Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Like a focusing of our resources? Makes sense, if so.

I plan to do both. Shelter in place for a time, then head to a 'certain' countryside. I'm not at groundzero though. We will probably just have to deal with the effects of what happens up North.

Crash plane 'intact on sea bed'
09/01/2004 18:49 - (SA)

Cairo - The Egyptian plane that crashed in the Red Sea is still in one piece, but at a depth beyond the searchers' retrieval capacities, said aviation minister Ahmed Shafeeq on Friday.

Shafeeq said France would shortly provide the search operation with equipment to reach the wreckage, which is believed to be lying between 600m and 800m below the surface.

The chartered Boeing 737 of Flash Airlines crashed on January 3, minutes after taking off from the south Sinai resort of Sharm el-Sheik, bound for Paris. All 148 people on board were killed, including 134 French citizens.

Shafeeq said the plane's sudden disappearance from radar screens and the small scale of debris floating on the sea suggest the fuselage is relatively intact.

"What has been retrieved so far is not part of the main body of the plane," he said.

"There is a major part of the plane still deep in the water, perhaps holding some of the victim's bodies," he said.

Special deep-water submarine

However, the fuselage's suspected depth of 800m is "beyond our present capabilities to retrieve," he said.

Shafeeq said France would be sending in more advanced equipment within days.

The French equipment apparently includes a special submarine on loan from France-Telecom that can dive to 1 100m and can retrieve objects weighing from 100kg to 500kg. The submarine is expected to be operational by Monday.

Another French submarine and a robot owned by Comex, a French company specialising in underwater robotics, is scheduled to arrive by January 15.

Shafeeq emphasised there was no evidence of any terrorist involvement.

"This accident is 100% because of a technical fault," he said.

I don't know about Canadian law but from the standpoint of Egypt, he could certainly have triple citizenship. I worked with a lady who was married to a guy who was born in Libya so had Libyan citizenship, his mom was British so he had British citizenship, and his dad brought the entire family to America and got American citizenship. Somehow he ended up legally with passports for all 3 countries. After he got married to my coworker from Australia he had an Australian passport too. It always seemed kind of shady to me - although if you travel a lot I guess there could be advantages of not showing certain passports in certain countries I guess.

It's the unprepared ones that run for the countryside that worry me. Especially if something happens in the next couple days. It's about ten degrees out and below zero at night. A crowd of homeless, cold, hungry unprepared city dwellers will be a real problem.

It was, uh, uh, a spark in the center fuel tank, yeah, that's the ticket.

If it is in one piece what about the reports of the many body parts recovered indicating massive break up.

I was actually thinking of buying:

- HAM radio (understand this requires some training and a test)
- RAD detector (about $250)
- Building a Safe Room out of concrete block
- NBC filter (AmericanSafeRoom.com)

I already have nearly a year's worth of food and plenty of water and first-aid. As well as a back-pack ready to fill with stuff if I need to hightail it out of here.

Some may think I'm nuts, but I'm sure there are many among those of us here who are well-read on the subject who are probably planning similar investments.

At least these things would make me feel safer. I have no allusions as to the local, state or federal gov't helping us when all heck breaks loose. And I am not sure I want to be with all of the other people trying to get out of Dodge when the stuff hits the fan. That just sounds like a quicker way to die to me.

"They (HS) need to be more specific with us (the people)...I'd also like to see them use a map concept for the color alerts - I suspect most of us would enjoy learning that we're really in condition green or blue (and have been throughout)."

It kind of bugs me too. It's almost like they're talking down to us... "Don't worry your little selves about it and just let Law Enforcement and Homeland Security do their jobs. All you need to do is keep going to your jobs, flying on airplanes and shopping at the mall." Probably they think if they got too specific it might cause those in the elevated and high alert areas to over-react and panic with resulting negative economic ramifications. (The majority of Americans don't pay attention to what is going on as much as we do, anyway.)

But you know, there's not a whole lot else we can do...just remain alert and as informed as possible (with the help of FR!)

Sean what is your take on the threat level being lowered. Is this ignorance on the part of homeland security or they lowering it just for now so that they push it up again very soon and have people take it more seriously ?

O-MG. We'll need a big comfort net to scoop them up and help them. Dear God, I pray FEMA is really ready for something like this. They've just got to be. Somehow, we must help survivors of whatever comes, if anything. If we act quickly, we could save so many.

"I wonder if it would be helpful for us to try to decipher some of the more consistent threats."

We've been doing just that.

This looks like the vicinity of 5th Avenue and 55th Street in Manhattan. This may be indicative of the importance in symbolism that al-Qaeda places on the numbers "5" and "55".

Sorry for the graphic nature of this post but, IMHO, the US needs to be at CODE RED for the next approximately 25 days.

I remember back in the early 60's after the ussr exploded that BIG one. Bomb shelters went up everywhere.Living in BFE it never affected us although we did do the drills at school with no shelter. I remember seeing the panic of the city dwellers on TV, I could never relate.Of course we raised all our own food anyway.Fallout shelters, do they even exist anymore?

If so, probably being used by terrorists for weapons storage...8^(

The aircraft vanished from the radar a few minutes after taking flight.

Radar images indicate that the plane took flight and turned left as normal, then suddenly straightened out, turned right and tumbled into the sea. The last communication with the plane was at 5,300 feet.

On Saturday, sodden suitcases and body parts bobbed in the water a few miles from shore along with shoes, life preservers and shards of the plane. The jet fell into the water between Egypt and Saudi Arabia over a deep underwater crevice thick with sharks.

"There's lots of personal stuff, small bags and toys," a rescue worker told Reuters. "We have collected very small pieces of the plane, but the body of the plane has sunk."

In Cairo, relatives of missing crew members crowded the offices of Flash Airlines to demand information about their kin. ???The pilot, Khidr Abdallah, was in his mid-40s, "a very competent pilot with many years' experience," said another Flash Airlines pilot who asked not to be named.

Note: Pilot has a different name than Ashraf Abdelhamid. Has anyone checked this out?
