Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

FWIW, the following is a machine translation via Tarjim.

Hi, LG2...what is a machine translation? Also, I've seen some people use the word "translation" and others use something like "transliteration." What is the difference? Aside from the WOT, I've learned a lot more about computers, Arab culture, Internet sleuthing, etc than I ever thought possible! Feels like I'm working on a degree just reading/studying this thread sometimes and its great!

Yeah, that is shallow. The location is creepy. I've got to work this weekend so I'm not going to be online until tomorrow night at best and this is going to be under my skin.

Do you think the "OBL navy" might have borrowed a sub?

A spoof newsflash by a TV station in Lebanon saying that Osama Bin Laden had been captured in the northern city of Tripoli was taken more seriously than the programme-makers had expected.

Arabic TV stations have aired several 'Bin Laden' tapes
Despite several clues onscreen that the bulletin was a joke, the LBC station was inundated with calls.

Yep Lie TV -g- those of us who won't believe he's caught until we see and maybe not even then. then there are those that will make everything so that he has been caught when maybe not.

10 km is about 33,000 feet... that's too deep to be 'suspicious.'

You have a point, but it seems that the floor at that point may be significantly lower...how can an earth quake be more shallow then the floor?...you know, maybe the star on the graph is actually hiding the real depth.

will seismographs pick up nuke activity?...

I think they will. I read something saying nuke testing triggers alot of seismographs. That's why someone pointed out that al-Qaeda's "nukes" may not even work, as they would likely have been picked up by geologists around the globe.

Is that too deep for a sub? or could something detonate after being dropped when it reaches a certain pressure level...just as there have been discussions about setting a switch for air pressure?

Machine translation means via a computer program or a website/service like Tarjim, which is what I use. It is far from perfect, but it can at least give you a clue as to whether you're just viewing a chocolate chip cookie recipe or something more interesting. I think StillProud2BeFree mentioned transliteration in an earlier post. Here is an example of transliteration:

Tee Ay Gee El Iy En Ee = TAGLINE

Spelling out the letters that make up the words in this manner will cause a machine translator to fail or to produce gibberish results. Only a fluent reader of the language in question would a good chance of realizing what is being said.

I am sure the Feds have some nifty software (it has been 28 months since 9-11, let's hope and pray) by now that can look for keywords and sift through the mountains of Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, etc. information that shows up on the web everyday.

Now, if AQ has switched to a secret cookie recipe code system then we're probably screwed. :)

Thanks, called vet ER and Poison Control Center. He should be OK but I need to get him to drink some water. He had surgery (his third) today and I feel like an incompetent 'mom' for doing something so stupid. But, he should be OK. Thanks everyone.

THANK YOU FReepers for your advice and for your help in calming me down and helping me think clearly so I could take the correct actions to help my furbaby. JR - thank you for FR. I love this place! Jen

Thanks everyone! I got about 20 cc of water down Sasso, so I hope that dilutes the Betadine enough. He's eating food now - which I added water to. I'm going to stay up with him for awhile just to make sure he's OK.
Poor little fellow has been through so much! He escaped from the house while I was off on vacation (my mom was house and pet-sitting) and got in a bad fight. He lost, big time. Nasty cat bites on his hind quarters which absessed. Didn't find out for several days until I got back from vacation and noticed he was acting strange. Then the abscess burst. Ick! Took him to vet immediately. Very bad large wound - lots of decaying tissue, etc, etc.
Sasso had a reaction to the anesthesia and died on the operating table - but the vets were able to resuscitate him. He's our miracle kitty! They said only about 3 percent of cats can be resuscitated. Bad news though is that he lost most of his sight due to lack of oxygen during the cardiac arrest. :-(
The wound was so bad and large, that the vet did a skin graft (2nd surgery) but most of it failed. So we waited and waited for the wound to close on its own as much as it would, and the final surgery was today. It's been close to three months since he was attacked.
Soooooo, purrhaps that gives you an idea why I was so worried and freaking out when I goofed and gave him Betadyne instead of his pain med.

or just let it drop for 20 min.(or what ever the rate of descent by the depth that you want to trigger the nuke)
