Whoopi's on NBC. The season premiere of 24 is on Fox.
very smokey today in Claremont and Redlands. Everyone at work is getting the cigar smoker cough and red eyes from all the smoke from Lake Arrowhead. The smoke plume off the fire is unbelievable. Reminds me of Mt. St. Helens erutption with it blocking out the sun and all the falling ash

"So the witch doesn't want loggers to make money. So it's better to have whole swaths of forrest devastated by a beetle and left standing dead and dry just waiting for a lightening strike or some terrorist (domestic or foreign variety) to cause havoc." You can't repeat this enough! We have got to educate everyone we know!

The irony is that the bro in law has been complaining about the high cost of cutting down those trees and the fierce-ness of the authorities that it be done! Lots of folks up there are retired seniors and it's been a heavy expense but the trees MUST be cut down.....no excuses!!!
There's more to the story, as Paul Harvey says:
The enviros have passed enough rules that you cannot cut down any trees on your property unless you hire a certified arborist, which can cost a minimum of $5000, and then the Forest Service and usually someone from the county has to give your actions their blessing. Before you even fire up your own chain saw, it can cost you alot of money, and even if you are willing to go thru all of this, there is absolutely NO GUARANTEE that you will get permission in the end. It can be just a rabbit hole that swallows money.
One of the latest hurdles you have to jump is that you cannot tamper with someone's "VIEW SHED". That is ANY tree, shrub, boulder, etc, that ANYONE can see from wherever they live. So, in effect, the guy who holds the property at the top of the hill/mountain/ridge controls everything he can see for as far as he can see. If you want to do something, you have to satisfy him.
If my dad were still alive, he would say" The inmates are in charge of the asylym". He would be right.

- CHP ALLOWING RESIDENTS THAT LIVE N/OF POE PKWY TO ACCESS RESIDENCE// RESIDENTS THAT LIVE S/OF POE PKWY CANNOT ACCESS YET--AT STEVENSON RANCH FIRE
A good reason to carry a copy of your Property Tax bill in your glove compartment as "proof of residence", if the home you're trying to access is a vacation home (or if you've moved recently and don't have a drivers license with the address).
We started doing that, since we had two homes at the time, after the Northridge quake....didn't want to get 'outed' by the residents-only thing.

I'm sorry to hear that, dubya.....very sorry.

Whether he gets in trouble will depend on whether his superiors wanted him to be out there that close to the fire The truck's insured, and he got national coverage plus a picture of the station's logo on every other station in town. They'll probably give him a flippin' trophy.

An Alfred Hitchcock short story dealt with an arsonist - young guy who set "thrill" fires. You know the type. Set fire, retreat, watch fire department respond.
Well, the happy firebug graduated from burning barns to torching homes. Second one he got was occupied; they didn't get out.
He was caught and put in jail, and high bail was set. To the judge's surprise, the townspeople showed up en masse to pay the bail up front. So they released the arsonist.
Another fire soon started, this time in an oak-studded field. Fire department responded to find a gruesome scene.
There was a charred body chained to a scorched oak tree.
