Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Is Russia with us or against us? Only God knows for sure.

I know we are compelled to pray for their conversion. After the "breakup" of the USSR, it was heartening to see a more open practice of religion - without fear of reprisal - and to see missionary efforts. There are still so many old-school communists & atheists...guess we just keep praying as we have been called to do and to provide a example in the way we conduct ourselves!

Swiss hold 8 over Saudi suicide bombs

Alison Langley in Zurich, and Brian Whitaker
Saturday January 10, 2004
The Guardian

The Swiss authorities have arrested eight people in connection with suicide bombings in Saudi Arabia.
The arrests on Thursday were part of a national operation by 100 police officers who raided homes in Geneva, Bern, Zurich, Vaud and Aargau and questioned about 20 suspects.

Those arrested are suspected of providing logistical support for a series of attacks by Islamic militants on housing compounds in Riyadh last May which killed 35 people, including nine assailants.

Officials said all the suspects were foreigners, but refused to disclose their nationality or give any other details.

The investigation is thought to have been triggered by the arrest in Pakistan last March of Khaled Sheikh Muhammad, the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington. "Inquiries identified incoming and outgoing calls from Khaled Sheikh's phone," the Saudi daily al-Watan reported last month.

As a result Swiss federal prosecutors obtained the names and phone numbers of people living in Switzerland who had been in contact with him.

The Swiss authorities then obtained court permission to listen in to relevant phones, according to court records ob tained by several Swiss newspapers. Andrea Sadecky, the spokeswoman for the federal prosecutor's office, would not say whether information from those calls led to the arrests.

A UN report last month criticised Switzerland for failing to prevent support reaching Osama bin Laden's network and the Afghan Taliban. It alleged that Switzerland was being used as a revolving door for weapons smuggling and that money for terrorism was passing through the country.

The report focused on two businessmen in Switzerland, Youssef Nada, an Egyptian, and Ahmed Idris Nasreddin, of Ethiopian descent. Both are linked to businesses allegedly involved in financing al-Qaida.

Last month the Swiss authorities found evidence linking Bin Laden and al-Qaida's alleged deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, to Swiss bank accounts during the 1990s.

Russia hesitant to seize materials terrorists desire

By Nicholas Kralev
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

(January 10, 2004)

Russia is reluctant to join an 11-nation U.S.-led effort to seize illegal shipments of nuclear and other proliferation materials that could fall in the hands of terrorists, senior U.S. officials said yesterday.
Even though discussions are still in their initial stage, the officials said the Russians are not yet convinced of the legality and merits of the plan, known as the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) and proposed by President Bush in the spring.
"They are not ready to join the process," a senior State Department official who asked not to be named told reporters. "They are interested but are raising a lot of questions."
Russia, which has a big navy despite its decline since the Soviet Union's collapse more than a decade ago, would be an "important player" in the PSI, the official said.

If it was just a matter of hunkering down at home and rationing food and water for a few weeks it would be a piece of cake.

It's the hordes of illegals and gangbangers from Providence that will be the big worry. After a night in the woods in the freezing cold, they'll do anything to anybody to eat and get warm. Would be like a Mad Max movie.

'DIRTY BOMBER' HUNT

By NILES LATHEM

January 10, 2004 -- EXCLUSIVE

WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence agencies have launched a worldwide manhunt for al Qaeda's master bombmaker, who may be building a "dirty" bomb and other new devices for terror attacks inside the United States, sources said.

U.S. counterterrorism officials told The Post it was new information about the activities of Egyptian-born bomb maker Midhat Mursi, in part, that led the Bush administration to secretly dispatch Department of Energy radiological detection teams to New York and four other cities over New Year's Eve.

Before the Bush administration decided to raise the nationwide alert level to Code Orange, an al Qaeda informant had said that Mursi, who goes by the nom de guerre Abu Khabab, was active again, intelligence officials told The Post.

Intelligence officials said Mursi is a chemical engineer who was head of al Qaeda's weapons-of-mass-destruction committee and reported directly to al Qaeda's No. 2 man, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

He is believed to have gone underground before or during the 2001 Afghanistan war and is considered the most wanted al Qaeda figure after Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Before the Afghan war, Mursi operated crude laboratories at an al Qaeda complex near Jalalabad, where satellite imagery showed scores of dead animals outside, victims of ghoulish experiments with anthrax and other biological and chemical poisons, U.S. officials said.

Sources said documents found at the camp and at al Qaeda safe houses in Afghanistan and Pakistan also included what one intelligence official called "very innovative designs for explosive devices" - some designed to be carried aboard airplanes without being detected.

Some documents indicated Mursi was exchanging information with Palestinian and Hezbollah bomb makers - including some who helped design the shoe bomb carried aboard a Paris-to-Boston flight by Richard Reid in 2001, sources said.

"Why is it going down now? Possibly for a couple of reasons. Financial drain on smaller communities and "unlikely" targets. Necessity of conserving resources to spend on "red" and aftermath if the threatened attacks- even a few of them- occur."

And/or necessity to maintain the momentum until election day.

I went to over to Yahoo groups last night after reading Granny's post. I clicked on the "other" or "hobbies & interests" group. Can't honestly remember which. I found lots of muslim forums with links to other sites. Like Granny said, they would be in the middle of completely innocent looking forums. I found one in a group with what looked like arab sportscar enthusiasts and a group of guys that liked to show off their American 4 x 4's by driving up huge sand dunes. That one really cracked me up. You see, I live in the south, and when I think of off-road sports, turbans just don't generally come to mind. Granny seems to be rather well informed.
