Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

"Mexico's Top Prosecutor Opens Terror Probe"

Tuesday, January 06, 2004
?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "MEXICO CITY  — Mexico has begun a formal investigation into whether terrorists plan to use Mexican flights to launch an international attack, the top organized crime investigator in the country said Tuesday.
The United States, Canada and Interpol told Mexico that officials suspect terrorists might be using Mexican soil to plan an attack, Deputy Attorney General Jose Vasconcelos(search) told reporters.

Officials canceled two Aeromexico(search) flights from Mexico City to Los Angeles last week because of terrorism concerns, but Mexican authorities found no evidence of an attack plot."

"Kandahar Bomb Was Hidden in Apple Cart"
AP | 1/07/04

Posted on 01/07/2004 2:06:01 AM PST by kattracks

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "KANDAHAR, Afghanistan Jan. 7 — A bomb that tore through a group of curious children in this southern city was hidden in an apple cart, police said Wednesday, as the death toll rose to 15. Meanwhile, a man seized by security forces as he fled the scene of Tuesday's treacherous double blast was refusing to speak to his interrogators.

The carnage on a street used regularly by U.S. military patrols was the worst since an explosion on a bus in neighboring Helmand province in July also killed 15 civilians.

Two years after the fall of the Taliban, the bombing underlined the failure of the Afghan government and its foreign backers to bring security to Afghans weary of nearly a quarter-century of violence.

The bomb was hidden in an apple cart left at the side of the road near a row of parked bicycles, not strapped to one of the bikes as first thought, Kandahar's deputy police chief, Salim Khan, told the Associated Press Wednesday.

The explosion was particularly devastating because it was preceded by a smaller blast, which lured a crowd of onlookers, mostly children playing soccer on a vacant lot nearby.

A battered sneaker lay amid pools of blood, the wrecked bikes and glass from a passing truck Tuesday.

"It was a time-bomb, hidden under the apples," Khan said."

"Jihad in Tennessee"
FrontPageMagazine.com ^ | 1/07/04 | Robert Spencer

Posted on 01/07/2004 1:37:28 AM PST by kattracks
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "While the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other American Muslim advocacy groups vehemently oppose efforts to investigate American mosques for signs of terrorist activity, evidence continues to mount that radical Muslims have been operating more or less with impunity in many stateside mosques and Islamic centers. It has just come to light that a militant Muslim organization in Knoxville, Tennessee, helped fund jihad in Bosnia and Chechnya in the 1990s. Mustafa Saied, a former student at the University of Tennessee, says that he was a member of the radical Muslim group the Muslim Brotherhood while at the university. He also told the Wall Street Journal that in the 1990s, charitable donations to the Annoor Mosque, which is located near the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, were sent to jihad fighters in Bosnia and Chechnya. But CAIR and Co. would evidently insist that there is no need to be concerned: after all, it isn’t being done any more!

The Muslim Brotherhood is hardly a benign organization. In Onward Muslim Soldiers I explore the thought of Brotherhood founder Hasan Al-Banna, as well as that of one of its greatest exponents, Sayyid Qutb. Both of these men, whose writings are widely revered in the Islamic world even today, declare that no government, Muslim or non-Muslim, has any legitimacy unless it obeys Islamic law. They exhort Muslims to wage armed jihad against those that do not. Modern-day terrorist groups worldwide, including Hamas and Al-Qaeda, can trace their lineage back to the Muslim Brotherhood. But until now, it hasn’t been widely known that the Brotherhood had made its way to the state of the Grand Old Opry.

Rather predictably, no one knew about all this. According to KnoxNews, Rosalind Gwynne, the University of Tennessee’s faculty adviser to the Muslim Student Association chapter, expressed surprise to hear that the Brotherhood was operating on campus. Hanan Ayesh, founder of an Islamic school connected to the mosque, said: "I’ve lived here for 30 years, and this is the first time I ever heard about it." Mostafa Alsharif, another Knoxville Muslim, added: "The majority of Muslims in the United States couldn't care less about the Muslim Brotherhood. They’re going to stay in the United States. There’s no need to be affiliated with something like that. . . . It’s not the reality of what’s happening in Knoxville today at all."

Tennessee was by no means the only American site of jihadist activity."

"Syria nuke threat"

By TREVOR KAVANAGH Political Editor

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "SYRIA’S President Assad yesterday warned he will NEVER scrap terror weapons as long as Israel has nukes.

The vow supported fears his country — named by America as part of the Axis of Evil — has a chemical and biological weapons stockpile.

British-educated Assad said: “It is not difficult to get most of these weapons anywhere in the world and they can be obtained at any time.”

