Northwest Worker Sentenced for Incident
Associated Press
DETROIT - A Northwest Airlines flight attendant who spiked a toddler's apple juice with an anti-anxiety drug to stop her crying was sentenced Wednesday to four months of home confinement. Daniel Cunningham, 39, of Ann Arbor, pleaded guilty in May to federal charges that included assault and distribution of a controlled substance on an aircraft. The incident was discovered by the 19-month-old girl's mother, who took the juice off the Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight last August after noticing that it was bitter and foamy and had blue and white specks floating in it. Turner had it analyzed by a laboratory, which confirmed the presence of Xanax, which is prescribed for panic attacks and anxiety, the FBI said. The drug can cause drowsiness and lightheadedness. The girl suffered no serious injury. Cunningham was fired by Northwest. Federal sentencing guidelines called for zero to four months' in prison. |

"What's a two-month old going to do at a funeral?"Perhaps the mother is breast feeding. Perhaps the parents couldn't find someone to take care of it on such short notice.

What's a two-month old going to do at a funeral? Nurse from the mother's breast.

And why should parents make excuses for traveling with their children, what ever the reason?

A crying baby on an airplane will become an unruly teenager? You've got a lot to learn about kids.
What do you think of teachers giving "unruly" students a little hit of ritalin? (rhetorical)

OK, an idiot to be sure, but there have been times when flying cross country red-eyes with 2 or 3 screaming lil 'uns behind me that I was wishing someone would do something like this. Good intentions, poor execution.

Fine, I will. I am a grandmother.
But, I do have a nice black dress that shows cleavage and a really nice set of pearls.
Now where is my digital camera?
LOL

Kids and babies are part of what makes life what it is. bump to that. would add that seeing misbehaved spoiled brats run wild and pitiful newborns whose mom's are too busy reading Cosmo should be a life lesson as to how to NOT raise kids. Don't understand how parents can be so uncaring or unconcerned.

"if I have a choice of sitting next to a colicky baby or a drunk guy on his way to Vegas, I'll take the baby.. "
I agree with that as well.

"The subject of this thread seems to be children who carry on for a very long time and parents who either can't or won't do anything about it. " Exactly. Consideration is a two way street. Kids are kids, but we expect their parents to have common sense. Either their kids can handle a plane or can't.

Let me guess...You either don't have children -- or they are already grown up and don't come to visit you very often!Let me guess....You do have children---and you consider it you God given right to inflict them on others!

And why should you be suggesting someone get sterilized? I gave you lots of time to apologize for that... no dice. I guess my faith that you were a decent person was misplaced.

You are half right. I do have children. The other half is- Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is going to give drugs to my children to try to sedate them without my permission PERIOD.
Most of the time they are well behaved. Even so, there is always the chance that some self loving person -- I'm guessing someone like you -- will get totally uptight that they even make a peep.
They are kids.
They cry sometimes.
If they are yours, discipline them.
If they arent yours, Get over it.

I don't think (I hope) that anyone actually condones drugging kids. This thread has evolved from that topic to discussing the lack of parental supervision that tends to exist today and the lack of consideration on the part of many Parents with regard to their children's actions.

I never at anytime have advocated you giving your children drugs to sedate. And I do appreciate from you #34 that you do apparently attempt to control your children.
Which is a far cry, (no pun intended) from the children that I have seen on many a flight, or in restaurants, or other public places, to scream on and on with no apparent atttempt from the parents to calm the child.

Sadly, I have friends that let their little ones terrorize everyone. It was made very obvious to me the difference b/w good parenting and poor last week when I dined with them. While my friend's kids were screaming bloody murder the entire time,... other children of the same age at the table next to ours sat politely and calmly. Those other kids stared at the kids at my table like they were savages.... and they were savages... because my friend's don't believe in corporal punishment... nor had the consideration to take their screaming kids OUTSIDE to calm down. Next time I'm passing on dinner invitations... if the kids will be there.
