A "real" filibuster is to prevent a vote from being brought to the floor when only a few Senators want to prevent it. So, the R's could possibly shut down the Senate with a real filibuster. Because, a real filibuster could force an up or down vote.
Is that not about right?

KEEP TRYING!I intend to start calling that number when my free minutes kick in at 9:00. This whole effort is about publicity. The Republicans win if the voice mail boxes are full.

LOL! This is what is good with a traditional filibuster. We get to see some attempts at oratory, and certain Senators are rising to the occasion.
I have to admit that I want to see the Dems cry. This is why the GOP is doing this, to get campaign money from the grassroots conservatives. It is about time! I am glad to see the GOP finally going right-wing on the opposition! If they do good, maybe I will send them money, LOL!

I was going to go to the Senate Gallery tonight with the D.C. Chapter of FR, but I'm not feeling very well, my whole family is down with an intestinal virus and the Senate Gallery is no place to be with that condition :-)

I considered telling him to pee or get off the pot. But I gave the required info (WHy I don't know I've contacted him several times lately...we should be on a first name basis) ANd the told him to vote for the vote and then vote for the judges.

I wonder if anyone besides political junkies like us is paying attention?
My guess is no........... A poll would be interesting to see how many watched even one hour of this event and how many have even heard about it.....

Well, it is a reasonable question for HM.
Since both of mine are the ones with (ahem) spines, I don't have to really call in.
Yech. 30 minutes now on mute.

"I wonder if anyone besides political junkies like us is paying attention?" It's really too bad that more aren't political junkies the way we are. I'm so glad I discovered FR because the comedic remarks on these live threads are better than any writing I've seen on TV in the last 15 years! I thought comedy had died before I found FR!
To: maica
Very well stated. Perhaps you could explain this to the dem party - they're still waiting for Clinton to define the words, "advise" and/or "consent" for them.
To: visualops
That is why I thanked you.
Imagine, the Dems are so sure that a group which seeks to protect freedom is EXTREME.
I suppose that says all that we need to know about them.

I heard that some Republican senator was going to read from Zell Miller's book. Any truth to that. It would be electrifying for the senators to take turns doing so.
To: deport
Which goes to my point.
If the R's would play hardball, it would make news.
Filibuster on for an up or down vote
