Does anyone manufacture brass deflectors and/or brass catchers for the AK47? I need one.

Here's the deal: My AK47 spits empties out to a distance of up to 45 feet. This makes policing up the brass a royal PITA. Also, a bit uncomfortable to anyone on a range-station to my right. This is the one and only thing I do not like about this rifle. All home-built attempts have thus far failed to function properly - most have deflected the empty straight back in through the ejection port, causing hellacious stovepipe jams. I give up. I'd like to know if anyone has already solved this problem, and has a product on the market.

Specs: 7.62x39mm AK47; civilian model; "Maadi" stamped metal receiver; Bullpup retrofit kit.

Can anyone do me a solid and hook me up with a solution?

Can anyone tell me if a .45-70 rifle is suitable for elk?

Absolutely, in terms of terminal effect. 45-70 will KIA any big game in N. America.

The only drawback to 45-70 is trajectory, Elk can require some long-ish shots and 45-70 has something of a "rainbow" trajectory compared to the medium bore magnums or even 30-06.

Pick a load and get comfortable with shot placement out to 200yds or so and you'll do fine.

Max range for 45-70 should probably be 150yd or less on Elk as it loses energy rapidly. Just be prepared to get in close and pass up long shots.

Terrain is important also, if you know your shot is likely to be over 150yd you may want to consider a longer range cartidge.

......anyway, I have not done it, but friends have had great results with 300 grain bullets. They shoot flatter, but still have enough weight and diameter to be very effective.

You might want to get a new recoil spring. A weak one might be causing it to sling brass into the next zip code.
