You haven't caught up yet -- but I'll play devils advocate for a moment. Just to clearly state my side -- I want Islam to be defeated which is our true enemy. Until we recognize that the country has no choice but to gradually erode freedoms in a never-ending battle of contrition.
Ammendments I (religion) II (right to bear arms), IV (unreasonable searches and seizures), VI (prosecution), VIII (bail), X (state rights) XIV (naturalized citizens) could all be under assault if the acts of terrorism escalate to the point of a plauge threatens the country. It might be temporarily set aside but set aside none the less and probably to the support of most Americans (i.e. searching every white van in DC on the interstate for a sniper that wasn't even driving a white van).

I don't believe citizens should lose their Constitutional rights any more than I believe the so-called "Constitutional" argument being made FOR the foreign terrorists held at Gitmo.
No portion of the Consitution has ever been "temporarily set aside". Changes are and were permanent even before 9/11/01 whether Consitutitional or not.
