The Palestine and the Sheraton Hotel Coordinated attack. When this breaking news alert came on I was on the Daleel site and was reading a message that was posted 11/18/03 and stated:
Eid which will be in the name of god. Two Eids together.
What is eid in islam?

RPG's "max effective" range is supposed to be 350-400 meters for aimed fire.
As you said, they could hit a large building at their maximum range of 800 meters or so.

The IDF has an excellent point, but after discussing this with someone well-versed in military affairs I learned that using armor in Iraq would be highly impractical due to the nature of the mission there and the need for troop mobility without concern for vehicle weight, enormous fuel costs, etc. If armor is what is needed, then the nature of the U.S. occupation will have to change and there will longer be the same level of troop presence "out and about" among the Iraqi public.

Thank God, It looks like no serious injuries in these latest attacks. the more ou warriors coduct operations like "Iron Hammer" the more we will see these attacks slow down. We are winning, it will just take a while for the Press to be forced to admit it and start reporting it

Well, the IDF view is that the first goal should be safeguarding troops there. The armor they are talking about are specifically really Jeeps - armored Jeeps. IDF uses these in the territories successfully and it is rare that they have casualties when the soldiers are in those vehicles.

TACTIC FOR STUPID RPG SHOOTING ISLAMAFASCIST:
Drive M1-A1A Abrams tanks down street. Ignore PC protestors and journalists. Wait for stupid RPG shooting Islamafascists to open fire with pellet guns and grenades. Notice from whence came RPG and AK47 rounds that bounced off of your tank (what was that Sarge?) Proceed to rotate turret in that direction. Fire. Any questions?

I believe (as a person just mentioned) it is a special holiday at the end of Ramadan, and I *think* Muslims give presents then. That could be not good.
To: yonif
I think the difference between the two situations is that the IDF operates in an overtly hostile environment, while the U.S. is acting under the assumption that an open presence in a mostly "accepting" environment will work best. Maybe we are simply pretending here, but if the U.S. starts to think of itself as "under fire from substantial hostile elements" to any degree, then there is no reason to keep the troops in there anyway. At that point, the only recourse is to lay waste to large sections of these cities in a dramatic show of force.

It's all about publicity and propaganda. What better places to hit than the hotels housing the press. The attacks feed into the impression that Iraq is in chaos.
