ABC: Oswald did it

Network debunks conspiracy theories with digital re-creation

Using a computer-imaging process roughly akin to video games, ABC News has constructed a forensic tableau that it says proves Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in assassinating President John F. Kennedy.

"What it does is prove unequivocally that Oswald was the only person in Dealey Plaza that day to fire," ABC anchor Peter Jennings said this week.

The digital reconstruction, created for the upcoming Nov. 20 special Peter Jennings Reporting: The Kennedy Assassination – Beyond Conspiracy , was the result of a decade of work by author and animator Dale Myers.

Using maps, blueprints of Kennedy's limousine, measurements, about 500 photographs and each frame of the 16mm amateur film shot by Abraham Zapruder in Dealey Plaza, Mr. Myers created a virtual reconstruction of the assassination that can be viewed from multiple viewpoints.

The technique is based on new imaging technology and is beginning to be applied as an evidentiary tool in courtrooms. ABC said Mr. Myers' assassination reconstruction was independently evaluated and endorsed by other forensic analysts.

By viewing the assassination from multiple perspectives, it is an "inescapable conclusion" that the shots that killed Kennedy and wounded Texas Gov. John Connally came from Oswald's perch in the former Texas School Book Depository, said Tom Yellin, executive producer of the special.

In the video re-creation, only Kennedy and Connally are shown in the open limousine they rode in Nov. 22, 1963. "It will be shocking to people to see it. It is not our intent to shock people or use this gratuitously," Mr. Jennings said.

"But in order to have people understand the point we're making – that Oswald acted alone in Dealey Plaza that day, to use this to prove what we are able now to prove – this technique is indispensable," he said. "I am amazed how the animation invokes the real event."

Although the Warren Commission concluded in 1964 that Oswald acted on his own, the Kennedy assassination has been the focus of conspiracy speculation for four decades and has spawned about 500 books. Part of the reason for the public's suspicion is because of government secrecy that for years shrouded details of the event, Mr. Jennings said.

Oswald? You mean a fuzzy cotton-tail killed JFK?

Haven't you realized the name "Harvey" explains who noöne saw him escape?

Maybe they will have an animation of Oswald committing suicide in the Dallas Jail Garage.

Re: ">>>>>>"I am amazed how animation evokes the real event">>>>>> Animated pigs can fly too."

That says it for me. Who did it aside, the question here is just what can be "proved" by a stupid cartoon/computer game. Except, of course, the CIA cartoon that "proved" that a 747 keeps on truckin' with the forward part of it's fuselage blown off. Hey! They had a cartoon that showed it happening.

Can a government keep a secret? No. Not as long as some citizens have their "tin foil hats." It took years of ridicule and threats but the "tin foil hat" crowd of patriots finally got some answers about Ruby Ridge and Waco.

I read Posners book, many of his conclusions are at best asinine.

I think he was in the School Book Depository for some reason that day,

You really know Jack about the JFK assassination.

I actually know the reason Oswald was in the depository building, and am willing to reveal it to you for a small cash payment

Re: who had the most to gain from Pres. Kennedy's death

Far more important reasons than just beoming president were the motives for Rasputin's evil twin, LBJ.

Here's a plug for Barr McClellan's book on why he believes he has the goods to prove the scum LBJ had it done. I certainly remember those days of Bobby Baker, Billie Sol Estes, et al. The books, title is "Blood, Money and Power" I believe.

"Oswald acted alone and fired the three shots in Daley Plaza that killed Kennedy and wounded Conally. Anything more is simply mental self abuse."

Maybe, maybe not. But you single yourself out as being one who is absolute about it. To be that certain about it, you would have to know other things as well. Let's hear some more stuff. Thanks.

Gee I wonder if the ABC cartoon opens with Bugs.. er, I mean Lee Harvey reading a Dallas newspaper ad criticizing President Kennedy and deciding that the president must be assassinated?

Oswald was provoked into killing Kennedy by conservative criticism of the president was the liberals of the day cartoon "facts." I remember Bob Grant telling the story of how he got a start behind the mic. The regular guy, conservative and wounded W.W.II Marine Joe Pyne, was literally run out of town.

The left took full advantage of the assassination. Just one more reason I hate the left.

Check the earthcam to figure out which view is easiest for you.

No need for that as I have been there MANY times over the years starting from shortly after the event until now and I can tell you that the ONLY logical reason for such a wait is to put the target in a pre designated "kill zone".

Maybe he figured the windshield would be in the way?

Yeah! Sure!

Target in open topped vehicle on ground below window. Shooter in 6th floor window and the windshield is in the way!

NOW I get it!

Investigate it just like they would as a "CSI" team.

It's a shooting incident. Work from there. Check the closest reliable witnesses, check trajectories, where the bullet fragments landed and count the shots.

