Fifteen American soldiers have been killed and 21 wounded in an attack on a US military helicopter in Iraq, the US military has confirmed.Do the wounded ever die anymore? Seems I never hear the wounded being added to the number killed on the news reports.

Probably a nail in Rumsfeld's coffin. GWB has a dilema. Many sad events such as this will force a policy change.
The policy cannot change politically while Rumsfeld is
Defense Secretary, he has made too many declarations.

The only way I see Rumsfeld going is if Bush goes or if Rumsfeld resigns (extremely unlikely).

When the network news play the tape tonight of the Iraqis dancing in the streets and looked like they were dancing
at the scene of the crash, the National mood will change somewhat.
Rumsfeld makes statements that bind the administration. I see NATO moving into Iraq if Rumsfeld is ousted.

Why aren't our helicopters equiped with anti-missile technology? When I read about more Americans dying, I am reminded of a passage that speaks of not casting our pearls before swine, lest they overrun you. The Muslims are the swine. They will hate us no matter what we do.

Nato? I doubt it-- the French and Germans will do nothing-- a clera majority of the French want us to fail and leave with our tail between our legs.
After the attacks on the UN and the Red Cross (both of which could have been prevented if they had worked with us to implement proper security), does anyone think that any "international" force will not be attacked?
The dems and the euros think that these attacks are motivated by the same anti-americanism that motivates them. They're not. They are motivated by a desire to reinstate Saddam or a Saddam-like Sunni despotism that will restore these yahoos to the top of the social and economic pecking order.
They continue to attack because they don't feel they've been defeated, and our habit of running away every time a convoy is hit only shows our cowardice to them, not our resolve.
It's time to take these videos and round up every single one those scumbags and they're fathers and throw them in prison, and to respond to every attack with crushing force, and keep doing it until this bs stops or these towns are depopulated of their male population.

Major California flames had spread across 739,906 acres by Friday, killed 20 people and destroyed 3,398 homes... "
It is time we evacuated all of southern California. My God twenty people dead from fire just this week. It is evident the fires have won. we are doing no better than fighting a losing battle against the fires. We beat them down in one place and they erupt in another.
It never ends, the fires come back year after year, we can no longer sustain the loss of lives, blood, property and tax payers money in fighting a never ending and ever worsening situation.
Just give it back to nature and let it burn, at least American lives will no longer be sacrificed in this quagmire that goes on & on with no exit strategy in sight. The nightly news pictures of the tears, sense of helpeness and destruction is tearing at the moral fabric and soul of the American people.

Do I get that right? You no longer back your beloved "Rummy"?? Well, I was never in favour of him, he isn´t capable of talking diplo-speak, but most FReepers admire him. *confused*

"The Americans are pigs. We will hold a celebration because this helicopter went down - a big celebration," an Iraqi farmer near the crash site told Reuters news agency. This could be our first one to round up. He's definately with the enemy.

It looks that way. There will be a major policy shift. In fact, if this keeps up, there will be an Administration change. Understand that those who are now fighting in Iraq are encouraged to do so by the political opposition here in America. Active encouragement, and you know who they are: anyone who speaks against the war and urges withdrawal, and that is exactly what they seek because that is how they can regain power over the $trillions of the richest country on earth.

I disagree, we need to do more to help the innocent trees burning helplessly in southern CA. A survey of the trees showed that over 90% support our forest building efforts. Therefore we should send more of our young soldiers to water trees and plant more. We fully expect that some will be swallowed up by the flames but we must not falter in our forest building efforts. We must show those flames that we can always plant trees faster than they can burn them.

Quite the opposite: I am saying that Rumsfeld will not go until Bush goes, and Bush ain't going anywhere until 2008.
All I'm saying is I would like to see a change in tactics, but then again, I'm not there on the ground and so far the powers that be have done a pretty amazing job.
But maybe that's because I expected around 1500 KIA in the invasion alone. Why are there so many people (left and right) who think this has to be a garden party or its a failure? I saw the video of our Marines being welcomed with applause by the Shiites in Bagdhad; that doesn't mean there is not a significant part of the population that wants us dead. And my guess is that when a new government is established, there will still be some fighting and/or terrorism going on, as there is in almost every country from Casablanca to Jakarta.
To: pierrem15
Yeah, it surely will take much more time - and sadly, more losses. Though, I don´t like Rumsfeld. But it´s not up to me to decide that or even to advise you.

There will be a major policy shift. In fact, if this keeps up, there will be an Administration changeIf any adminsitration has to make major policy changes because they're stampeded by a hysterical weekend of press coverage, God help us.
And I doubt Bush will change anything, except speeding up the build-up of Iraqi forces. He and Rumsfeld will do what they think is right, regardless of the bs in the press. And if we don't like it, we can vote Bush out of office, which is obviously what the press is working to achieve every day. If that means abandoning another country to despotism and making sure evety American killed their died in vain and aiding terrorists, they and the dems are more than happy to oblige.

We did that to Vietnam. This is starting to resemble Vietnam, mainly in the political opposition right here in the USA. They are encouraging the enemy, and if anybody still is unsure of that, then he is sleepwalking.
