Of course it always helps to read the article first.
That takes all the fun out of a flaming.

"Wal-Mart executives knew that their contracted cleaning companies may have been hiring illegal immigrants for years."
Well, how can you disprove this claim? Of course I know that it may rain tomorrow. Or I know when I sign a marriage contract that it may end in divorce. Anyone with half a brain can defend that "may" statement. However, a contract is signed, the contract is legal only if both parties plan to obey the law, therefore it is reasonable to assume that Walmart expected the contractor to obey the law.

If it is found that the parent company of the contract company is Walmart, then I agree, they are blatantly breaking the law and should be held accountable. Whatever company is the parent company should pay the appropriate penalties. True story...in Arizona, Wal-Mart stores received their snack bar supplies and foodstuffs from McLane's, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart. AZ Wal-Mart snack bar managers (Mrs. HJ) attending a Corporate Leadership Seminar in Phoenix began to complain about the service they received from McLane's, i.e., late deliveries, missed deliveries, deliveries of expired foodstuffs, overcharges on invoices, etc.
The seminar leader responded that Wal-Mart couldn't really affect the practices of McLane's. When reminded that Wal-Mart owned McLane's, the leader back-pedalled and agreed that maybe Wal-Mart Corporate did have some influence with their wholly-owned subsidiary and maybe they could fix some of the problems.
Within a month, they were fixed.
300 illegals at $10k per violation is a $3 million charge. If you suspect Wal-Mart is complicit in this, watch their earnings statements for the next 2 quarters.

The CONTRACTOR word just isn't sinking in with a lot of posters is it!!! >>>>>>>
"Some Wal-Mart executives are expected to be slapped with grand jury subpoenas as part of this investigation, sources said. Investigators are looking into whether Wal-Mart executives knew that their contracted cleaning companies may have been hiring illegal immigrants for years."

What? The private citizens are directly hiring the illegal aliens, not hiring a contract company to do the landscaping. This is the same how?

However, a contract is signed, the contract is legal only if both parties plan to obey the law, therefore it is reasonable to assume that Walmart expected the contractor to obey the law.Well, of course, it just comes down to knowledge, doesn't it? That's true of most crimes. In order to avoid getting too deeply involved in the theory of criminal conspiracy or RICO laws, I guess it's easiest to just suggest a rule of thumb - a person can't ordinarily evade criminal sanctions by retaining an "independent contractor" to commit crimes on his behalf.

Federal lawyer: So what color was the skin of the employees cleaning your floors?
Walmart Executive: Brown.
Fed. Lawyer: So wouldn't that imply that these companies "may" have been hiring illegal aliens?
Walmart Exec.: I guess!
Fed: Here's your fine, welcome to the fed pen!

" Suppose the contract company is in effect a shell corporation set up by the client company in order to insulate itself from these liabilities? Suppose company memos are found that establish this?" That's what I'm thinking. There's more to this story and I hope it all comes out.

Lets see, the cleaning crews that can't speak a word of English and have been wandering the isles of WalMart for years, but the Wal Mart high rollers didn't suspect a thing, and were very happy with the low cost of these services.....

D*mn these people wanting to work! No punishment is too harsh.Right. No punishment for illegal aliens who violate law after law after law. Should Americans have this same right to violate law after law after law without being punished just like the illegal aliens?

Yep, those cleaning crews that show up in the middle of the night and are gone long before opening, must be interacting a lot with the Walmart Executives!

But does Wal-Mart become liable if they hire a cleaning crew that hires illegals? I sure hope not...
If it does then you and I are liable if we hire a roofing company to re-roof our home, and they are using illegal aliens as roofers.