Then you'll know who did it.

Again, check the earthcam. The easiest shot is the one going away with the car in a slight downward slope. The street is in line with the corner window. First shot was pulled after the car went around the corner, second at 44 yards and third at 88 yards away.

If not the windshield for the longest shot, then Connelly would be the one blocking.

Interesting. I've believed for some time that he was the lone gunman. He had the means, the motive and the opportunity. Conspriacies are seldom successful and if after 40 years no one has come forth who is credible perhaps it is just time to put this one to bed. I know I have.

No one will ever have "conclusive" evidence one way or the other. There are several people to blame for this. LBJ didn't give a flip about Kennedy dying, and he wanted stuff cleaned up and gone quickly.

Secondly, Jack Ruby created the entire "conspiricy" when he offed Oswald. A jewish guy who ran a nudie bar and had known mob connections nailing the prime suspect BEFORE he could talk to anyone is bound to raise a few eyebrows.

Third, the shot wasn't impossible, but three rounds from a crappy bolt action are pretty darned good shooting. Oswald was in the Marines, spent time in the Soviet Union and was certifiably part of the "spook" underground. Your average Joe Blow just didn't go over to Russia and hang out in the late fifties and early sixties. How does that piece fit into the puzzle?

Here's the thing, though, that guarantees there will never be a definitive solution. Too many people have traipsed through the evidence. Too much evidence has disappeared, too much has appeared, and too much has been manufactured. Finding the truth now would be like trying to discover the first footprint left on a football field after the game was over.

Yep. Must have been all those NobelPrize genius-level "losers" among the Texas branch of the John Birch Society that got Atsugi Oswald all jazzed up. What's funny about the JFK maze is that while those who claim there was "no conspiracy" (foreign or dmomestic)to kill Oswald (because all conspiracy theories are fomented by delusional "losers" right?), they do claim THERE ARE conspiracies to promote the conspiracy theories which must be hunted down, weeded out, and stopped with all of the tyrannical machinery of the big media propaganda industry. The no conspiracy people believe in bizarre conspiracies. They propose some vast network exists (for sinister political reasons). If they can work Nazis and white supremacist skinheads and hillbillies in the hills of Idaho into that network, so much the more entertaining.

This is Mickey Mouse journalism. Come to think of it, the Disney/ABC connection makes the "cartoon" jokes all the more on target. Just like Clinton was guiilty of no sinister conspiracies, but was a poor victim of the VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY. It if it works once, why not use the same spin again? ABC covered for Clinton's ass. They have a lot of experience with voodoo journalism to promote their weird agenda.

How does it go again... Oswald was a "loser"...a "moron"... mentally ill" maybe...but a brilliant crack-shot marksman who master-minded the most dazzling political assassination in modern history, offed witnesses from the grave, altered autopsy photos, and deleted evidence from the Warren Report. To paraphrase the words of Jim Garrison, "That's some damn Poltergeist."

I am not "absolute", but close to it. The experience I have with firearms and what Oswald did does not conflict. A trained and practiced marksman, practicing consistently with the same rifle, could easily reproduce the shooting performance of the Kennedy killing. The shooting time and the bullet behavior do not strike me as unusual. I have shot a deer in the shoulder and the bullet came out of the deer's eye, about 90 degree's to the bullets original flight. These phenomenon of bullet ballistics are counter-intuitive to most people. I don't know much about computers and they seem like a conspiracy to me. To those who know about PC's, even the abnormal has a logical explanation.

If anyone would like JFK's assassination be a provable conspiracy, it's me. I was a "Young Republican for Goldwater" in '64. LBJ drafted me in 1968 for reasons that I knew were bogus. God, I'd love it if someone could prove LBJ had it done. But for now, I don't think so. I think Oswald slipped through the cracks of government, just like the 9/11 hi-jackers, and committed a crime that changed our lives. All by himself.

Re: LBJ done it?

Maybe you already know of Barr McClellan's new book suggesting that LBJ and associates did do it -- and it wasn't for the trivial reason of making LBJ president. All the them had more important reasons.

I've despised LBJ since those days. I googled for "most evil man in history" and found nothing but amateurs to compare to LBJ. If someone told me Elvis was close to LBJ I'd believe Elvis assassinated President Kennedy. Disney/ABC news wouldn't have to produce a cartoon showing Elvis doing it.

Mr. McClellan writes about people who were peers and associates of LBJ. I always wondered why Bobby Baker dropped out of the news and why ol' Billie Sol Estes sort of drifted off somewhere. Now I know tough I have not read the book yet.

Actually, we knew then but the only free press around were limited circulation periodicals. The liberals were using the "Fairness Doctrine" and shutting down discussions and of course these was no Internet. There was just the Birchers and little else.
