Serve Your Community and the Nation
Become a Selective Service System Local Board Member

The Selective Service System wants to hear from men and women in the community who might be willing to serve as members of a local draft board.

Prospective Board Members must be citizens of the United States , at least 18 years old, and registered with the Selective Service (if male). Prospective Board Members may not be an employee of any law enforcement occupation, not be an active or retired member of the Armed Forces, and not have been convicted of any criminal offense.

Once identified as qualified candidates for appointment, prospective Board Members are recommended by the Governor and appointed by the Director of Selective Service, who acts on behalf of the President in making appointments. Each new member receives 12 hours of initial training after appointment, followed by 4 hours of annual training for as long as he or she remains in the position. They may serve as Board Members for up to 20 years, if desired.

Local Board Members are uncompensated volunteers who play an important community role closely connected with our Nation's defense. If a military draft becomes necessary, approximately 2,000 Local and Appeal Boards throughout America would decide which young men, who submit a claim, receive deferments, postponements or exemptions from military service, based on Federal guidelines.

Positions are available in many communities across the Nation. If you believe you meet the standards for Selective Service Board Membership, and wish to be considered for appointment please visit our web site at: >

There will be no exhemption for college in the next draft if it happens, so believe me you won't see the crap that went on in the late 60s and early 70s.

Yes there will be, those that suck off the tit off of the tax-payers will not be drafted, women, seniors and illegal immigants. Only young men will be drafted.

If people are talking about the draft as it was run during the Vietnam War, then I
am unalterably opposed. Besides being unconstitutional the draft was structured so as
to exempt the very people who have profitted the most from citizenship.

As far as I am concerned, the only just draft has only two classifications, 1A and 4F.
The draftees to be selected by lottery, not by some arrogant old b*st*rd who bases
his decision on his hatred for loud mufflers and haircuts.

Article XIII

Section 1: Neither slavery nor INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE, except as a punishment
for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the
United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2: Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

They are talking about reviving the draft.

Males and females, 18-49 years of age will be subject to the draft.

My guess is that the middle east is going to explode and they want to be ready.

The alternate media---Alex Jones---Pastor Ernie Sanders---Truth Radio and many others have been talking about this for several months now.

Only young men will be drafted

Yes, in case you missed the last 4000+ years of written history, by and large men, particularly young men fight wars... and as to your blanket statments about sucking off the tit of taxpayers, classifying all women as mooches and all senior sas mooches is quite an inane statement to make.

Frankly I am proud to live in a nation where it is still the males duty to protect his family and country. I fail to see why you think this is an issue... you really want to send old people and women to the battlefront?

The vietnam era draft was a joke... the idea of a "college exemption" was a joke. Sorry new draft will not have that crap believe me, if instituted... only requirements will be sound mind and sound body. You meet em, you get called, regardless of race, color, papas bank account or who mommy's sleeping with.

Nope. The cholera was in January of 1979 right after the TB.

The draft could be needed if we suffer a WMD attack. It certainly worked in WWII. I would not agree with the draft unless it was in a serious response to the survivability of our nation as it was in WWII. A lot of volunteers would come from middle America and the south. The draft would have to focus on NY, LA, Miami, New Orleans, etc. The refuge of the liberals that would be hiding under their beds praying for America to fall. Let someone shoot at them and see if they still hate our country.

I'll beleive that when I see it.

I agree, and hope that's what would happen, but I expect to see Elvis in concert first.

"You forget that the voluteer rate was at a all time high during WWII. "

Right you are. A draft would be a nationwide referrendum on public support.

Nope, believe me, I have to deal with the ex-hippies daily, and most of them are now grown up and joined the real world and the overwhelming majority openly admit they were only active in the stuff because of the drugs and the sex.... That's where the best parties were being held, and the sex and drugs were flowing the freeest.

They were dupes, willing dupes, but largely just dupes. Very few were true idealogues... that's a myth perpetuated by those of them who never grew up and now control the media to control the way that time in history was portrayed.

Think about it, you have a draft, with a college exemption, and where and who were protesting the most about it? The college students who couldn't get called up anyway! Did you see huge demonstrations at the factories where the non college kids were working? Nope... did you see huge draft card burning protests in the suburbs where most of the kids drafted were coming from? NO.

Young people go to where the best parties are... heck I can tell you stories about people who were outside the 68 democratic convention and the only reason they went was because they knew it was going to be one hell of a party.. they had no political care or dog in the thing.. but that's where the party was. In fact one of em met their husband when they both dodged under a bridge to hide from the riot police.... believe me the late 60s anti war movement wasn't some grand upswell.

Vietnam was a different war no doubt, the government was lying about things on the ground, representatives were undermining our ability to make and wage war, and enemies were stirring up unrest at home to further undermine the war efforts. We were not attacked first, on our home soil... our troops were not allowed to fight back, etc etc...

I said you're dreaming as relates to the current situation. Obviously if we are slaughtered by the thousands or hundreds of thousands the calculus changes.

The fact that the draft board is gearing up indicates the gub is thinking ahead and positioning itself to do a rapid call up AFTER a horrendous attack.

If they try anything else, believe me they would have a major problem on their hands.

With the balkanization of america and instant 24/7 news cycles.... they try to institute a draft with the sort of exemptions and nonsense that went on during Vietnam they would create a huge problem.

I don't think they are about to start up the draft, but if they do, and they try playing gerrimandering with who is and isn't drafted, it would be an absolute disaster.

I've still got my draft card from 1971. Do you think they've still got my records?

Yours and mine! They're no doubt filed somewhere near where the Lost Ark is stored. :-)

I've still got my draft card from 1971

If you got it before December, that card is older than me.

I can share your frustration about illegals, but seniors and women? Are you for real?

Gerrymandering the draft pool, that a turn of phrase I like, do you mind if I
file the serial numbers off that and use it elsewhere.

I imagine if they allowed college deferments, a good chunk of 20-23 year olds would use them, leaving the older men to be drafted (perhaps married men with children). This would be a personal concern, since my fiance is 24 and I believe men are eligible until their 26th birthday. Current draft laws say that married men and fathers are drafted right along with single men. Frankly, I do have a problem with family men being called up to fight when young, single guys get off scot-free simply by being in college.

My dad had a college deferment for the tail end of Vietnam (he wasn't even draft-eligible until '69) and still feels regret at not having served when his country was in need. His number was never called up, but part of him still wishes he had VOLUNTEERED for service anyways.

In my family (and my fiance's family as well) about half the men voluntarily serve in the armed forces, some making it their career. My brother (my only sibling) is 17 and just signed his delayed enlistment papers - I could not be prouder. It's not that I oppose war, I oppose forcing people to serve who don't want to. A volunteer military is stronger than an army half made up of unwilling and resentful conscripts.
