12:00 EST Monday, November 17th - Rush returns - Welcome Back!
As you well know, I didn't do this. I haven't referenced your brother or those trying to help him at all. What I did do was report the origin and root purpose of psychology, which was invented by Freud to replace pastor care. He is the one who called his therapists "secular priests." He was the one who created them to replace church pastors. Your quarrel, and that of others who feel they have benefitted from secular therapy, is with Freud, not me.
I urge all Freepers who doubts this account to do their own research. Just be sure to read Freud's own writing in unabridged form.
I am extremely hesitant to judge the spiritual condition of another who claims Jesus as his/her Lord. Often, some of those who are weakest appearing have the most submitted hearts, which is why God used a tax collector, a Pharisee, and a couple of drunken brawlers to advance His kingdom.
Actually, I thought he was saying that *he* wasn't/isn't able to make *her* happy and not the other way around. Hopefully, we're all wrong and there is no problem with their relationship. I haven't read the whole thread because I just walked in the door, so I may be repeating something already stated here. I did listen to the whole show, though.
Well, he admitted that he took the drugs "because he liked it", and said he was introduced to a new pain medication and some therapy while in rehab. Still, he indicated that surgery will most likely be required to address the pain at some point, but the problem is that the surgery requires moving the larynx out of the way and Rush is fearful of the 2% chance that something could go wrong and affect his livelihood.
FReegards...MUD
I read all your posts. From them, I concluded that you didn't like Rush even before the events of the last several weeks. I suggested that your posting history would bear this out. Let's see if I was right, shall we?

Rush is finished, sad to say.

I hate to say this, I really do, but Clinton would clobber Rush. Rush is not a good debater. There have been several instances over the years of sharp liberals getting the best of him.

I don't know a thing about football, but I'm guessing this was an error of possibly staggering magnitude.
So much for Rush's career as an ESPN footbal commentator.

Roger should have the noon-3 spot. Superior to Rush, clearly.
That is only a sample of your posts on Rush in the last two years. One might wonder why you apparently feel compelled to go on threads and criticize him.
Christ also never told anyone to get MRIs, go into chemotherapy, have liver transplants, etc.
You cannot separate "mental health" from "physical health", unless you want to attempt to argue that the brain is not an organ of the body. Either all medical advances have been alloted to us by God, or we should all just pray whenever we get sick and forsake all of modern medicine. Which is it?
As you know, I was outlining the biblical alternative to twelve-step programs.
Get a copy of the Big Book and read the founders' take on this. Bill W. and Dr. Bob were both serious Christians and had tried the prayer cure many times. Didn't work. Historically, religiously motived recoveries from alcoholism were rare enough to fall into the category of miracle cures, and they were certainly not clinically reproducible. (Or there would be few or no drunk ministers and priests, which we know ain't the case.) AA offered a technique that worked better than anything else yet devised.
Similarly, most of the other early AA's were also at least nominally Christian. (This was 1930's America.) Early AA was much more religious -- and overtly Christian -- than it is today. Over time however, as AA accumulated experience and developed a positive track record, it was recognized that plenty of non-religious and minority-religion folks became drunks the same way as Christians, and got sober the same way too. It was recognized that issues of religion should not be allowed to become an impediment to seeking sobriety.
The accompanying assumption was that progress toward sobriety tended to correlate with spiritual progress as well. This is true whatever the religious heritage and/or destination of the recovering alcoholic. Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and atheists get sober too. The religious expression of any particular AA group will depend on the locality. That's all.
I think you are picking an artificial fight on this point. Go to an open AA meeting and ask about it if this still bothers you.