The leader, who worked in the UK as an eye specialist, is believed to be pro-western.

But he is a puppet head of state who risks being toppled if he ignores hardliners.

His weak position was revealed in a Daily Telegraph interview when he refused to condemn suicide bomb attacks on Israel."

Who's Christopher Hitchens
A drunk British reporter who slobbered and spewed hate for Clinton ;)

I appreciated his book on Clinton ("No One Left to Lie To") but what was his hatred for Mother Teresa all about?

TheAngel shines upon Islam brightly the 7th...What is TheAngel...

I'm waaaaay behind here and don't know if anyone else has mentioned this....the moon is full on the 7th. I believe there's moon worship in Islam, right? Do they consider their moon diety an angel?

I just know the moon was exceptionally bright tonight and that's what made this connection in my poor lil brain.
So much to digest, file away; or toss aside if it's "hooey". (not been much of that) Great work by everyone!

QM2 seems to symbolize England as much as the Concorde symbolized France. Just a random rumination...

...and remember all of those cases of Norwalk Virus last fall on the cruise ships (including an Alaskan one, I believe)? How easy would it be to bring something "icky" (Anthrax?) onto QM2; how could you screen out bio being brought on by passenger(s); other passengers get sick & take sickness back to their hometowns, etc. thus dispersing the something "icky." Hopefully, after last year's NV, the ships are decontaminated more thoroughly now...still...

Does the QM2 (or any ship/boat) also have a number designation like flights do; does the QM2 itself (or any ship/boat) have any kind of number associated with it like a registration number?

What makes you think there would be a lock down of 'all major cities' if we 'lost a major city'? What purpose would that serve?

What makes you think the US even has the resources and manpower to 'lock down' all major US cities- at least in any effective way, even assuming there was some logical reason to 'lock down' cities in the first place? For example, about the only reason could be a biological attack using not anthrax, but some TRANSMISSIBLE agent like smallpox)

This country is enormous- few people realize just how immense this country is. Not only is it enormous, but the geography and infrastructure would not work in the favor of any effort to isolate specific regions.

Major American cities even by themselves are enormous and cannot be efficiently cordoned off, unless everyone concerned is willing to abide by the rules, and when has that ever happened? Perhaps isolating a city like Las Vegas would be prectical, but try to isolate a city such as St. Louis, Memphis or Chicago without the full cooperation of the residents and the effort would fail miserably.

Were there a biological attack, and locking down areas were thus made neccessary to limit the spread, there would be no logical reason to break travel restrictions, unless of course you want to help spread transmissible agents outside the lockout zone. Oh, certainly some people would try. And some would likely succeed.

I remember the flood of 93 where most people cooperated in dealing with the situation and volunteers came from all over, frequently unasked, to help shore up levees against rising waters, to provide medical aid, bring in supplies, to secure areas against possible looters, and even to clean up afterwards. (We had to arm ourselves to protect the state's water pumps and our neighbors' pumps from occasional aggressive thieves desperate to obtain them to save their own property or planning to sell hot pumps to those who were unable to buy them legally.)

There are always going to be people who care only about themselves, such as the guy who took his boat out to try to ram already saturated levees in an effort to save his fields. But when things come down to the wire, the bulk of people work together to do what is neccessary, just as in the flood of 93, or in Gulf coast hurricanes, or in harsh winter storms, western firestorms, etc, and have the resources stashed away to live independently and make things happen when neccessary. They will be able to apply these same resources and resourcefulness they use in natural disasters to situations which are decidedly 'unnatural.'

Hello,

May I comment on this one?

I will stay where I am, as health says that I won't be able to run.

So I will be the home site for family and friends, the area isn't too bad, about a 100 miles from Vegas and no military or plants to bomb. Plus I live in the desert, not town.

My concern is not what "I" will do, but the chaos that will come from the city folks, who will run----and run, with no place to go.

During WW2 and Viet Nam, I lived in San Diego, even during the Nam war, we were not allowed to remove our kids from school if there was an attack. We were told that there were 3 days of food in the stores and warehouses for the town, AND that the Gov. would lock it up and take it under control.

The evacuation routes all went thru military areas and were not able to carry the traffic (2 lane roads), so the signs with the arrows pointing up toward heaven truly carried the message that heaven was where the route would take you.

From San Diego, you have a choice of Los Angeles, El Centro or Mexico. Not my idea of escaping to safety.

Why am I talking about San Diego? It is a good sample town.

Do you remember the California fires earlier last year?

I was reading the reports and thinking that it was an attack, do you realize that many times there were no roads open to leave the area? Yes, even freeways were closed.

