I heard that Norm McDonald is becoming a citizen due to Canada not supporting the USA in the Iraq war. He also purportedly said that Ronald Reagan was the best president of the USA.
Anyone watch this or hear this too? I'm posting this 2nd hand as I've read it elsewhere online.
He espoused these views on The View today.

I don't know why, but he just does it for me. I enjoyed the debut of his new sitcom last night.

Note to self:- Norm MacDonald's new show is on Wednesday nights.
The story I heard was that SNL's producer Lorne Michaels didn't think Norm was funny enough so he canned him. I always did. The guy that replaced him was HORRIBLE and didn't last long.

I think the NBC exec was Don Ohlymeyer. He didn't think Norm's jokes were funny so he had Lorne Michaels take him off the air. After it happened Norm went on Letterman and excoriated Ohlmeyer. It was great.

Ummm...yup. You're more than welcome to join the States. We could use more of you. (I'm sure the young, single women would agree. ;))

How old are you? Married? (My nieces need husbands....) heehehee
Anyway, regardless of your answer: COME ON DOWN!!!

Thanks, I was just going to correct myself. Googling Norm MacDonald I see I few interesting facts among which is that indeed it was Don Ohlmeyer who axed him.
Norm will be on Letterman Nov 10 (Barbara Bush on Leno Nov 4)

I remember that.
One of the things I googled up just now about Ohlmeyer is that he is (was??) on the Board of Advisors to Salon.com!! (year 2000).
I stopped watching SNL after they canned Norm.

He's got a show on Fox now I understand.

I'll try to look that up. I watch 0 sitcoms, but I'll try to check it out. He's a funny guy. I really don't like sitcoms, but you never know.

Norm was the funniest Weekend Update anchor ever. One of my favorite bits was one time he reported about Michael Jackson being in the hospital for exhaustion or something, and how he had two gigantic posters of a young Shirley Temple put in his hospital room.
Norm said "But don't get the wrong idea! Michael is still a homosexual pedophile."
Another time, he was reporting the 'best jobs' according to some industry survey -- stuff like systems analyst & college administrator, or what have you, then he revealed the worst job on the list: "Crack whore." The next year he did the same bit again, saying that a new job had displaced crack whore from the 'worst job' designation: "Assistant crack whore."

Rumor was he was canned from SNL for going after president clinton too much. That was no rumor. He publicly called out O.J. Simpson on National TV regularly during the trial, and the President of NBC (who happened to be a personal friend with the murderer) took a big chunk out of Lorne Michaels ear and said "you do something about that guy",the rest is history. Someday, something horrible will happen to that guy, whateverhisnamewas for, as we say 'marginalizing' him, that type of behavior always comes back to get you eventually.

Yes, it was amusing - it shows promise. First episodes are never usually 'great' because they try to introduce and set up all the characters first.
Hopefully fox won't give it the same schedule switching kiss of death they gave to the andy richter show.
