The catch is that she's not actually in a persistent vegetative state.

Thankfully, this is not a catch. You see, the court has established that she is, so in effect the courts have established that she indeed meets the requirements of the law.

If they now claim she is not in a vegetative state, then of course they eliminate the justifications for their previous rulings allowing the feeding tube to be removed---and the feeding tube goes back in.

Either way, this bill works for Terri Schiavo, unless some Federal judge intervenes.

The Florida House scheduled a Monday night session to take up the issue. In the Senate, President Jim King said he will propose legislation that would give Gov. Jeb Bush the authority to order the feeding tube be reinserted to keep Terri Schiavo alive.

The tube was removed Wednesday following a decade-long court battle between Schiavo's parents and their son-in-law, who contends that he is carrying out her wishes not to be kept alive artificially.

"If we are to err - because time is of the essence - for goodness sake let us err on the side of caution," said King, a Republican.

This the Senate President that doesn't want a special session to prevent her from starving.

This was on another thread! Let's give him credit.!!

"I don't believe that the Legislature has the authority to interfere," Felos said.

Your client doesn't have the right to take a life. Ahole.

What really turn my stomach was the fact they wouldn't let her have communion. They were afriad that she might be capable of eating solid food.

Yes. This whole story is incredibly tragic and the behavior of her "husband" has been beyond despicable, if not criminal. The judge will go to hell.

unless some Federal judge intervenes.

I don't see how that could possibly happen. Federal courts have already refused to hear the appeals.

For all those who haven't emailed the Florida senators yet, there's a link on this post (#112) email all senators that you can use.

It will only take you a minute to send the entire senate an email expressing your views.

Brain scan not needed. She is not on a ventilator, ergo brain activity. She does not have brain stem malfunction (which would be the cause of no brain activity), she has anoxic encephalopathy which caused her aphasia, paralysis, etc.

That devil, Felos, wil shop it to a judge who will declare it unconstitutional before the ink is dry. I am also concerned that those at the hospice, knowing this is coming, might up the morphine dosage...really up the morphine dosage. After all they can't let Terri suffer.. I believe they are capable of anything.

Sen. Chubby says "let her starve... more chicken over here"

Here is what was on a thread about him. He seems to be supportive here.....hmmmmmmmmm

The bill would give the state's governor 15 days to order a feeding tube to be reinserted in cases like Terri Schiavo's.

What does the "15 days" part mean? Does this mean that this bill is a reprieve that expires in 15 days, that it only applies to cases the governor exercises in the next 15 days, or something else?

Terri must be in pretty rough shape by know. Earlier today a doctor was quoted as saying she had "begun the process of dying".

She's going to need more than just resumption of the g-tube. She'll need medical attention. THe bill doesn't address that. Sciavo can forbid any medical treatment. He's still the guardian. Hospice doesn't provide medical traetment to prolong life.

Rather than credit, maybe King knows that a lot of FReeper research made its way to Florida today ~ maybe something to do with James King being a member of the Florida Hospice Board of Directors ~ and George Felos, esteemed attorney for Michael Schiavo, and ex-member of the Florida Hospice Board of Directors. One Director man works to have the woman die; the second Director man presents a Bill that would have the woman live ~ his status as a Hospice Board Member might look like a conflict of something ..

Hallelujah!