I think that it was Lake Arrowhead that the evacuated with a stream of cars, 7 lanes wide, bumper to bumper for 27 miles.

Someone was driving down the freeway and starting grass fires every mile or so, at the off ramps.

Several times roads were blocked with burning vehicles.

It is all in the Free Republic threads for the fires.

Unless you have a place to go and get an early start, it is better to stay put and fight to hold your place. ( My opinion).

Today, I live near Kingman, Az. We will have problems, as there are no plans for our needs, if there is a major strike on the California coast.

During the Nam war, it was thought that if there was a nuclear strike in San Diego, the radiation fallout would hit Phoenix and Tucson, Az. The official military opinion.

Kingman was the evacuation site for them. We had blankets and crackers stored in the court house basement. But, no longer, it is offices and as far as I know has never been replaced since it was cleaned out 20 years ago.

I am not as afraid of terrorists, as I am all the people on the road, who are scared and hungry.

During the Nam war, a friend was on the Wellton, Az school board, the military sent an adviser to help them, he told them that the California coast people would wind up out of gas about Wellton (35 miles from Yuma, as I recall 220 miles from San Diego.

I always thought of my brother, who had a screaming wife and 4 kids under 6 years old, they were the prime example of what would be attempting to take over what ever someone else had, scared, desperate and tired of attempting to keep order in the car and having no idea where he was going.

Today 35 years later, he still is not prepared and yes, I still preach at him because he isn't.

Store food and water. (I buy my storage food from waltonfeed.com, I have absolutely no connection with them. Check out the survival links to the website, lots of info on how to survive.)

I have attempted to talk folks into storing extra shoes and coats, etc.

During WW2, America did their own manufacturing, even with rationing there were limited items available.

Today, it will be easy to cut off our supply of clothes and food. Don't forget the missing ships, they will work nicely to shut down the Panama Canal. It will be easy to bring America to a halt.

Yes, I admit that at times, I do play with thinking around corners, guess as a FReeper, I will have to break down and make a Tinfoil hat, is it OK to have feathers and flowers or does it have to be plain?

Please overlook the misspelled words, I don't often write, so have gotten rusty.

Prayers for your safety and happiness,

Ruth

The Norwalk Virus is still active on the cruise ships, I get the Promed report and it has only been a week or so since there was an outbreak on a couple of ships, Hawaii and Australia I think.

I have always thought that they were deliberate. One of the last ones was 800 people, they no longer give the reports on the news, but it is very active.

I live on the far outskirts of Houston on Lake Houston. My fear would be an epidemic of something like SP.If for some reason supply lines where cut to the supermarkets there would be a mass exodus from the inner city of people without a clue how to survive except to steal from someone else.We are a pretty close knit neighborhood accessible by only one road. I am sure we would all take turns to defend our homes from unwanted guest. There is enough fish and wildlife around to support us.

Such info could be a HUGE indicator and of major importance.

How lucky you are, sounds like you are in an ideal place.

Have you considered attaching a solar greenhouse to your home for year around food?

Both of mine are gone from age and I no longer can care for one, but during the years that war was around the corner, I kept goats and chickens. Figured that I could put them in one greenhouse to protect them.

One year when we were still building, we had to move a goat in the new room, great fun for a couple weeks, as the floor was still dirt, but you can live with them, they are clean and have nice habits.

After the babies were born, she wanted all the kids and Me to go to bed at the same time, no getting up in the middle of the night for any of us.

Store food now. In the late 70's there was a truck strike and there was no food for sale in Kingman, then we had less people and only one big Safeway.

But I do know what a store without food looks like. I think the manager was hauling pickup loads from Las Vegas and he would only sell one of anything to you.

I am alone and no longer drive, so only shop 2 or 3 times a year, so I will be able to survive.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that we are a week into the New Year, and we have not suffered days of devastation ... we praise You for Your mercy. May it continue to be so, Merciful Father, as those charged with our safety and security continue to glean information and forewarn those targeted. Grace the nations with wisdom in the use of this information, that those who would do us harm would not escape. Bring forth that specific one in France who has drawn back into the shadows ... bring that one to light, that evil intent will be thwarted. Refine our systems of intelligence and security ... cause the enemy to be powerless ... draw the nations together in a united effort to rid the world of terrorism, for You would have us live peaceable lives.

Gracious God, we continually plead our cause before the Throne of Grace, for You have blessed us as a nation, and as individuals. May Your hand of protection rest mightily upon us, not through merit of our own, but because You are a loving God. Turn us from any wicked way, that we might always rest secure in Your love. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...
