Of that, I'm not sure. It is insanity, but I suspect that it is a state issue. Cali is in the heart of the environazis and has (until now) had the left controlling all 3 branches of state government. Anything stupid can happen under those circumstances.
The one thing I do know is that there has been a concerted effort on the part of the far-left to remove all traces of human existence from many national forests. Part of believing in that policy is that many forests haven't had the care they deserve over the last several years. No clearing of underbrush, no thinning, no removal of dead wood, and no fire breaks.
Cars scramble to exit the I-15 freeway to flee the flames of the Cedar fire crosses as it approaches the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar, California on October 26, 2003. Cooler weather on Wednesday could help exhausted firefighters battling blazes that have raged across southern California and into Mexico, devouring swathes of land and homes and killing at least 18 people. The firefighters hoped to take advantage of a drop in temperatures to try to save mountain communities from being destroyed by the surrounding flames. (USMC/Reuters)
Do you know if I5 from LA to San Diego is open?
AWWWWW! What an incredibly touching thing to say, kiddo.

That is so true. I grew up in old suburban Cleveland - as a city dweller. Fires, to us, were when a building burned down. The fire was almost always put out on the same day it started. Very rarely did it take more than a day. That is what makes this situation so important.
California Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) meets with Energy Secretary Spenseer Abraham, right, at the Department of Energy (news - web sites) headquarters in Washington Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003. Schwarzenegger used his first visit to Washington since his Oct. 7 election to plead for additional federal resources to fight what authorities are calling the worst fire emergency in the state in more than a decade. They're taking a drive to Pt. Loma/San Diego for a college visit on Friday (and visiting UCLA while they're there), and I thought from the maps of the fires that it was clear in those areas, but really appreciate the specifics.
My prayers are with you all.
