10-21-03 - New York Times article on "The Reagans"
Here are some quotes from today's New York Times from the stars of the film, James Brolin and Judy Davis:
With the climate that has been in America since Sept. 11, it appears, from the outside anyway, to not be quite as open a society as it used to be," Ms. Davis said during an interview at her hotel in Montreal. "By open, I mean as free in terms of a critical atmosphere, and that sort of ugly specter of patriotism." (Editor's note - 'That ugly specter of patriotism?' Wow, guess we know where she is coming from.)
She added, "If this film can help create a bit more questioning in the public about the direction America has been going in since the 1970's, I guess then I think it will be doing a service."
Mr. Brolin said he, too, hoped that the film would prompt Americans to be more suspect of their leaders. "We're in such a pickle right now in our nation," he said, "that maybe if learn something from this."
It's time to stand up America, and let these people know that it's not "ugly" to be a patriotic American and we can and will refuse to watch their liberal propaganda disguised as an historical portrait.
If you are as angry as we are, we have written a sample letter that you can send to the president and CEO of CBS Television, Leslie Moonves. Click here to see the letter and to download a PDF copy for faxing or emailing. If you email it to CBS, don't send an attachment. Copy the text in the body of your email. Most companies won't open attachments anymore.

The writer of the show admits she made it up:
That Reagan made any such statement is a flat-out lie, an invention of the script writer, one Elizabeth Egloff, who admitted to the New York Times, which obtained a copy of the script, that there was no evidence that any such conversation ever took place. She claimed that "we know he ducked the issue over and over again, and we know she was the one who got him to deal with it."

Mr. Brolin said he, too, hoped that the film would prompt Americans to be more suspect of their leaders. And what better person to use as an example: Ronald Reagan..*snort*
Why not Clinton?
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE BIAS BEHIND THE NETWORKS.

"This is not a vendetta, this is not revenge. It is about telling a good story in our honest sort of way. We all believe it's a story that should be told." How about telling an honest story in a good sort of way? How about telling a story that can be believed? Backward priorities.

I see nothing to be gained by writing to the Communist Broadcasting System. Do we yet know who the likely sponsors of this hatchet job might be? They are the ones that need to be contacted.

What do we expect from Barbra Streisand's paramour??? Activist Hollywackos will never stop revising history and the truth .... and they'll never stop trying to take down one of American's most beloved Presidents of all time, Ronaldus Maximus Reagan, and his life with lies and distortions. I believe the venom and blatant bias of these people will create a backlash. This film should be accompanied by rightful disclosure statements about conflicts of interest of the parties involved.
Reagan, in his letters, speeches and deeds stands as the beacon of hope and optimism he's always been, and an enduring symbol of America's best. We will never forget him. God Bless Ronald Reagan.

The New York Times: Mr. Morris, Mr. Reagan's biographer, said he had some misgivings about the mini-series, given the political leanings of the producers and actors. "The provenance of the movie makes me suspect it will not be fair," he said. But he added that it could also work as a reality check on Mr. Reagan's record.
"The best thing one can say about a movie of this kind," he said, "is it does redress or counteract the sentimentalities that are being perpetrated all of the time in his name by his fanatical followers."
"Sentimentalities...perpetrated...by...fanatical followers"
At the time Morris' book was published I said that Nancy Reagan's most disloyal act was letting that fop anywhere near her husband. For those who don't know she is responsible for getting him the job as official biographer. It was his snob appeal that convinced her to hire him (he had been lauded in academia for his Roosevelt book), and one of Nancy's great weaknesses is that she is a snob.
Morris was ALL WRONG for Reagan but she pushed for him, and Ronnie paid a steep price fot it. Morris produced an AWFUL book and now he's cited as the resident expert whenever the subject of Reagan comes up in the mainstream media, allowing him to get his digs in to his heart's delight.

"more suspect of their leaders"
Oh really ..?? But when we were suspect of CLINTON they seemed to think we were overstepping our bounds.
CBS and it's advertisers are going to pay a very high price for this hatchet job on Reagan.
I know why they're doing this - it's to counter the 3 books which have been released this year which show Reagan in a favorable light.

"The Reagans" according to Barbra Streisand and her friends. I know I will not watch this piece of drivel.
I don't think I'll watch CBS at all anymore.

From what I have heard and read about this movie; I would say it is not about the Reagans.
And I will not be watching.
To: lisaann8
I just want to add that anyone who cares enough about this VILE hatchet job on Reagan to write CBS, would be much wiser to send snail mail. The networks pay much more attention to a hand written letter. They always figure that for every snail mail letter they get there are about 100 other people who feel the same but didn't write.
I have a friend who interned for an ABC show one year and that is how the networks think.

The best way to protest this movie is to not watch it.
The more attention it recieves, the more people will be inclined to watch it.
