Shame on FOX NEws
My TV | Me

Posted on 11/19/2003 6:27:32 AM PST by Hillary's Folly

Okay, so it's a stupid vanity that probably won't last 10 seconds, but I have to say shame on Fox news, their post Bush speech coverage is the lamest on TV this morning, they jumped to this stupid Michael Jackson nonsense almost immediately and now have some roundtable going on this subject instead of on the speech of our age. They're beginning to look more like the FOX network to me.

My email to those at FOX from earlier:

Enough with the Lacy/Kobe tabloid format. You have been my only news channel, but the incessant coverage
of these two events is completely worn out, and borders on voyeurism. There are more interesting things to
talk about. Please! Besides, none of these people can get a fair and objective trial with all the coverage given.
If this persists, every trial will require gag orders and sequestered juries. I can not believe enough people are
interested in these two cases to warrant the coverage they get. A mistrial verdict in either of these cases will
be directly the result of too much media coverage.

Regards,

reply from David Asman:

I hear you. I sent this on to the news director. Thanks
David

reply from Linda Vester (automated):

Hi there, it's Linda -- thank you for your email. I appreciate that you
took time out to comment on the show -- and thanks for watching DaySide.
Kind regards,
Linda Vester
Anchor, "DaySide"
Fox News Channel

reply from Rodger Ailes:

All emails to Mr. Ailes are being screened and tracked and he may not read your email for quite some time, if at all.

No other replies, but funny they are now questioning excessive coverage of these cases as they excessivly cover these cases.

The least they could do is get back on Scott Ritter.

Turned on CNN after the speech because I wasn't interested in Michael Jackson and I don't get MSNBC.

CNN discussed the speech and then brought in two European commentators to give their two cents. A French guy and a German guy. Both dissed the speech as on-sided. They had not one good word to say about it. CNN took that as gospel for all of Europe.

As much as I hate the tabloid coverage of Fox, I'd rather hear tabloid some of the time than Bush Bashing 24/7.

Conservatives need meat and potatos, fluffy desserts leave us unsatisfied and turned off.

Part of their programming must be for empty headed liberals that eat up mindless fluff pieces. While Michael and Lacy are sad cases, they sure take a back seat when most peoples attention is on vitally important national and international matters effecting everyone.

Sad commentary if this is true. And I have no reason to doubt you.

Makes me wonder who is doing the producing/editing about what gets broadcast.

Poor taste.

At least you have the option to watch FNN. Sadly, we Americans living in Canada have to do without it. I get to watch one hour per week, Fox News Sunday, Fox channel 29 out of Rochester. Sad, 'eh?'

Ditto! I am in Sweden and last weekend FINALLY got a satellite dish that offered Fox News. (Whoohoo--easy for you guys to complain when you have other access to news that isn't leftcentric and anti-US!!! :)
And though I am excited (thrilled!) to have a choice besides BBC World (drivel and filth), they shut me down from 6 PM to midnight, so all I get is the overnights and up to 11 EST everyday. Maybe Fox will catch on more (it was only introduced here in March, and was only supposed to be on during the actual war--but now it is a permanent, if half day, channel) and I can see Brit!! I miss him so!

Yeah when I heard about this raid last night, the first thing I thought of was how all the people here complaining about the Peterson case had gotten their wish that it be surpassed in the news. Now what was that about be careful about what one wishes for?

Well, the Jackson thing still has legs. He hasn't been arrested yet. They can show him being taken away in handcuffs, but after that, the networks should cool it except for the occasional 'Michael sitting in court in an orange suit' shot. I don't mind a sentence or paragraph here or there, but when they beat it to death with round tables, composing their own music, etc, then I get annoyed and change the channel.

"the speech of our age."

The speech of our age? I think this is a bit of an overstatement, but okay.

Fox is really getting bad with the tabloid crap. It's nonstop and all day long. Kobe and Lacy do not warrant 6 hours of daily coverage and analysis. It's pathetic and is telling of what many Americans are interested in...celeb worship and gossip mongering. Leave that crap to E!

I hate to say it but most Americans could care less about what's really going on in the world and don't want to understand what events are shaping the world we live in.

I miss real news. I mean in depth reporting on national and international events and issues. Not just talk shows about a particularly lurid story but actual, comprehensive NEWS that provides the full details of the events. Political, financial, war, science, etc...

(sigh) Oh well...

Ditto, here. It's the Jerry Springer/car wreck effect. But just because it gets them ratings doesn't make it right. Or watchable.

Good for you! I've made requests to Rogers Cable (Toronto) and to the CRTC with no results. They make some argument about 'lack of Canadian content' for not broadcasting FNN. There's no way around this as in the past. In fact, it is now illegal to subscribe to DirectTV in Canada. What a bunch of hosers.

Wow, that sounds extremely lame. Sorry! I know I have been here off and on for three years and have been absolutely media deprived! When I came back here, it was March and I had to wait two months for an internet account, and only had BBC world. Needless to say, I missed the war, as I could watch that nasty channel for about two minutes before I began screaming at the tv.

I am personally tired of cable news channels interrupting their programming every time big brother (clinton or bush) speaks in public. This started during 2nd clinton term on CNBC, where huge amounts of programming time was interrupted to carry some silly speech which wouldn't have anything newsworthy or surprising in it, and has continued with bush.

If I want to hear a politician talk I can turn to cspan. Otherwise I prefer cable news channels to try to attend to news, rather than just be cspan-III, IV, V, etc...

I wish they would move Brit Hume to prime time on the East Coast, I'd rather see him than Greta or O'Reilly. And Cavuto is good also, and fiery in a refined way.

BBC is surely awful, but have you watched CNN Int'l lately? That network is warped beyond belief. BTW, I gave up screaming at the tube long ago. Reduces life expectancy.
Try a nice California Zin instead.
