It's awful slow tonight reporting any new fire outbreaks on CHP site....I very glad for this, but it's almost eery, as I know from posts here that there's just a sea of fire down in So. Calif.

Call me a geek, but I've been following this on the map for a week.I hear you. I was doing that over the weekend, but I really can't keep track of it all.
And, if you insist...
You're a geek.

That is perhaps the best picture of Governor Un-elect Gray Davis that I've seen all week. I always knew he was a flamer.

No disrespect to the FFers, but does anyone think it's weird that the whole firefighting operation just sort of shuts down for the night at sundown?
I mean, I know some of them are still working, but nothing like during the day.
But the fire rages all night...

The smoke from the fires in CA have reached and passed Las Vegas on its way north. It is now in Southern Utah and Arizona. California is burning like I've never before and I have seen many a brush fire there. Vegas was covered by a dark cloud of smoke and the wind was gusting to 40 MPH. What a terrible sight, but Southern Cal must be much worse!
ABC national news just went over the various fires. About the Simi one they said 'so far it's north of the Ronald Reagan Highway. For now. It could turn south, toward Malibu.' That was it, then he moved to the SD fires. L.A. is Hollywood and Malibu and "some other places"

Two more die in California fires
From correspondents in Los Angeles
October 30, 2003
AT least 20 people including a fireman have been killed in bushfires that have scorched more than 2470 square kilometres of California, officials said today.
A firefighter was killed today as he battled a huge 93,600-hectare blaze near the city of San Diego, while authorities said they had found another charred body in a home burned out in the area.
"We discovered a badly burned victim in a destroyed house this morning," said Adriana Uribe of the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) said that one fireman was killed and three others critically injured as they battled to save a town near San Diego from the fire.
The latest confirmed deaths brings to 20 the number of people confirmed to have died as a result of the fires, which have burned 2,125 homes in the past nine days, including two in neighbouring Mexico.

scanner is doing shift changes now. debris in roads. etc.

I'm posting what I hear on my scanners.Speaking of scanners, I broke down and picked up the dual-trunking model at Radio Shack yesterday. I've got a few thing programmed in, including the entire county system. Is there any verbal HAM talk out there concerning the fires that I might be able to pick up? I'm not very well versed with the spectrum these days.
