Quick before the AM gets back from the 'fridge!

My daughter is doing a re-test but I can't figure this out - its algebra in a geometry class?

Simplify each radical:

A) Sq.Rt. of 80 = 4* Sq.Rt of 5 (This is marked "correct")

B) Sq.Rt. of 700 =

C) Sq.Rt. of 75 =

D) Sq.Rt. of 48 =

I'm looking on the net and reading about pulling out multiples of perfect squares but I'm getting titrted! Any help will be appreciated by us math-deprived types!

;-)

Never mind. I thought you needed "Quick Basic" help, so I dusted off an old manual, and when my sneezing fit ended, I realized I misread it. Oops.

Best leave the titrating until the homework is done.

The answer, as always, is 42.

DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK!

Ouch. I knew someone who was titrted once. She left school in embarrassment and moved in with her grandma out of state... poor thing...

Here's what they are looking for:

Radical 700 = 100 * 7, the square root of 100 is 10 which is pulled outside the radical leaving 10 radical 7. Do the same for the other values.

Factor them and then do it.

A) Sq.Rt. of 80 = 4* Sq.Rt of 5 (This is marked "correct")

becomes Sq.Rt. of 16*4 or 4* Sq.Rt. of 5

B) Sq.Rt. of 700 =

becomes Sq.Rt. of 100*7 or 10* Sq.Rt. of 7

C) Sq.Rt. of 75 =

becomes Sq.Rt. of 25*3 or 5* Sq.Rt. of 3

D) Sq.Rt. of 48 =

becomes Sq.Rt. of 16*3 or 4* Sq.Rt. of 3

There is a reason your daughter is taking a REtest. Because she needs to LEARN it, not have you (or us) do it for her.

So long as you're not asking about putting moustraps in mailboxes, I think the thread will survive.

sqrt(700) = sqrt(100*7)= 10*sqrt(7)
sqrt(75) =sqrt(25*3) = 5*sqrt(3)
sqrt(48) = sqrt(16*3) = 4* sqrt(3)
