When a tree burns, it emits heat and moisture - in the cooler air the vapor would condense and rain out. Just a guess...

During the day, the fire gets a lot of it's momentum from
local weather conditions, which are usually uphill, up canyon winds. At night, the air becomes cool, and usually blows downhill, or down canyon. ( usually..obviously this does not apply with Santa Ana conditions.)
That is why the fire USUALLY "lays down" at night.

arrowhaed update: two flanks of the fire appraoching one from the south over the 18 and one from the west..also fire NE of arrowhead(the fire that burned those 250 homes earlier).

Dang. For an unknown reason, I really wanted Arrowhead, above other areas, to get through this unscathed. I cannot explain my favoritism, especially since I"m not from that area.

Over in Stevenson Ranch, they said the humidity is a little too suddenly high -- they won't be able to set the backfires they want to. The fires won't burn right. oh well, feast or famine out here.

When they kill trees, cut them down immediately and remove them to kill the beetles and to eliminate fuel.But that requires logging equipment and roads, which are both anathema to environmental extremists.

You are absolutely correct. FFers I know have been predicting this very thing for well over 10 years. Like knocking yourself in the head with a hammer trying to get some folks to understand.
