypocritical! Because he admitted them, after exposure by others. What if he had been arrested, and jailed?
To justify him by saying he hasn't done it lately, is no different than to justify any other immoral or illegal act, after the fact! It still was wrong. He admits the wrong action, but he denies that he really knew what he was doing. It was the drugs!
I believe it was Rush, aware of what he was doing, and doing it because he wanted to do it. I believe he hid because he wanted to continue. I believe he stopped because he got caught. If you believe and accept him in this denial, you join yourself to that hypocricy...

Now its 15 million listeners? What happened to the missing 5 million?
I think it is telling that all CNN stories about rush have come from miami. (despite the fact that the case in Palm Beach is 90 miles away) I believe the maid's lawyer is officed in miami.
The seminar callers are back. They will just install a longer transmission delay.

"Whatever I did I did, but it doesn't change what right and wrong are." OK Rush, now report to the penitentiary to serve your time and you can talk about it from there without being a hypocrite.

I am sure there are a lot of parents out there who do not want their kids doing some of the stupid things they did as kids. Does that make them hypocrites? Yep. If they advocate prison for the same crimes they committed without going to prison. And Rush is no kid, he just stopped doing the drugs now. (maybe)

"If I were to admit I'm a hypocrite, then I'm going to be disqualified from being able to say what I think is right and wrong. "I'm not going to let anybody take that away from me," he said. You are the worlds biggest hypocrite Rush, right up there with but I didnt inhale Bubba Clinton! If you were a man of your word, you would go to the local police station right now, confess everything and demand to be put in jail for your crimes!
But no, you are another in a long line of lyin, two-faced as****** who sit on high and pronounce judgment on the rest of us mere mortals while you act worse than most and always escape the consequences of your actions because you are flithy stinkin rich and people like that don't go to jail in America, go figure.
Rush Limbaugh makes me vomit. He is a paid clown and a fraud! Do you people think a true conservative would act the way Rush has??? Yeah all the conservatives I know are dope addicts, yeah, uh huh. LOL Its ALL an ACT people, Rush is ACTING on the radio, period.
OTOH, in his real life, Rush is just like any other left-wing actor \ rock star \ Hollywood entertainer puke, a lyin dope addict that weasels out of any jail time or punishment of any kind for his crimes because he is rich and famous!
I highly doubt that Rush has truly kicked the junk he is addicted to in one short month and I sure as heck won't take his word for it like the members of the Church of Rush do.
His cult followers will probably help Rush into an early grave with their mindless worship of everything he says and does.
To bad Rush couldn't act like a man and take the punishment he himself said all drug users should take. Instead we get Rush the lyin, hypocrite, Hollywood puke, thumbing his nose at the law and laughing all the way to the bank, while people like Tommy Chong rot in jail for making glass pipes!
You can buy ANYTHING in America if you got the money, just ask Rush Limbaugh, Michael Jackson, or Ken Lay!
This is the TRUE philosophy of Rush Limbaugh:
HE WHO HAS THE GOLD MAKES THE RULES!
Anything else he says is a lie, actions speak louder than words.
To: LucyJo
Of course he has used it recently. Remember when Saddam's torture happy sons assumed room temperature.
You are just bashing to bash. Perhaps you would be more comfortable in some other forum system where democrat party members roam free in a preserve.
To: kattracks
What Rush says is true....but with a caveat...and that is imo can a hypocrite be an honest appraiser of what right and wrong ...at least in the area of 'his' hypocricy...?
We get back to the issue...that even Rush had with Clinton...and that is "does character count?"

"Whatever I did I did, but it doesn't change what right and wrong are."
A good quote. It is factual, but it skirts the basic issue...
Do you remember 'Flip" Wilson? He made the statement... "the devil made me do it..." famous.
Rush claims he was a VICTIM of his addiction and now "he understands why de did those things". I do not believe is not a victim, but contend he is a hypocrite, though he (and his posse) vehemently denies it.
He is a wordsmith. He knows which words will work, in any given situation... and they are sure working here!

Yes, true, he stopped because he got caught. Although I am sure a day of reckoning was coming, no matter what. It may still be coming.
And being addicted is not an excuse either, for Rush. If it was an excuse for him, then addiction must equally be an excuse for the heroin and crack addicts of our inner cities (slums, we used to call them).
However, if Rush is ultimately honest about all this, and does his best to right any wrongs he may have committed, then I will not particularly view him as a hypocrit.
I guess I am witholding personal judgement for now.
Yeah, I like him too.

Mr. Limbaugh may owe you an apology, but not I. He did absolutely no harm to me or mine. I am sure in his "amends process" he will issue apologies and take appropriate actions for those he has harmed, but I sure don't expect to be one of them nor in his place would "I" feel that my listeners needed an apology. He has already admitted that he screwed up. I am just ready to keep listening to the message he delivers so powerfully.

I think I have a pretty good grasp of what is "right" and what is "wrong". But it doesn't mean I "always" do what is "right".
There are folks in this world that do not understand, nor do they know what is "right" and what is "wrong". I think that's a given.
There are also people in this world...that know ( maybe it's deep down inside..or maybe not..) what is "right" and what is "wrong"...but do what they "do" anyway. For whatever reasons............................

Bill Cliinton raised his right hand and lied under oath. (never mind raising his right hand and taking the bar oath or oath of office.)
Where did rush lie about his addiction. He certainly did not lie to himself as evidenced by this two prior failed attempts.
As for buying the pills illegally, to date there is zero evidence to that effect. My experience has been that if the Palm Beach Prosecutor really had a possession case, they would have prosecuted by now.
The article seems more a smear effort. Particularly the bootstrapping ambiguity over the two year old story of about Rush's paycheck.
To: dwilli
Will you feel the same way if Roy Black is cutting a deal with the Florida prosecuters as we post? I have the feeling that is what is going on.
I am wondering why you hate Rush so much. I am wondering about your motives. I guess you are saying that no one has a right to voice a conservative point of view unless they are a holy living saint pure as the driven snow, with not a single character fault or weakness.
To: pageonetoo
You must be listening to a different radio program. Rush has repeatedly say he was NOT a victim and he has repeatedly stated he was taking responsibility for himself and his actions.
Rush has publicly acted in compliance with this beliefs. Rush, in the face of his personal failing, has acted in compliance with those beliefs.
Those who seem to call him a hypocrite are more in tune with a DNC / Sid Blumthal talking points than reality.
The goal of this article and others to come is to creat a smear campaign. Here they put in the "laundering" charge without details regading the banks failing. They throw ing the seminar caller, when in fact he was barely audible.
Seems those who would LABEL him, are those who want to bring him down off the airwaves.
To: Protagoras
I don't listen to Rush every day, although I often do, and usually enjoy it.
I did hear him, a couple months ago, being extemely critical of GW for embracing Democrat style legislating and programs.
And he was taking a lot of heat from his callers.
Isn't Walter Williams, whom he often asks to be a guest host, somewhat of a libertarian?
