This is just unbelievable. It seems so hopeless. I must take a break and go pray for awhile. I saw the burned bunny too. The fireman had a fire hose on him. Thinking of Banmbi now too. Not to mention all the families whose lives will be forever changed. All because some sick bastard had a match.

Nothing going on there, but, dang, that scared me. Your wife is safe. My sis lives farther south off of MacArthur, but has a view of the area from upstairs. I made her go upstairs and check!

She has been watching the news all day today, and there was nothing about it. She asked me where I got my info, and I read it to her.

Just got an informative e-mail for those interested, high desert area:

If anyone wants to help the people who've been evacuated due to the fires, here are some numbers and places you may be able to lend a hand. Some of our CHN friends have had to evacuate.

"People" Evacuation centers in Victorville:

1. Apple Valley High School (760) 247-7206 and Hesperia High School

"Animal" Evacuation Centers in Victorville:

2. Victorville Fairgrounds (760)951-2200 @ 14800 7th Street,in Victorville is boarding large animals (24 hours a day!):

And you can Call Pearl at Apple Valley Feed Store, who is coordinating efforts: (760) 247-5523 to offer help relocating animals. You can visit the fairgrounds at Gate "E" which is always open in the livestock area.

Also, the pilots who are dropping chemicals to control the fires are flying out of Lancaster!!! They may need some help with food and refreshments. I will post any requests and directions for help as soon as I hear from the Base Manager, Clay Myers. As of 12:30pm I left a message with him.

Fire Update - from http://ci.hesperia.ca.us/

Updated: October 29, 2003 12:19 pm

Due to an unusually high number of hits, our website was down for a few minutes. We apologize. Thank you to all the businesses who donated their bandwidth so that the City of Hesperia can keep its residents continuously updated.

Residents are being directed to the City website for road closures and evacuations.
Fire is still 1/2 mile south of Ranchero with 20mph winds blowing in a NE direction.

Summit Valley Road is closed north to south.

Three task forces in Summit Valley, one at 11th and Main

Plan is to stop it at Ranchero Road by cutting lines. Heavy equipment deployed; holding the line at this time.

Trash service is suspended

Residents in Hesperia and Oak Hills, south of Ranchero must evacuate IMMEDIATELY to either Hesperia High School at 9898 Maple, or Apple Valley High School on Navajo at Bear Valley Road.

Manditory Evacuations
Southern Hesperia south of Ranchero
Oak Hills
Summit Valley, Telephone Canyon & Las Flores area
Crestline/Cedar Pines

Running Springs (use Northbound 18 and 38)
Blue Jay, Twin Peaks, Lake Arrowhead Area - Devore
Cedar Pines Park on West continuing East to Running Springs
Big Bear
All of the mountain

Voluntary Evacuations
South Hesperia - north of Ranchero, south of Mesquite, between Arrowhead Lake Road and Baldy Mesa Road.

Evacuation Sites Status
Sultana High School - 50 beds available
Hesperia High School - 9898 Maple, near Main Street - 30 beds available
Apple Valley High School, 11837 Navajo Road, Apple Valley (cross street Bear Valley Road)
Victor Valley College - Bear Valley Road and Jacaranda

There are also evacuees at Hesperia Lakes and Mojave Narrows Regional Park. These are not Red Cross shelters.

Hesperia Lake has no facilities for evacuees without RV's.

Animals are being housed at the Apple Valley Animal Shelter Horsemen's Center, 24320 Highway 18, Apple Valley - 760-240-7000 x7555) and the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville.

Over 200 animals are being sheltered at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds. The reptiles we impounded are housed at the Pet Connection in Apple Valley. PetsMart is housing the birds (with the exception of 80 birds belonging to one evacuee that PetsNFriends is housing). People should still bring animals to the fairground and we will transport as necessary. They should not take animals directly to the above facilities.

LIME STREET PARK has opened its equestrian center for people who need to evacuate livestock. Help will be available to those needing assistance transporting their livestock. The number to call is 760-244-4400.

Staff there, including Hesperia Animal Control, are prepared to take in an additional 100 dogs and cats t minimum and livestock as necessary.
