OSAMA bin Laden's al-Qaeda terror network is planning a "death blow" against Americans during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a Saudi magazine reports in its issue due out today.
"Al-Qaeda is going to carry out a death blow against Americans during the month of Ramadan," Al-Majallah said, quoting an e-mail sent by Abu Mohammed al-Ablaj, identified as a senior member of al-Qaeda.
Ablaj, who regularly communicates with the London-based weekly via e-mail, did not specify if the threatened strike will be carried out in the United States or against American interests abroad.
"Muslims have the right to draw the blood of Americans, civilian or military, everywhere in the world," Ablaj said.
He did not dismiss the possibility of a "painful" strike in Iraq, which is currently under a US-led occupation following the overthrow of dictator Saddam Hussein.
"Bin Laden has ordered his supporters to carry out a guerrilla war against Arab and Muslim countries where there is an American military and commercial presence," Ablaj said.
"The guerrilla war decided by bin Laden and his assistants won't be limited to martyr (suicide) operations mentioned in his last two messages. This (war) will be carried out by other means and (using) different types of weapons," he added.
In a message purported to be from bin Laden and aired on October 18 by Qatar's Al-Jazeera television station, the terror chief threatened to send suicide bombers to the United States and attack any forces joining the US-led coalition in Iraq.

Good points, Sam.
I think the "go shopping" message right after 9/11 was the right one - it did reaffirm our confidence in the fact that our country would continue running, etc. And people responded the right way. (Although, as you point out, many of the costs were hidden and long-term, and the economic impact is still being felt.)
But that can only happen once, and the next major strike, if there is one, is going to initiate a struggle to the death. I think GWB gave the Muslim world a chance to sort itself out and decide which side they were really on. After all, no President wants to be the one who touched off the war from which there is no turning back, a war that could well destroy much of the world.
Sadly, it seems that most of the Muslim world has chosen the wrong side, or has been too timid in supporting the right one. I have a terrible feeling of inevitability about what is going to happen next, although I think Bush deserves much praise for trying to prevent it, or at least hold it off.

I seriously doubt that a rational person would advocate nuking an entire region as a response to a terrorist act.I agree...but I hear people do it quite frequently. Innocent human life has no meaning for some people; they don't see (or don't care) that this makes them every bit as evil as the terrorists.

It's amazing how a few fellatio jokes can liven up a thread.

BUMP
Al Qaeda typically issues warning before major atacks.
I think some people prefer to live in denial and take it lightly, because that is easier, but I think the threat is real.

That phrase "House of Ramadan" keeps playing along with "this Ramzan will be different" and the references to fire, other ways of killing.
And flight patterns around Logan have been screwy again.

Sad to say, but if this were to occur, I suspect any shred of resolve that still remains regarding the war on terror may melt away. I hope I'm wrong. This nation has surprised me more than once.

I think some people prefer to live in denial and take it lightly, because that is easier, but I think the threat is real.In many cases, I'm sure you're right. For some of us though, we have already done what can be done, and the rest isn't really in our control; so worrying about it accomplishes nothing.

I think that Muslims should be the ones to be most upset and root out these terrorists from their midst, who are using the excuse of the Muslim religion to murder innocent people, which of course reflects very poorly on the religion.

"If we couldn't be sure who did it, who, where, with what and how would we attack?"
I would imagine we'd figure out which group if not which specific people (although, depending on the attack, the actual perpetrators may die in the process). If not, just bomb the heck out of all known terrorists.

I can't help you with your terrorists if you won't help me with mine? That's probably what you're looking at there.
I'm sorry that these zombies are causing you guys so much grief..
