Brain-damaged woman moved from hospice to hospital

(Tallahassee, Florida-AP) -- A brain-damaged woman at the center of a bitter right-to-die controversy has been moved from a hospice to a hospital.

Terry Schiavo (SHY'-voh) has been without food or water for six days. She's to be given fluids at the hospital before again being fed through a tube.

Florida Governor Jeb Bush ordered that the feeding tube be reinserted. He acted after the Legislature rushed through a law giving him that authority.

The bill was designed to save the life of Schiavo, whose parents have fought for several years to keep her alive. Her husband, Michael Schiavo, says she would rather die.

Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was removed by court order at her husband's insistence last Wednesday. Doctors said the 39-year-old woman would die within a week to ten days without food and water.

Court-appointed doctors have described Schiavo as being in a vegetative state, caused when her heart stopped in 1990 from a suspected chemical imbalance.

As long as Michael is still her guardian, Greer is still the judge and Felos still wants to write his book, this is a temporary stay of execution at best. Terri will STILL not be fed or given water by mouth, nor will she receive therapy as long as Michael/Greer/Felos insists she be deprived of it.

In fact, she probably still can't sit in a wheelchair because Michael ordered her not to be allowed to sit in a wheelchair, nor will she be allowed to receive flowers or cards to give her pretty things to look at.

What role does a GAL play in this picture? Who appoints them? Can they overule her regular guardian?

This is a very short time frame to get a lot of bad things corrected.

May good fortune to Terri follow the Governor's and Legislator's intervention.

Now for a follow-up

Did Michael Schiavo commit fraud when he promised to spend the $1,300,000 jury award on Terri's rehabilitation? Is Michael Schiavo's lawyer an accessory? Did the police and District Attorney neglect evidence that indicated foul play? Did Judge Greer fail to deliver justice to Terri?

Something smells here. I hope that Bush and the Legislators begin to reel in the lawyers and judges. We need an open inquiry to shed light on the seamy side of the justice system. If they don't, warlords and feudalism will begin to look as a better alternative to the masses. It’s happened before.

Bush is now in for a penny, and you know what they say, in for a penny, in for a pound. Hopefully this will lead to the revelation and any and all malfeasance, misfeasance, malpractrice, fraud, deceit and deception involved. The corruption is already plain to see.

Hallelujah!!

This is the best news I've heard in ages!

I now have a spark of hope that maybe this country can turn around. Now they ought to thoroughly investigate this creep of a husband. Something stinks to high heaven here.

There are a lot more people here than just the creepy husband that needs to be looked into.

Why don't they just give custody to the parents? Whoever heard of custody not being taken away from someone who wants their ward to die?

This just has my head shaking. Denying food and water is just not the same as denying extraordinary measures to save someone. This "husband" is coming across as one sick puppy. Terri seems to have an extraordinary will to live. How does he know what she wants after all of those years of being non-communicative?

Do the Legislators all know how foolish they looked pondering whether it was the right thing to allow her to have food and water? Thank God they finally came to their senses.

My understanding is that today's legislation will allow for the appointment of a guardian ad litum and that Greer will NOT be the one making the appointment.

Hospice is a beautiful place. Both my father and mother-in-law died there. They were both terminally ill. I dont understand how she was admitted there in the first place. Please don't blame the nurses when they receive orders from higher ups. People go there to die--not to live. Here in Akron OH they must have a living will and DNR to be admitted. The same is true in Fort Myers FL, where my father was. Something smells of foul play on the part of the three jerks.
